what kind of injury? I personally have had no success or heard of anyone having success with sprains, pulls, etc. using acupuncture. If it is helpful, it's certainly not cost effective. I've had success using portable TENS machines you can buy in chinatown for soft tissue stuff. And then there are some good herbals for pain relief and to speed up healing.

then you should find another acupuncturist, as sprains, pulls etc can definitely be handled with acupuncture and depending on your practioner it can be very cost effective, if the acupuncturist doesnt have a sliding scale or whatever and charges the full amount for something simple like that then it wouldnt be, i wouldnt use a TENS unit as its not as good as electro stim with the needles inserted, however, if your not going to an acupuncturist then the TENS is fine. i use TENS very rarley and the E STIM almost everyday. also, for just sprains and pulls then you would need to find you some die da jiu (dit da jow) the real stuff and not the overpriced stuff on the net of which you find and dont know the quality of. the stuff in chinatowns is ok but unless you get the herbalist's batch then you would do better making it on your own. i make all mine up from shaolin formulas which i have modified to do what i want, stop pain, relax sinews, stop bleeding, reduce swelling, relieve toxicity etc. along with the other general properties of moving qi and blood. the patients in clinic i use it on and sell it to have great success with it, dit da is quite good, at least mine is, i spent enough time learning what to do to the herbs to make it better and stronger and processing them correctly plus i charge less than what is found on the net and i know its better as i made it, know whats in it, used the correct herbs, modified them to fit my needs etc. but then again we have no idea what his friends problem is. heck if all it were was a sprain or pull then i would use the jow and tui na and then cupping and that would do the trick, i wouldnt break out the needles unless that didnt work!

I didn't think about cupping...I just hurt my sacrum really badly and am getting some physical therapy for it..would cupping help? are you selling your dit da jow? In the past, acupuncture didn't help me at all for these types of sports injuries.

cupping over the sacrum can be done but when its that low then i would use needles actually inserted into the sacral foramen's, actually deep enough to go thru the hole and use e stim there. dit da would help as well depending on the injury, my dit da's are made for anything from pain and swelling to fractures and tendon problems but i also made one up for bruised bone, the speciality herbs in that go deep into the body and penetrate to the bone, also i would burn moxa depending on the specific injury. sorry about the acupuncture not helping you in the past for sports injuries, i know friends that have practices and thats all they do is sport related injuries, perhaps a acupuncture specialist in that area could help if one is available where you live.

as far as my dit da goes, yes it will be for sale as soon as the batches i got going are ready, soon they will be available on the web under my girlfriends website as i make sure she is involved in the process as she is also a certified chinese herbalist (NCCAOM certified), i am just a doctor of oriental medicine canidate which includes herbs. i didnt want to actually put it on the net in a mass market thing but this website is given to her customers here so they can order stuff, however its not completed as of yet but will be in the next few weeks. i also carry plasters and ointments made by hand for anything from burns to toxic swellings to injuries due to any trauma that breaks the skin. all the herbs i use are not sprayed with anything and no sulfur that is used to help with preservation, and when a formula i make calls for vinegar processing, or removing the oil of certain herbs first or dry frying etc, its all done by me. i have been selling the dit da for 10 bucks for a 4 oz bottle but may start doing 6 oz for the same price, most on the net i have seen are more expensive than that. so as not to advertise you may email me i think my email is attached here somewhere, if not then p.m. me and i will give you more information.

Ok, more details been a bit preoccupied while here in NJ.

My friend has Plantar fasciatis (swollen bottom of foot) from running.

I misspoke when I asked for an acupuncturist. What I meant is a practitioner of traditional (or classical) oriental medicine. One who can use the whole tool box of oriental medicine, herbs, acupunture, etc.

Thaddeus By the way, if you've never heard of someone being helped with a sprain by acupuncture, well you have heard of someone now. I have recovered frome a very severe ankle sprain through the use of acupuncture and moxa. I had only recovered about 50% of my mobility in the 6 months since injury when I started in with the acupuncture (S.F. school of acupuncture clinic). returned to 90% + flexibility in about 3 months time.

grand trinity: care to expand on your recommendation a bit?

Dit dat sounds good too. This is a common injury to western docs, so what do eastern docs have to say about this common foot injury? My experience is that eastern medicine can do wonders for pain and mobility, maybe inflammation as well? Anyway still open for more suggestions, especially now that I have been more specific.

thanks for input.

Craig
