@freeform You mentioned that you've heard mixed things about Serge Augier's system, would you be able to elaborate?.

I am interested in his online school but it's a bit pricey, Is it worth it?

The post you are quoting is about three years old, and according to Freeform's profile, they visited TDB the last time about two months ago, so I it may be better you PM them with your question.

To answer to the OP's question:

1. Bagua. Tai Chi doesn't connect well with the internal organs ---> It misses completely the I Ching and TCM principles derived from the Huangdi Neijing. Complete healing and full opening cannot occur as a result.

Scientifically speaking: What you are saying here is equivalent to waste matter discharged from the body of an adult male of the species Bos taurus.

Interesting thread,  while I have some familiarity with bagua practitioners its not something I've practiced, worked with directly.

Looking at the image posted what would be your interpretation of it as it relates to foot work or stepping.

looking for some gen thoughts to confirm my own...

thanks

david

What a fantastic image, thanks for sharing windwalker. I won't offer to interpret, I am just kindergarten level, not even that, with this stuff. I will be looking at this for awhile. It does show that one can "walk the circle" by taking straight line steps that touch tangent points around the circle. Got any more images like this one?

Changes deep within due to the intrinsic curvature, twisting motion and CONSTANT CHANGE of the art + the constant spiralling, which goes deep within the practitioner unlocking the 'gate' and finding about what you truly are.

What is this gate?

As told by both Taoist and Buddhist teachers (Edward Kooij and Thanat Chindaporn from Ajahn Thong's tradition) ---> find out for yourself. Thanat asked me prior to the start of a 3-week Vipassana retreat I attended in 2008 about the Mind's location. It took me nearly 10 years to find out and when I did, it was hard to digest; this only shows how much our physicality and the monkey mind blinds us from this and other inner truths, laws, realities, etc.

What at we really are ---> your own practice is the best way to know.

My Bagua teacher, Geoff Sweeting, learnt Xingyi from his uncle: Roy Jenzen and Bagua from Wang Tong (Li Zi Ming line, Peking, China). My online Bagua teacher, He Jinghan (Taipei, Taiwan), is also very practical. Do your homework with diligence and you'll be rewarded.

Both Geoff and Roy are qualified and experienced Chinese Medicine practitioners.

Practice both arts for a considerable amount of time, for at least 3 or 4 years, so you can get the facts right.

@windwalker this might sound like crazy talk but to me it looks contraddictory, i cant really tell though. Something is off in the connectors, either directions have been jumbled or a deception is used to make the meaning difficult to interpret for the uninitiated.

Theres the obvious stuff such as pre and post heaven, their outer and inner placement, heaven and earth and all that.

Cutting through it a little gives me the feeling that it looks like a charting of stratagems, i think there are maybe three overlapped famous symbolic devices forming a more detailed or unified illustration of a specific system or theory of steps, tactics and the heavenly principles on which they are based.

That is of course a general speculation on my part, and anything i recognize here could be merely circumstantial and very wrong, utterly academical in any case.

Regarding the OP question:

count me as one of those saying ”depends on the teacher and the student, both arts could take you to the stars or to the gutter depending on the first two factors.”

Hello,

Bagua that feels like a modern version of Tai Chi (soft), but how about the soles of the shoes & size and leg strength? Why only the Millstone Pushing Palm.

"Ma Gui advocated a rigorous approach to training with a heavy emphasis on developing extraordinary lower leg strength."

"...the majority of Ma Gui's leg training was not done through walking at such an extremely low level, but rather was cultivated by countless hours of his system's *"bear walking:" slow concentrated circle-walking in a horse stance that dramatically transforms the large tendon lines from neck to feet and strengthens the entire body."

*Aka Downward Sinking Palm

And the rest...well find out for yourself, what you really are and the opening and clearing that takes place. ENDLESS. Like reality itself -------> INFINITE.

Take care :)

1. Everything is Yin & Yang

2. Mind creates Reality

Shouldnt these two principles be our daily mantra. ;)

This is what practice is all about, and life itself.

Yes, our mind creates how we interact with reality.  Reality is what it is with or without us.

Reality ---> Empty.

How can someone interact with something that has neither form nor substance.

But hey let's find that out through intensive practice because talking about it only leads to personal views (subjective) rather than personal realisation (objective).

You'll be surprised with your findings. :)

No, I'm not going through this again right now.

I remain a Materialist.
