Microcosmic Orbit Meditation

Recommended Posts

I have been doing MCO meditation for the past 30 days but since 1 week i am having strange symptoms at night.I feel a tingling sensation starting at the base of the spine on the right side and moving upwards on the right side of spinal column and reaching the back side of the head.I feel a warming sensation on the right side of the face and head.I know its not kundalini which is a very intense sensation with shaking and twisting. But why is the chi moving only on the right side and not the left side? How many governing channels are there on the spine? Is it 1 running in the middle or 2 running on the left and right side of the spine? How do i activate the left side of the spine?Or will it become active with time? Thanks

We just did this with you on your last thread. Pretty much same question.

You never finished responding to that one, and it went to 2 pages.

Where is the sushumna channel? is it the Governing vessel in the spine or the zong mai(Taiji pole)? I am really confused because the yogis call the sushumna the central channel and say that it lies inside the spine while the taoists call the same channel inside the spine Governing vessel and they call the central channel the ZongMai which runs in the middle of the body and not the spine. And in which channel the kundalini travels when aroused, in the governing vessel or the zong mai? Thanks

If you think it is related to the meditations you are doing, dismiss it and continue cultivating fundamental things, including copious amounts of utter and complete stillness. if you think it is imbalance, some form of which often manifests various resistances, see my last sentence and perhaps go see an tcm doc that can offer a good diagnosis and treatment. if you think you have a medical problem, go see a doctor.

pretty simple. if one is experiencing weird undesirable crap from whatever meditations one is doing, then one most likely isnt focusing enough on the fundamentals. with all these questions you're asking, it doesnt sound like you should be practicing the MCO or doing kundalini practices. yogis saying this channel or that are still only the finger pointing at the moon...much different than having built a telescope and watched the earth's shadow creep and roll across its hills. which is also much different than there being no separation between sun, earth, moon, self. descriptions are vague, exact locations inexact, feeling of potential-differences directly experienced through a ton of effort on fundamentals is the sure way to produce the result.

the result manifests in accordance with the time, effort, and diligence of the practitioner.

Then I suggest carefully checking to see if you aren't accidentally focusing more on the right side, and try to balance it. Another suggestion I have is to NEVER do the 'mental' MCO as a primary practice, I never do it, ever, not even as 0.01% of my practice.

Beware the MCO.

'doing the mco meditation' doesn't say much in itself. What exactly is it you do? And what other activities do you have?

Your problem could be as simple as a posture imperfection or as complex as an an ancestor inhabiting your kidneys and causing a blockage. Or a subconscious influence from yourself, as was suggested. What I mean is, it's a wide open field.

I do the MCO with movement chi kung, and there are what seems like hundreds of ways to do it. Doing it with movement is perfectly safe if you also do the hundreds of other energy flows with movement in order not to become imbalanced. What I recommend is that you try some of the chi kung exercises that you'll find on youtube. I'm sure there are many people on this forum who know of current good videos that you can watch for free because I don't pay much attention to that stuff.

My fearless clan leader wants me to make a video so I guess I'll make one someday before too long.

For a best book for teaching a practice I recommend The Way of Energy by Lam Kam Chuen. I stopped reading about these things when books on chi kung were very scarce so no doubt there are a million books out now. I would stick to the best first one, The Way of Energy, it's really well explained and well illustrated. Nothing out there can beat it for a good solid practice that you can get from a book.

Just put that book about the MCO down and leave it, or better yet, burn it.

I wanted to start SFQ but just came to know that it also has MCO meditation. But i read several posts about SFQ here and no one has experienced adverse effects from it.Can someone only practice the standing meditation of moving yin yang in SFQ and skip the MCO?

I've come across the same thing many times in meditation of having a sensation on one side of the body that feels off. In my experience I don't think it's as straightforward as just 'activating the left'. Being a bit half arsed here I will say that there is a bit of science done on hemispherical specialisation in the brain and general leftedness and rightedness of the body. My understanding about this is that there is always some autonomy for each side so simply trying to 'activate the left' will have no impact on the right. You won't be able to easily just 'balance it out'.

I think what you need to do is trace from 'the root to the tip' of this sensation and work within it's bounds. Work within it's bounds to naturalise it. You mentioned warmth. My experience is that if warmth is present in one specific location it's not a good thing. Warmth should be equal across the whole body. And as always in meditation, be mindful of the breath.

Breath won't 'fill the space' or 'balance the left and right' but as each cycle of in and out breathing concludes you will begin again the business of sensing this thing you have on going on, and with each new 'take' on it that breathing you've done it will allow the mind to move the energy (or naturalise it, as i said).

But I suppose the best advice I can think of overall is to be still. If this sensation you have really is uncomfortable there's nothing like stillness to let it dissipate.
