Is there an ignore function? Could there be?

Recommended Posts

There's an ignore posts by specific members function, if that is what you mean? (you can also choose to ignore PMs by a person as well).

<3 that quote.

imo the "ignore" function is way under-utilized.

I use it a lot, but then I keep "peeking" so it doesn't work out so well ROFL.

I noticed the peek function, dang. Any way to turn that off?

Nothing better than using TTB's to examine yourself!

If you ignore someone does that prevent them from seeing your posts? :)

No.

the ignore-button is a wonderful method,

but when someone on your ignore list chooses to react on a post of yours...

I then feel the need to answer...out of politeness

but getting me into a discussion with someone that I'd prefer to ignore.

ah well, just like real life

No.

So it isn't like FB ... gnashing of teeth ...

but when someone on your ignore list chooses to react on a post of yours...

Then that leaves little option but to rip the guy a new asshole?   :)

Discretion is the better part of valor, and patience is a virtue...

:D

If you have the system configured to e-mail you when someone quotes one of your posts, you still get the notification -- which includes the contents of their reply. It is up to you, then, whether it is worth responding to...

;)

Yes, discretion and patience, I agree.  It's just fun to act tough here instead of reacting in the thread in question.  I sent the guy a nice PM kindly asking him to remove his comment.  I suspect you can also ask a moderator to eliminate a post?

You can report a comment for moderator review but I will say that there is rarely action unless it breaks the rules or trolling like.

OK, I guess I have to live with it.  It's so nice living here in the remote mountains, far from the 'them'.  In South America, where 'they' barely exist.

I tried putting myself on ignore but it didn't work.  I guess my ego energy is too strong and it over-rode the forum function.

Yeah.

If it seem egregious the moderators often start by PM'ing the party and asking them nicely to edit the offending message or back off the whole thread.   Often parties get so wrapped up in arguments and insults both seem culpable and its harder to assign blame.  You just hope they separate and not troll each other in other threads.

Altough this seems to be quite common when a topic has boiled over.

I find the level of discourse on this form to be very interesting and quite high. As far as the ignore function if one does not have attachment to what others say and are not attached to what they say, this often resolves a lot of things.
