Hello from a new user

Recommended Posts

I recently retired, and my practice had long since been rendered nearly nonexistent by increasing job responsibilities, erratic hours, and being a part time caregiver to a 90+ year old parent.

The personal problems and caregiver responsibilities are still a reality, but now I have a little time to restart my practice. I came across your site looking for some info, and would like to dive into it.

Hello F1nlaysOn, and welcome.

Your membership is approved and we're happy you found your way to us. We look forward to accompanying you on some of the way that you still have to go.

Please take the time to read the two posts pinned at the top of this Welcome page and take a look at the forum terms and rules. This covers all you need to know when getting started.

For the first week you will be restricted to ten posts per day but after that you can post as much as you like. Also, until you’ve posted fifteen times in the forums, you’ll be a “Junior Bum” with somewhat restricted access and will be allowed only two private messages per day.

Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you,

Marblehead and the TDB team

Hi F1nlaysOn,

Congrats on your retirement.  But life still goes on, doesn't it?  That includes our responsibilities to others.

You are welcome to jump right in ongoing discussions, revive an older thread, start a new thread of your own, or start a discussion in the "Newcomer Corner" sub-forms to expand on your introduction or ask general questions to help you get started.

May you enjoy your time here.

Marblehead

Welcome to the Bums!  :)

What practice are you doing?

8 Brocades. Yang style short form. Also learned a little Cheng style at a park district class. Have started experimenting a little with Tai Chi Ruler also.

Tai Chi Ruler is one of my favorites, the one I did the longest.

Any particular style of TCR you like best?

Nothing is easier then guided meditations.  There are deeply relaxing, trippy, spiritual, revitalizing, taoist, shamanic ones.  They don't take up much time because they can be listened when you first wake up or before bed.  They're accessible to anyone with ears.  If you can't do yoga, you can do yoga nidra, an ancient style of guided meditation.  <caveat they're a wonderful tool but ultimately not a substitute for silent meditation>

You can find 100's of them on youtube, look up 'guided meditation' or 'self hypnosis'.    If you get an add on that allows you to turn youtubes into mp3's you can put them onto anything that plays mp3's like ipods or even many modern CD players.  Or just google the terms to find sites that have a number of free ones.

Here's are some resources:
