Push Hands Tips?

Recommended Posts

Despite being involved with all this stuff for a handful of years, I've managed to never do much push hands.

I've found a class nearby and will be going to that next week. Any tips from the seasoned professionals around here?

Have fun and don't take it too seriously. Learn from losing. Ask your partner to do slow motion instant replays and ask him to stop at that instant that you feel you lost balance, center or whatever and explore different ways that might work. Then continue. Did I say have fun? It should be. There should be laughter not growling.

your hands are like antenna's / feelers - offer no resistance - move from your center.

resistance/tension gives something to push against - resist and you are gone.

relax and you will be able to move ahead of your opponent.

Do not plan your next move - don't think - be spontaneous
