Is there a taoist technique for sexual transmutation?

Recommended Posts

I've tried reading Mantak Chia's books on this topic, but I'm still unsure on what to do. Many non-taoist and taoist guides on the internet do not give a full explanation on how to do it, or are too vague.

I hope someone here can give me a concise and easy-to-understand guide on how to convert unused and stagnant sexual energy in the groin/prostate into energy that can be used for mental or physical tasks.

Thank you for your time

p.s. I have only read a couple of Taoism related books, so i probaby won't understand a lot of Taoist jargon. Please use simple english if you can.

When you say "concise and easy-to-understand," do you mean "quick and low-effort?" Like that famous Taoist song says, "the road goes on forever and the party never ends..."

Ryan, there is absolutely no chance anyone here or anywhere else can put that in a nutshell for your easy consumption.

I suggest staring the journey by familiarising yourself with more mainstream, everyday qigong practices. Look for classes in your area and read a few good books (not Mantak Chia). Look up Roger Jahnke's book 'The healing promise of Qi', it's a fantastic introduction that also goes into some pretty deep levels of practice.

Regardless of what path you take, the quick an easy thoughts are going to be a hindrance to your progress.

No. I mean don't use excessive new-age/taoist terminology, vague metaphors and directions, but, well, be concise and easy to understand. Which is what i said.

What's wrong with Mantak Chia? He explains everything very well (apart frm sexual transmutation unfortunately). But i read a lot of comments on here that are negative of him. I don't know why.

EDIT: Does Roger Jahnke's book describe how to do sexual transmutation and/or allow the flow of stagnant qi around the groin? (I think that's the same thing). Thank you for your help

Working on your mind and habits will transmute your energy.

If you shift your mind away from sex and onto other activities your energy transmutes.

Ignore me if you don't use it anyway, but drop the porn for a while. Your energy will transmute.

This is very taoist - aligning to nature - sleeping and rising with the sun. Good diet and water.

Simple meditation, not trying to do much. Just slowing down and quieting down. Really relaxing.

If you were to say practice an internal martial art such as taiji, bagua or xingyi, or a moving qigong form for an extended period of time, qi would not stagnate. There would be no need for any mental moving of energy through meditation.

No, not specifically, but my point was that the levels you're attracted to take a loooong time to reach and you really have to start at the start or you'll wander through an endless labyrinth without ever achieving your goal, and could very well doing yourself more harm than good. In fact, if you take a more conservative approach, start at the roots, you may well see your goals change and become something attainable.

What's wrong with Mantak Chia is precisely that:he gives people the false impression that they can go places they aren't ready to go.

But it's just my view. There'll be more on the way, I'm sure.

PS - that was a reply to this "Does Roger Jahnke's book describe how to do sexual transmutation and/or allow the flow of stagnant qi around the groin? "

What is your current energetic cultivation practice like, Ryan? More than the reading you mention in your introductory post on the forum? I ask because sexual transmutation is generally not considered a starting point -- it would be kinda like someone posting on a calculus site and saying, "I've read a few articles on advanced math and really want to learn integro-differential equations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integro-differential_equation) but I don't understand the lingo..."

I have tried shifting my mind away from sex, but it doesn't seem to work. It's like ignoring an itch. Sooner or later, the itch begins to disappear, but there is no increase in mental or physical energy. If anything, trying to ignore the sexual energy tires me out.

Also, are you being literal when you say sleep and rise with the sun? If that was the case, then i'll have only 9 hours of being awake in my location in the UK! Life's too short to sleep for 15 hours everyday during the winter!

Hi Brian,

I normally do simple meditation every morning (focusing on my breathing), and simple exercises practising mindfulness and attention to the flow of qi. I'm not sure if that's 'energy cultivation' really, but this is what i do. I still regard myself as a beginner (i'm only 18, so i got time to get this right).

i have also reduced the amount of ejaculations to one per week, which greatly increases my energy throughout the day. I have difficulty (with regards to willpower) becoming totally abstinent as I like having a high libido. Becoming totally celibate makes me feel asexual and tired again, which is what Mantak Chia also recognised. He said i shouldn't become completely abstinent (in his book 'the multi-orgasmic man'), as if i don't use it, i will lose it (which i certainly do not want).

I hope you can understand this. My knowledge of Taoism and energy cultivation is relatively poor compared to most on this forum.

You make perfect sense, Ryan -- no worries.

I would recommend beginning to follow the advice above from adept, Ish and soaring crane.

And don't focus too much on the "sexual energy" concept -- instead, find a qigong or internal MA teacher and start practicing. There are several members here from the UK who might be able to help you identify someone in your area.

Sleeping relatively early and waking up early is great. You can experiment with it and see how you feel :)

First question: Why are you unsure what to do with Mantak Chia's practise?

His practise is the very most easy you can find out there, to say the least. But please get into detail, ask yourself and also let us know why exactly you do not know what to do?

M.Chias book are super detailed. He also states that you have to have a medical grade book for anatomy to make everything precise. You can also look up in the internet for whatever question you have.

I was not familiar with any Taoist practise and even now I do not stick to One major thing and worship it. You never should do that. Ever. Do whatever feels good for you.

Taoism is not the only place where you can learn how to transform energy.

The very first book from Mantak Chia about the entire topic is of course the start, how you prepare yourself. And the start is that you need to know what is going on inside your system. Emotions, glands, organs, muscles, bone, bonemarrow. This is the start.

Otherwise you make mistakes and you have to come back with that. And since energy practise is not Kindergarten or a work for times when you are bored, you have to be precise and be careful or things Can Get Lethal!

M.Chia's very first book is "Awakening Healing Light o.t Tao". With this one you start and you learn to recycle your emotions. In this book you also learn the Microcosmic Orbit, which is a work you to know in order to start with Qi gong and lateron Tai Chi.

It all builds up. Start at the bottom.

9pm-1am pineal gland and stem-cell regeneration

1am-4am sexual hormones.

Go to bed for a whole week at 9pm and sleep in a total dark room. The results you feel almost immediatelly.

You already witness through these changes after this first week, that ALL MESS on this planet is mostly because people tend to not sleep. No rest.

PS: Regarding your very first post on this page - working from the outside to change the inside takes ages. You are much, much faster if you work from the inside to the outside. Means: Meditation and get back to source. In these finer layers you change your DNA in an EXTREME fashion, compared to .. here and there .. practise virtues. You can do that anyway, as icing on the cake.

4bsolute,

I think Mantak Chia explains most of the things in his book very well, apart from Sexual transmutation. He does the same thing as Napoleon Hill in his book 'Think and grow rich'. He says all the benefits and reasons to do it, but doesn't give clear directions on the process of achieving sexual transmutation.

Could you expand what you mean by getting back to the source through meditation please?

Yes. Let me try. Words...

Through meditation you strip away all the layers of your being. First of all your human being, your human layers and then more and more of the rest of all your bodies. Basicly you draw in all your senses to the point where you are just absolute pure being-ness.

Source = God = Tao = [insert name here]

Since the universe is all about vibrations, you then match more and more our primal aspect. And this primal aspect is before thought was created. Before everything was created.

In different traditions they talk about ripples on the water. When the water has no ripples, you can see to the bottom. Your mind makes the most ripples through the nature of thought.

When you are at the point of this stillness then you can even feel what intention is. Intention then is the initial "burst" of energy that gives rise to thought.

The whole idea is to get to the point of this stillness to let your Higher Aspect come more fully into your being here in this 3rd density. I like to explain it as an complete overhaul in a garage. Our Higher Self, Soul, whatever can only work and enhance us if we are in this stillness. I do not know why, I have to still find it out.. but I have perceived it, but can not explain it yet

That is all that is in all traditions. And so much goes along with it. Energetic applecations, thought application, physical applications, you name it..

Your Higher Aspect brings more Holism in your being. You get more and more perfect, the ego gets stipped off, all the mind-human-me connections are gone, you are become more to your ultimate-being-ness-nature.

I am sorry because I feel so incompetent to put this into words right now, that is all I can do. Since all of this, is self-experience, you need to experience it for yourself. There are no words for it. And you obviously see we have many, many, many, many words for it.. different traditions and definitions but IT ALL IS THE SAME.

Many blessings.

“We need to appreciate our mistakes and the ways in which we seem to mess ourselves up. In the life of a practitioner, those seemingly false steps represent the ripening of karma and the exhaustion of evil deeds…

Shantideva* says, you become like a stick of wood, a dry stick of wood, lying in a field, when the charge is up and you simply experience the charge. And that’s how you resolve karma,
that’s how you do it.
You stay with the feeling and you stay with the situation; you stay with the unacceptable level of stress, emotional stress that the situation is causing you. And you realize it’s really your own shit and you hang out with it and you go through it. And at the end, because you have been willing to live through the feeling, which is something that humans don’t ever do. They never do it, humans don’t do that.
That’s how samsara goes, because you never actually live through a feeling without dumping it on someone else or repressing it.

But when you do do that, when you simply hang out with the feeling you resolve the karma and at the end of the process you see a lot of things you never saw before. Now you could say this is a sort of reward for doing a good job, which I’m ok with that way of looking at it. But from a psychological standpoint, because you’ve been willing to take the feeling as a feeling and not as the truth about the situation and simply live with it, therefore you’re personal investment in seeing things in that old way has been diminished, and because of that now you can see things in a different way. And you get all kinds of interesting insights about it.” ~
