Hello, and a question about TTC.

Recommended Posts

.Hello all. I need clarification on something if you would. Stephen Mitchell's translation states in Ch. 2 that:

being and non-being create each other

This chapter shows the unity of opposites, how they rely on each other and define each other. But "non-being" isn't a thing, it doesn't exist. Therefore it cant be differentiated from. Being just is, just as existence just is. I don't see this in other translations. Am I being too nit-picky?

What is your favorite translation?

thanks,

j..

Sorry, found my answer. Still looking for favorite translations....

Chapter 2
1. Everyone, on earth, knows beauty as beauty,
2. Then, saw ugliness.
3. Everyone knows kindness as kindness,
4. Then, saw evil.
5. Therefore,
6. Solid and space coexisted;
7. Difficulty and easiness mutually succeeded;
8. Long and short mutually formed;
9. High and low mutually encompassed;
10. Melodies and songs mutually harmonized;
11. Front and back mutually trailed;
12. Always the same.
13. Sage handles matters in a natural manner.
14. Gives silent instructions.
15. Let things be with no interference;
16. Rear without possession.
17. Sustain without domination.
18. Success without dwelling.
19. Because of, only if, one was not dwelling,
20. Thus merits do not vanish.

Thank you Chang, ChiDragon, Marblehead. I'm new to this, and I'm sure to have many questions in the future.

Sure. Just start a thread in whatever sub-forum you think it best fits and go for it. There will always be someone around to discuss with you.

Another question, is anyone familiar with Long White Cloud Qigong? Its an online course (free) and it appears pretty comprehensive. But I have no way of knowing for sure. I found it on youtube.

thanks,

This video has more movements.

Based on observation, it seems to me that some of the movements are some basic physical exercises in junior high school.

So what should I be looking for? I know nothing about Qigong, I've only found it through my recent interest (obsession) in the Tao Te Ching.

You should look for something like Tai Ji Chuan or similar like involving breathing and with movements holistically. Another words, all the body parts are moving spontaneously and slowly in synchronize with the breathing.

Lets pretend I know nothing about what Im talking about. ;)

I often operate from that position and I don't even have to pretend.
