Watching The Birds

Recommended Posts

three times in the past 24 hours 3 different bluejays have flown within 3 or 4 feet of me, then they hesitate while in flight

right in front of me,and flutter their wings, they are not screeching or being defensive.they are not in attack mode, this has happened at 3 different locations.they seem calm.

a 4th bluejay who was hoppong around some yard like a robin will looking for a worm, flew over the fence that separated us, hopped into a ditch that crossed the path i was walking and he waited there calmly as i stepped over him.

no, i have never noticed this type of action from bluejays b4.

i feel silly even posting this. but i find it highly curious

Yes, that is curious. I have no explanation for their actions. Just one of those things we wonder at the beauty of and keep the memory but not try to find out the reason why. (We start imagining things when we do that.)

The return of the sparrow - major bless moment. Haven't seen a sparrow for years until the other week.

I'm not an expert in this field.

I love nature.

I am by no means an expert either and last year was the first time in my life I acually tried to identify birds that I see. I find that the closer I can get to Nature the more peace I have in my life.

Yeah, sparrows are busy little creatures. Fun to watch them interacting, fussing just like we humans do.

Both my wife and I were overjoyed to see the little chap !!! We have our regular bird visitors which include three wood pidgeons, and now the sparrow plus a few others. We occasionally see a robin.

I agree with you when you say, 'I find that the closer I can get to Nature the more peace I have in my life'.

I've been watching Pigeon Porn while doing Qi Gong all this week.

Every day like clockwork, I get into 'holding the stamp' and they get into each other.

Same spot, same roof, same time.

Had a finch take up residency IN my house for about an hour on wednesday.

She landed on my jasmine bush, a few inches above my cats head.

Cat exploded, finch freaked out and took an extended tour of our house: behind the fridge, on the tapestries along the hallway, on the hangers in my son's closet, in his toy chest, the tops of his wall hangings, behind the dresser, into the hermit crab tank, before finally she finally settled in a box and I could get her out the window.

Was cute as soon as I'd let her out, three of her buddies all landed next to her on the power lines, fluffing, chirping and bitching at me. They seem to have forgotten all about it as they gathered at the line today again for feeding time.

Life is good.

Reminds me of the time a sparrow landed on our first family dog, Tippo, it actually landed on his head ! Tippo(toy poodle) remained perfectly still, then a few seconds later the sparrow flew off. Would have made a great photograph.

Another heartwarming memory was freeing a bird trapped in a fence.

Isn't it great how quickly other animals can forgive?

I saw a butterfly this morning I have never seen in my gardens before. Almost pure white except for three darker circular patterns on the outer part of its wings. Pretty little bug.

i did hear one screeching bluejay mid afternoon.

You are likely right about the one being a finch, I just didn't feel like looking it up. I did mention before that for me, if it looks like a Sparrow I will be calling it a sparrow. (Actually, the coloring and the beak gives it away as not being a Sparrow.)

BTW Robins don't live here during the summer. Too freakin' hot for them.

Good news/bad news flash. I just stepped out the back to the pond area and noticed that a bird, either sparrow or finch, has made its nest in one of my Christmas Cactus hanging pots. Yeah, that's the good news. The bad news is that the same thing happened last year with disaster. Last year the babies took their first flight, fell in the pond water and drowned. I'm going to have to find a way to prevent that from happening again this year.

Ugh... that sounds less than fun.

How big a project to move the cactus pot?

No, that wasn't fun. It broke my heart.

I have taken a closer look; no eggs in there yet, just the preparation going on.

Moving it is a dilemma though because down here where I live it cannot be in direct sun else it will burn to death. The pot (all of them) are protected from the sun as well as excessive water from rain by the pond cover.

I could move it to another area under the cover but the bird would likely find it. Or I could destroy the nest since there are no eggs in it.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Well, I switched its place with the pot that is the closest to where it enters the pond area. As soon as I get the cover area that I am working on finished I might be able to move it to an area where it will be even closer to the entrance area and not directly above any water.

Yeah, and most of us don't take the time to dance either.

My hearing is faulty, especially the higher frequencies, and I rarely wear my hearing aids so it isn't very often that I hear the birds singing but every now and again one will get close enough to me so that I can hear it. The Doves and the Greyjays are the most vocal. Of course, when the Sparrows get into a group they are always talking about something or another.

I am fortunate that my hearing is fairly OK as one of the possible 'side effects' of being involved in the heavy metal scene is a loss of hearing due to spending so much time listening to very loud music ! Rehearsals - 12 hrs daily over the weekend, then when your out on the road its the sound checks and then the gig; so I am fortunate to still hear the birds sing !

As for dancing, well, I use a walking stick to help me get around - that would be a funny sight ! So I dance, only I do so in my consciousness, and that way no one gets hurt :D !!!

We, well a lot of us, have been so conditioned by what I call the System, that we have forgotten how to dance and our soul's are the worse for this.

Their are dancing groups of people worldwide who meet under the banner of Sufism, how I wish we had one locally. I have seen such meetings on You Tube, and they are truly joyful occasions. I'd not be able to dance but I can listen to the singing and music.

And on that note !!! I'll bid farewell for now !

Cute.

Yeah, my physical dancing is limited as well but that doesn't stop me from embracing myself when I am listening to some old song from when I was a teenager. I even sometimes get up and dance with myself - I can go at my own speed that way, doesn't matter what the music is doing.

Oh, yeah, I took the feeder down this morning because the pigeons were in total domination of the area. I don't mind a few coming around but when the numbers get above six birds that is just too many.
