What is love

Recommended Posts

I was wondering about the word ai 愛 in Daoism. I have seeing the word in some chapters of the DDJ and translated as "love". What is love? What is love in Daoism? Is the word ai in Chinese equates the same as in English ( I don't say western languages as the cultural connotations are different). I have also read that compassion in Chinese has love content just as benevolence. Just wondering and picking brains here and there.

Thanks and Happy Friday!!

Hi Mig,

I haven't read the DDJ yet. So this is only my guess.

Taoist love blossoms when yin and yang meet.

Then everything stops as hearts so wildly beat.

As Two become One - wu-wei shines The Way.

And sun & moon - don't know if it's night or day.

Yes/no?

Thanks LimA,

Nice input and I wonder if yin and yang meet as I think we are half of a man and half of woman and vice-versa for women. If 2 becomes one then how can act without attachment wu wei will work?

Oh, the harmony of the merging of yin and yang, woman and man.

No, I have never thought I was the woman.  But there have been times where it was best for me to be yin and allow the woman to be yang.

Hi Mig,

Yes I too believe that each of yin and yang is (.5 woman + .5 man); so -

Yin +  Yang = (.5 woman + .5 man) + (.5 woman + .5 man) = Woman + Man.

I will try and answer your question without being too explicit. We will continue from the above ...

Woman + Man  = brotherhoodss01_30.jpg  = 253px-Yin_yang.svg.png   = One

Meaning of symbols:

Genesis 2:24

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

Mark 10:8

AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.

Act - can without attachment?

But of course. Why?

Woman => <= Man = one flesh.

No attachment to each other. Yes/no?

Wu wei will work?

Definitely. Why?

Jing => chi => shen.

Wu wei sublimes and climaxes in the shen realm. Yes/no?

Please don't ask me anymore questions. Why?

 DaodeTianzun.jpg  will come after me.

Interesting how common sounds often mean similar things in different languages.  Take ai or aye.  In many cultures it means yes, and Yes, is not a bad connotation for love.  Like Ohmnn, Aii tend to be a central connection sounds.  In some kotodama (sacred sound) systems moves from heart (Aahh) to throat/truth (Eeei).  It's one of those things you feel personally, see where Aaiiee vibrates as you say it slowly.

Getting away from Daoism, I was taught that love is positive feelings and emotions to a person (or even an object).  It's a little more clinical, but the more you connect a person to something positive, the more you love them.

I love my wife, because I connect her to many pleasurable things and support.

I love pizza because its salty, fatty.. crispy too.

Most of all I love when my wife brings me pizza.  :)

I love pizza too.  I can't say anything about your wife because you might think something is going on.

Good morning Dada-da,

Why 'Oh' only? Shouldn't it be 'Oh yes' at least. There is some element of ignorance/surprise in your 'Oh'.

It is said that you are only 50% woman. If you want to be 100% woman, dream on and be The Statue of Liberty (also 100% concrete).

No, I don't get that emotional.  "Oh" is fine for me.

My Statue of Liberty is copper.  But no, I don't think I ever said I wanted to be a woman.  But I am sure I have said somewhere that I used to enjoy being united with a woman.

Oh copper - so you are disqualified.

"But there have been times where it was best for me to be yin" - so yin is not associated with womanhood. Then yin = what?

"Used" - noted; no question asked.

It is OK to be wordless at times.

Can we go for a date? Yes. Beginning of love.

Can I kiss you? Yes. Love in progress.

Can we make love? YES. Love sweet LOVE.

YES = LOVE?

Embracing Tao, you become embraced.
Supple, breathing gently, you become reborn.
Clearing your vision, you become clear.
Nurturing your beloved, you become impartial.
Opening your heart, you become accepted.
Accepting the World, you embrace Tao.
Bearing and nurturing,
Creating but not owning,
Giving without demanding,
Controlling without authority,
This is love.”

Taoist do not consider love as an emotion. Yin and Yang is not gender specific  it is an energetic not limited to a form being formless.

Internal alchemy is that yin and yang love each other but have not formally met. A go between is necessary to introduce yin and yang to each other. when this happens a new life is born, birth of the higher self is then possible.

Exactly the go between is pizza. This uniting force can be felt as soon as pizza just touches the lips not to mention what happens after penetration of the body. The sweet dew develops and breaks down the pizza turning it into energy that blows rocket fuel away.

I like to pick pizza up and feel the warm juiciness in my hands. I do not understand using utensils to eat pizza but I know spooning leads to forking so please use condiments if you happen to use this method of eating pizza.

I am just playing and writing in code. The endless interactions of yin and yang. Freud takes my words and came up with his own theory.
