From child to man to child

Hong Kong Harbor

1967 or 1968

cloudy cold and wet

the wind put the flag

to attention, the water

blended into the grey sky

a young sailor looked

into the murky depths,

an old man reflects.

this windblown world

so fragile

like a spiderweb,

so powerful,

like the volcano,

soft as a womens breast,

hard as a diamond.

what is there to learn?

what is there to know?

the ship pulls slowly away,

the docks disappear in the grey fog.

life is forever

there is no reason why.
