Sweet Dew Bathes the Polar Mountain

Recommended Posts

"White clouds assemble at the peak,

sweet dew bathes the polar mountain,

Having drunk the wine of long life,

you wander free,

who can know you?"

-Ancestor Lu

What does "White clouds assemble at the peak mean?

what about sweet dew bathes the polar mountain?

my guess,

it is referring to the spinning of the seventh chakra, and energy being recycled and flowing down the face

Clambering up the Cold Mountain path,

The Cold Mountain trail goes on and on:

The long gorge choked with scree and boulders,

The wide creek, the mist-blurred grass.

The moss is slippery, though there's been no rain.

The pine sings, but there's no wind.

Who can leap the world's ties

And sit with me among the white clouds.

(Han-shan

Cold Mountain Poems).

Cultivation ( never easy) as a route to enlightenment maybe?

Nope, it refers to shen gathering in the upper dantian and the flow of sweet elixir that is pouring from the pituitary gland through the roof of the mouth. This is the "wine of long life"

Hi MooNiNite - If it's chakra, it isn't Daoist, and vice-versa. Andrei's reply is very clear and fitting :-)

Not sure. There is a stage where energy pours down the face, "fountain of youth", im thinking that sweet dew "bathes" the polar mountain to be separate from..."having drunk the wine of long life" which is ketchari mudra or what Andrei says.

of course he called it "sweet" but he also uses the word "bathe". where as the elixir Andrei speaks of is more of a dripping.

wine of long life=

saliva mixed with energy in the mouth

and then swallowed

Yes, but not just any saliva. That's what Andrei was pointing out.

Then how come the Chinese are such notorious spitters in public?

We were quite shocked by that when we visited.

Even the best hotels have spittoons in the public areas.

Uggghhhhhh!

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I would also love a similar elucidation, on the Taoist interpretation of Lu Tong's poem, if anyone can solve it:

Lu Tong's Seven Bowls of Tea

The first bowl moistens my lips and throat;

The second bowl breaks my loneliness;

The third bowl searches my barren entrails but to find

Therein some five thousand scrolls;

The fourth bowl raises a slight perspiration

And all life's inequities pass out through my pores;

The fifth bowl purifies my flesh and bones;

The sixth bowl calls me to the immortals.

The seventh bowl could not be drunk,

only the breath of the cool wind raises in my sleeves.

Where is Penglai Island, Yuchuanzi wishes to ride on this sweet breeze and go back.

His prostate must have been pretty sound too.

Six bowls of tea here and I'd be up and down like an elevator.

Sounds like Amrita (I think that's what it's called) that comes down the back of the throat - incredibly sweet syrup-type thing that happened to me once during meditation.
