Healthy teeth

I've finally decided to replace all the silver fillings in my teeth with white non-toxic kind. For those who don't know, the common silver filling dentists use to cover the holes contains mercury. What's wrong with mercury? Read this

Amalgam / Mercury Dental Filling Toxicity

I was reading one of the russian health magazines my mom buys and found an interesting article about this russian scientist about 300 years ago was researching bacteria and discovered that our common salt kills any bacteria on contact. So he started using salt to brush his teeth with after every meal (at that time they didn't have toothpaste). They say he died at the age of 90 with ALL his teeth in perfect condition, white in color.

Here is something else I found: "Teeth are made of salt crystals like common table salt. Everyone's done the experiment where some yarn is hung in a glass of salt water and large salt crystals form on the yarn as the water evaporates. The crystals are white. What makes teeth yellow or dark is the stuff that gets stuck inside the salt."

I say FUCK TOOTHPASTE!

Thanks, Ron. Sounds interesting. Here is another link with good info on uses of Bentonite Bentonite clay

I will replacing them in about 2 months or so, and it will cost me about $80 per filling (no insurance). One thing I noticed after cleaning teeth with salt is in the morning they still feel clean.

i had a filling come out about 5 years ago and never had it replaced. still no problems.

i did a quick webserach for alternative dentists in LA and came up squat. maybe you just have to call a lotta dentists. there's a guy in maryland i know that does remedial dentistry--removing mercury and replacing it with safe alternatives. dont have his contact info handy, but i might could get it ina cupla days

It has always struck me as kind of odd that if you have a small hole in a tooth the accepted way is to make it much bigger a then to refill it with toxic materials. I've read that the process of finding holes in your teeth is highly subjective. A story might illustrate this (as accurate as I can recall of course):

A man had a treatment with one dentist and thought he wanted to see if dentists really could be trusted. He therefore went to see another dentist to have his teeth checked. This new dentist then found another 3 holes which he considered needed to be fixed. The man, upset from this seemingly sloppy treatment by the first dentist and possible overtreatment by the second, reported both the dentists to the central authority (in Sweden) handling all such complaints. This authority then had 2 of their own "super specialists" check the man's teeth and went ahead and found 4 holes. Strange thing is that the last 3 dentists who had found "new" holes found them in different places and none of them was the same.

great thread! I'll try that salt thing and see how it works. So far, I tried it once this morning and it does seem to have a whitening effect.

Max, thanks for the info.

I'm going to try the salt idea to brush my teeth for now on!

My teeth yellowed a bit because I like Ruffles Chips with Cheddar and Sour Cream. <_<

Plain ol' salt, eh? (sometimes a flavored oil? Yes, these do help a little...)

Interestingly enough, I have been a fan of the "Tom's of Maine" brand for years. Besides the fact that they are flouride free, I have liked it mostly because I can also use it on my dogs' teeth, as well as myself. (Although, they go through MUCH more toothbrushes, do ya)

A very easy, safe and quick recipe is this: salt, chalking compound (calcium cardonate), and baking soda. You can add flavor with either crushed herb, seed, or oils such as cinnamon, peppermint, fennel, bayberry, juniper, etc.

One thing that came to mind with this thread was I wonder what kind of material most dentists use for braces? All three of my neices have them and although it does wonders for straightening out teeth and making smiles seemingly more "beautiful", I've always had some weird inhibitions/concerns about the CON side to them. Know anything about this? Perhaps I should ask my sister if she knows what material they are made from...

thought provoking, for sure.
