Tips for conservation of jing

Recommended Posts

So what are the best tips you are aware of for maintaining celibacy as per its use in internal alchemy? What are some essential "do's" and "don't" and how can one, particularly a young adult man, be successful in this endeavor? Have any of you personally attempted the process of seminal retention or just general celibacy and if so what were your own experiences or insights? Aware of any good reading material on the topic? Do share anything.

follow nature,

"the highest good is water, it stays with all things and never fights."

sexual abstiance is only required for monks, hermits and men who haven't yet found viagra.

consider that you are probably grasping at some obscure goal like total enlightenment.

That goal is impallpable to the person who chases after it by adopting extreme methods to acieve it.

the physiology of a twenty odd year old male is a wonderful thing, and you should enjoy your body while you are young.

either that, or go join a real religious order and have them teach you how to cultivate abstinance.

Daoism certainly has very seroius practices for this type of thing, but you might need someone to teach you in person - or at least find a very good online course from a respected teacher.

What book is this clip from? It looks worth reading.

That is an understatement : )

It's called The Inner Teachings of Taoism by Zhang Boduan.

While you're on that wavelength, also grab the Wuzhen Pian.

Stand up. Don't move.

Second time I read this from you today so I tried it. It was pretty nice.

My body was swaying slightly to each side and move as I breathe. Should my feet be together or apart?

ahhh... nice :-)

Well, try this for fun:

Stand up any old way

Start jumping up and down

Kick your legs out to the sides, and back and forth spontaneously

Swing your arms around (don't go beserk, but don't be overly reserved, either. Try to have a little fun)

Move freely and energetically for a minute or two

And then jump up in the air and just STOP when you land, and freeze that position whatever it is

Settle into that position, making only slight adjustemts that make it easier and perhaps feel a litlte more 'natural', but really minimal adjustments.

Don't move for three solid minutes. Don't move anything.

That's a very effective and fun way to begin standing (Zhan Zhuang) practice.

Do that a couple times a day till you can get up to ten solid minutes relatively easily (by this time, you can also shorten the vigorous jumping opening exercise accordngly, to whatever feels right, even if it's just a couple seconds). Then start looking into more concrete, traditional approaches.

(At the end of each session, pat the body down, from head to foot, and lay your hands comfortably atop one another on your lower belly for a good half minute at least)

Feels pretty good. Thanks!

when you first start out, it's really better to allow your own body to set the form. I actually suggest not reading any books, or taking any concrete advice on form, or asking experts about this stuff for a while. And if someone brings up Horse Stance, smile politely and nod, then just do your own thing.
