Taoism and jung: synchrnicity and the self. By harold coward

Carl jung failed to understand the Taoist concept of empty mind and replaced it with the concept of self.in jung self everything unite, in Taoist void mind all concept vanish. Jung didn't understand the Taoist concept of shen ,(parallel to Hindu Atman) that is connection between the man and universe ,and shen is causing synchronization.

I think that's because he sees the mind or the consciousness to incorporate all aspects of the repressed mind.  Clinically, that's how you deal with issues.  To bring them to the surface and to make them to become a part of your personality, your overall conscious thoughts.

And the next step is to realize that all suffering, your past issues, are or were impermanent.  Therefore, they aren't or were not real to begin with.  If they weren't real, the defense mechanism of your ego developed to deal with them isn't or wasn't real to begin with.  Thereby, your ego would dissolve completely.  For an example...because of certain injustice you felt as a child, you developed this idea that you want to make a difference in this world by becoming a social activist in some forms or others (lawyers, social workers, nurses, and etc).  Then, you come to the conclusion that your pain and suffering were never real to begin with (maybe because they don't affect you the same way and etc).  Then, there are no reasons for your ego's defense mechanism to exist at all.  There, your ego has just been dissolved.

Once your ego is gone because its existence is no longer justifiable, that's when the Tao would emerge.  Or begin to emerge.... That's when the real spiritual work or spiritual cultivation begins.

in wiki on atman "realize that one's true self (Ātman) is identical with the transcendent self Brahman." or in Taoism the shen is identical with tao , or in west terms , the divine soul is identical with god. this is the cause of synchronicity.

Funnily, the union of everything in the mind and the vanishing of all concepts (void) are equivalent to each other. In the most simple terms: (+1) + (-1) = 0.

I'm not sure wether or not Atman is identical with Brahman or a subjective part of it, but i feel the paralell of Shen being Tao and divine soul identical to god are inaccurate. Tao encompasses everything so it also encompasses Shen but they are not the same. Divine soul has a spark of gods breath but it is not god because god is separate from his creations, even though its said he created humanity in his own image he did not recreate himself in us, only a similarity. Now i dont follow that teaching any more but i remember priests and books being adamant on that subject.

In my pigheaded opinion it's more dangerous than not to equate spiritual concepts within different traditions on the basis that they are spoken of in similar terms. Language can be a bridge and a trapdoor. The Tao might be absolute and is everywhere, that does not make it synonymous for The Absolute, wich is abstract and descriptive. The Tao is the Tao, comparison might help frame the set for initial understanding, but LZ said even giving it a name is misrepresenting it somehow. So it's not relatable to other apparently similar things. Tao is not a state of mind (or a state of post-mind), mind is perhaps in a state of relative vicinity/distance from Tao? I know that makes little sense but i think thats how i interpret it lately.

if that was the case, the synchronicity would be happening constantly. which it does not. or, in other words - before debunking Jung, pls think a little.

when shen stage is reached , shen is one with tao, tao is one with universe , so shen is synchronty with universe .

synchronicity is happening constantly to those who are in shen stage, or atman stage.

A normal mind can not perceive a chain of non-causal events.  If the mind can't perceive them, it won't matter if the events are unfolding or not.  A mind with the wu wei wu, it can perceive and even to influence these events in order to produce an intended outcome.

Also normal ppl have their moments when shen or atman are active

Maybe in their dreams.  Appearance of numbers in your dream states and in your real life are very common.

FYI, a normal mind trying to draw causal connections to a chain of non-causal events is called superstitions....LOL  You do wonder why traditional Chinese culture practiced by commoners is so superstitious.....:)  A base mind, a prejudice mind can not know synchronicity.  Is impossible.  The mind isn't with the Tao and isn't with wu wei wu.  It can not know things objectively.

the Taoist concept of shen ,(parallel to Hindu Atman).....in Taoism the shen is identical with tao , or in west terms , the divine soul is identical with god

What you are saying is that a Atman (an absolute) for no reason flips from active to passive. That quality would make it not an Absolute. While you are correct in your hunch

that there is a connection between the man and universe

its not shen. the shen ironically is the disconnector. the texts say so. the texts also explicitly id the connection.
