What online shop do you know for natural, handmade, warm monk-like robes?

Recommended Posts

Dear community,

I am looking for an online shop, best one you yourself have experience with the clothing they sell - maybe you wear them yourself - handmade, warm robes that have the aestetics of those of buddhist robes, for example. It is important that they use only natural materials, no chemicals.

I would be really interested to support, for example a monastery, who produces these kind of garments. Unfortunatelly, here where I live, nothing like this is available. So I am happy to pay the worldwide shipping costs.

Me myself, I wear old and worn-out 1st world brand clothes that I find extremely uncomfortable and also do no longer feel the need to have any type of slogan on my body.

Feel free to leave any recommendations here as a reply or PM me.

Thank you

I know of no such shops, but relate to what you're wanting. Here's a couple of articles that you might find interesting.....

Post a photo of the kind that you want. There are many things that monks wear classified as robe.

I have many example I could show you, simply the latest example I have infront of my eyes would be

12088566_968437593221533_104676580697879

a good friend, Lama Somananda Tantrapa displaying Qigong. Thick and warm, natural viber, no itching, can also be longer down to the feet, specifically with Asian aesthetics for I have pleasant experience of how the design of these very clothes (layout and cut) actually promote our natural energy flow. Contrary to wearing jeans and what not.

It can be very similar. Does this help?

Thank you also @Yueya - I am basicly standing infront of a decision to wether continuing to buy clothing or actually make them myself.

If you're looking for taiji/qigong type clothing you could check here - http://store.rawganique.com/organic-linen-kung-fu-collar-shirt-p/rg5440-of.htm. They have lots of other styles as well.

For more traditional (Tibetan) Buddhist clothing tibetanspirit.com is a good source but I don't know anything about their material or manufacturing. Also, lots of monk clothing available through Etsy.

I'd suggest you search online for raw cotton and hemp sources - lots of such vendors for clothing although mostly more modern clothing styles are available.

Also really nice - thank you.

I have contacted the individuals from the shop found on amazon which seem to be really direct in what they do and offer

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B004W2PN0O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1LJMJWHHGKRRG

Bought one.

I have also purchased a top and a bottom piece of what ymaa.com offers

http://ymaa.com/publishing/uniform/silk/jacket

I already feel they will be of kind of equal value

I will post a feedback in case anyone feels s/he is in a similar need of dressing the body appropriately and that specifically this fits into just that cathegory

Nice outfits.  If your looking for more still, of the monk variety, it might be wise to check that dressing as a monk is not insulting to adherents of the tradition who's robes you have borrowed.

Some cultures have strict taboo's about emulating monks, and while you probably won't get dim-maked by a monk, you may get an earful from irate students.

Yes.

The master appears when the student is ready.

The student knows himself to be the master at one point.

The student no longer wants there to be any school rather for anyone to find his own master within, for he has understood what is truly going on here.

Same with any sort of clothing. One knows that one only feels comfortable in any kind of dress, when ones inner reflects the outer. And then there is simply the decision of not walking around naked. Not because one would not want it, surely it would feel great, but to take a humble step back to not instill more fears into other individuals, then the light of ones own cleared experiences naturally already does to them.

Really high quality stuff. For the last four+ years I've lived in unheated and barely-heated huts in old Shanghai and Beijing alleyways. Last year I finally bought a huge hooded cloak/cape from this company, specifically made big enough to cover your legs if you're sitting cross-legged. Very happy with it. Found out about them a few years back when someone gave me a frog-buttoned vest from this company, also very high quality. Also bought some thin cotton pants for working out in the summer--good stitching but the colors faded way too quickly. Other brands on Taobao I can't vouch for... there's a lot of junk here, too.
