Is there Clear information what Element is associated with what Finger?

Recommended Posts

I have thousand charts, all say different things.

Hindu tradition and traditional chinese medicine are completely different.

TCM and cosmology:

Wood/Aether - Index

Earth - Thumb

Fire - Middle
Water - Little

Metal/Wind - Ring

Hindu:

Aether - Middle

Earth - Ring

Fire - Thumb
Water - Little

Air - Index

What is correct? We can not have different elements flowing through different fingers, in different cultures, what is this :) The human body system is one and the same across all cultures.

I have made lesser research on the Hindu tradition and the TCM approach with the associated organs to each finger, make complete sense to me.

How can I my Self feel the appropriate element associated with each finger?

As you have discovered.

It depends upon who you read and which 'explanation' you choose to accept.

There is no concensus.

That holds for most dogma.

Take your 'finger-element' pick..

They're all equally valid ( for what purpose they serve).

I think this version from a Hindu Tantric school makes the most sense (my understanding of it may not be totally correct, apologies)...

pinky = root chakra...earth
ring = 2nd chakra/sexual forces/kundalini...water

middle = 3rd and heart chakra...fire

index = throat chakra/sense of self...air
thumb = head (third eye and crown)...ether

It's structurally, energetically, and elementally in order. I've also seen that in Ayurveda they correspond the classical elements to those fingers.

Also, in my opinion, in TCM wood relates to wind and metal to ether.

Makes sense. Wood to wind, correct.

And yes, with such things one is far better of researching it by one Self in meditation.

Thanks to the both of you.

Hi 4bsolute,

Like every so often, there are indeed no absolutes in this question. But personally, I find it worth-wile to consider various outlooks.

With this in mind, I can recommend this article which is treating the western tradition of cheiromancy from the astrological/elemental perspective in some depth.

You may also want to take a look at a conversation I had with a Chinese lady not long ago about how the elements in the western tradition relate to the Chinese model especially regarding astrology. .

Best,
