Hello from an(other) amateur!

Recommended Posts

Hi all:

I’ve joined because I’m just starting to get into a proper amateur study of Daoism. I am coming from a perspective of Buddhist study of many years, where lately I’ve been following a thread from Japanese Rinzai Zen to Chan. Looking at some of the foundational material in Chan I find myself very drawn to Daoism, both historically and philosophically/spiritually. Those parts of Chan/Zen Buddhism that I most like may in fact be their strong Daoist component, and so Daoism what might be what I am actually most interested in studying.

From a practical standpoint I’ve been trying to maintain a Taichi practice for a few years, which has been hit-or-miss.

I have a whole lot to learn and I’m eager to dive in.

Hello cucumberice, and welcome.

Your membership is approved and we're happy you found your way to us. We look forward to accompanying you on some of the way that you still have to go.

Please take the time to read the two posts pinned at the top of this Welcome page and take a look at the forum terms and rules. This covers all you need to know when getting started.

For the first week you will be restricted to ten posts per day but after that you can post as much as you like. Also, until you’ve posted fifteen times in the forums, you’ll be a “Junior Bum” with somewhat restricted access and will be allowed only two private messages per day.

Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you,

Marblehead and the TDB team

Hi cucumberice,

Good timing.  We just started a casual study of the TTC and just finishing up Chapter 2.

You are welcome to jump right in ongoing discussions, revive an older thread, start a new thread of your own, or start a discussion in the "Newcomer Corner" sub-forms to expand on your introduction or ask general questions to help you get started.

May you enjoy your time here.

Marblehead

Welcome to the bums :)

Here is the causal study/discussion of the Tao Ye Ching that MH mentioned. It will be a great start in getting your feet wet. We are all amateurs just bouncing insight and ideas around, so do join in. :)

Not me.

I'm an amateur dispensing unjustified speculation with deplorable table manners.
