This is a webcomix thread, the place for webcomix

I won't recommend any because I can't think of anything on the top of my head

So you recommend something instead

Garfield doesn't count

I don't like just funny ones

Just funny ones don't have much thought put into them

I would start reading them and try to catch up to something important and then find out that there was nothing going on since the beginning

The best comics are like this

Let's start the talk with a webcomic called Sinfest

http://www.sinfest.net/

This thing looks like art to me, a lot of webcomic artists say that webcomics are art but they have nothing to show for it

I don't know much about this Tatsuya Ishida fellar, he doesn't talk to fans but sometimes he puts himself right into the comic and you get the idea what is going on on the other side

Oh, and he works for Darkhorse, but who cares

This thing is art and I know without having to tell me

I know it's very important to Tat since the comic has been running for many many years

You can even see how the history changes and influences the comic

In the beginning there were just few crude characters and some well predeveloped ones,

you know, like GOD, or more like God's hand and some puppets, remember that part?

Overtime characters who were just caricatures in the beginning become developed and you start to understand what's on their minds without reading anything about it

It's just there, like a painting or some picture, but instead of being just a picture, there is a meaning behind it

I check it out everyday and it is updated everyday so it's a good thing to check out everyday, and stuff

Fun fact: Felt like naming myself after it instead of using the same name on every site I go to

Next webcomic phenomena is Wasted Talent

http://www.wastedtalent.ca/

A Canadian thing that takes place in Vancouver

It's an autobiographic comic and so we see the author running around the place and panels

The story starts in College thing and follows the adventures of Angela Melick, a girl engineer student person

She eventually graduates, since it's an autobiographic comic, and has a life and stuff

All the characters that appear in the comic are real people and stuff that happens is also real, no stunt doubles

This is one of the first comics I found and I've read it so many times that I'm kinda sick of it, but sick of it in a good way because I wont be getting sick of it if it wasn't any good

AND IT IS GOOD, because I'm telling you that

A lot of fun stuff happens and many young people being young

It is updated, eventually

Next up is Gunnerkrigg Court by some guy who needs money

http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/index2.php

The author quit his job to work on the comic fulltime

Good for him, if only he also update more often

The author who from now on will be addressed as Tom Siddell is named Tom Siddell

Here's some info on him

http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/about.html

Amazing

The comic itself is very formal and follows a proper story and is separated by chapters

The story follows a girl named Antimony Carver who attends school that is coincidentally called Gunnerkrigg Court

The setting seems normal at first but later it's revealed that not only the events at school are weird but the setting is also more interesting then it first looked

The art improves a lot from the start and the stories are very engaging

Many characters are introduced and I don't want to spoil anything because exploring the court with the characters is most fun

Fun fact: I think me and Tom look the same

The next glorious ultra delicious jem is Octopus Pie

http://www.octopuspie.com/

This comic is made by this lady named Meredith Gran

The is very active in the webcomic community place,

Protip: After a while you notice that there is a webcomic community

The webcomic is best described by this phrase left on the front page

Octopus Pie is an ongoing comic series about two women living in Brooklyn, NY - their jobs, social circles, and some problems.

It is a great comic, if it sucked I wouldn't have mentioned it in the first place

It has humor, story, and what I like the most about it, the mood

It changes from silly, to slow and thoughtful

It takes place in a city and shows all the fun things that could be done while living in a city, like meeting new people, doing crazy things for work, baking while baked, rocking with a rock lobster, and learning under zen ducks

Fun fact: There will be one more fact after this one

Fun fact two: There was a fun fact before this one

You guys are definitely going to enjoy this next one, or else

http://dresdencodak.com/

The comic is barely drawn by Aaron Diaz, who has problems with sleeping, sees things that are not there, and is probably crazy or he want's you to think that

http://dresdencodak.com/about/

THERE HE IS! GET HIM!

The comic is full of single page, or something, stories that are recently have been forced into making sense with a story, or something

The story follows this Kim Ross character who has scientifically based adventures that mostly resemble some drug related visions of what science should really look like

I spoke of mood before, the mood of this comic is very calming to me and it's like a happy place

Not everything immediately makes sense to me but it's so familiar that I would like to stay there

Maybe I just need more sleepless nights to understand

Fun fact: Apparently a bunch of people got high before making science and that's why we have things we have today

The history of this next comic begins in the ancient past of the internets

http://www.johnnywander.com/

Nah, not really

Another very nice autobiographic comic about a munch of young people

Don't worry, I'll get to old people eventually

The epic history of his comic crosses with the lines of destiny of comics Apple Geeks and Mac hall

Machall is mentioned because it's usually gets confused with Apple Geeks, both are about apple geeks

Ananth is a writer for Apple Geeks and here are his stats

about-ananth.jpg

The artist for Johnny Wander is Yoko

about-yuko.jpg

Fun Fact: They both might have a last name

It's a nice thing to follow and read now and then, one of my favorites

Can't really describe what is going on in there because there is a lot going on in there

And now it's time for a cult classic

http://www.darcomic.com/

This comic is created by the legendary Erica Moen

DAR! chronicles the six year long autobiographical story of Erika Moen, who starts out as a lost 20-year-old lesbian artist-wannabe in college who falls in love with a boy in England and the evolution that her sexual identity undergoes before winding up marrying him as a queer 26-year-old full-time cartoonist. Along the way there are many vignettes about sex, farts, the queer community, the Brits, vibrators and figuring out sexual identity.

It ran from 2003-2009.

It is not cheating if I use quotes because I make the rules here!

This one is really an epic tale of epic adventures, and it's all real, again

It starts off very gloomy but everything works out in the end, of the comic

It started when she felt the worst and ended when she felt the best in her life

It's a very good read

2008-02-17darigins.jpg

Fun fact: There is also a very neat graphic novel online http://www.buckocomic.com/ and I participated in the wiki thing http://buckonet.wikispaces.com/ if only I could find what I wrote there

As promised, it's time for another legend

http://www.americanelf.com/

These autobiographic comics tend to end sometimes while other keep going... since 1998

10-26-98.gif

The adventures of Kochalka, the American Elf, are adventures of his

He is actually a superstar and he makes music that you might recognize if you listen to this

OK, listen to this first

On a channel called Nickelodeon there was a show called KABLAM! and it had some music in it

I wonder where that came from

Anyway, the comic has been going on for a veeeeery long time

He made one small strip every whenever he made one small strip

The whole thing is so long that you can even watch his kids grow, weird

Speaking of long comics

http://www.scarygoround.com/

Omigawd, this one is actually not that long but think about how long the whole thing is when I tell you this: It's a sequel

Bad Machinery is a comic by John Allison and is a sequel to Scary Go Round

WHICH IS A SEQUEL TO BOBBINS, kinda

Bad Machinery is about some kids who solve mysteries

These kids are related to some characters from Scary Go Round

Some characters from Scary Go Round are characters from Bobbins

And they all love to talk, so much

If you have time or too much of it, read every line of dialogue you can ever find there

Fun fact: I kinda know what's going on in the story

One more and then I'll go drink something

http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php

This one is a HISTORICAL WEBCOMIC

Or more like, making fun of history

The author Kate Beaton has a history degree and worked in a museum, she lives all over the place

I think this thing would be funnier if I knew what they were talking about hmmm...

It is time to continue with

http://english.bouletcorp.com/

This is a autobiographical comic by Boulet who likes to call it a blog

He lives in Paris and is very French

He is a cartoonist and so the quality of comics is great

The site is originally French but it has an English translation AND a Korean one

Sometimes he shows how his work is, how his days go by, and sometimes he slows down to think about things

and sometimes it's just silly things

Fun fact: Number 3 there keeps giving me deja vu

Now for something silly

http://www.gunshowcomic.com/

This bucket of silliness is by KC Green

Unlike the comics that came before it, it doesn't get philosophical at all

20100125.gif

Does this count?

Quality is very low on the first few strips but they are still funny and the art improves later on

There is no story but the random little things that keep happening

One of these things is the Anime Club which got its own page on the site

http://gunshowcomic.com/ac/

Read these at your own risk, the truth can be harsh

I don't check back to it because I won't miss anything if I don't read it for few weeks... or months...

OK back to serious stuff

http://ghostcarpress.com/inkdick/

This is a comic of Pranas T. Naujokaitis and I had to go to his about page to copy his name here

This comic started when Pranas had to make this comic as an assignment for college

and he never stopped... until recently, which sucks

Now listen, this comic is very interesting because it was originally an autobigraphic comic started as a college assignment in sequential art(comics course)

That means, there are other artists from his crass or college who've done the same thing

Some events take place in many comics at the same time on the internet that way

There is a comic of Pranas's'ss friend Brett Muller

http://thebrainseed.com/odyssey/

2008-10-23-DO.jpg

And here is a comic of the professor who gave the assignment in the first place

http://sweetwaterisanasshole.com/

2009-06-01.jpg

Oh and here is a comic of Kevin Burkhalter

http://kevinsjournalcomic.com/index.html

9-7-2010.gif

oh and by the way, here's a comic by Shazzbaa

http://www.todaynothinghappened.com/

journalcom70knock.jpg

See what I mean

Back to Pranas, who is my favorite out of the bunch

hourly2010prev.jpg

We basically watch his grow up as he finally finishes his studying and moves to some place safer

A lot of eventful things happen as he lives in wherever that bad neighborhood was

We also see a lot about his friends and family, he really let's you into his life

Fun fact: Know what, I'll go read it again

http://www.abominable.cc/

By Karl Kerschl, kay?

THE EPIC TALE FOLLOWS THE ABOMINABLE CHARLES CHRISTOPHER AS HE ADVENTURES IN A FOREST and stuff

It's a very good looking comic with lots of humor and nice imagery

Charles himself doesn't talk but the animals are there to crack all the jokes

ALL THE JOKES

It also get's serious with a subplot about bears

Very readable

I applaud this thread. Although, you remind me of Lord of the Ring's Gollum, talking by yourself. Hehe, just a joke. I was wondering how come there aren't replies. Do I have to post a comic in this reply? If so, sorry! :s

I follow several comics but none of what you have posted so far.

That is a great place to find more comics and the list changes as people vote.

I follow a few comics, forgive me if I can't link them all, can't always remember which ones I still actually read.

I kinda don't like list of top comics place

In theory when people vote it would be easier to find good comics buuuuut that doesn't work for me

For example, one thing that doesn't work is that you can't find comics that are already completed

Today Nothing Happened was on that site's list and very high up that you even saw the banner, but now it's not there because Shazzbaa stopped asking people to vote for her comic

Oh, and I also hate all that sexy stuff and it usually get's very high on these lists

THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THE SEXY RULE IS THIS

http://leth.smackjeeves.com/comics/

OK, there might be more, like oglaf because it's funny

The comic is made by this person http://lowroad75.deviantart.com/

I started following his stuff since I found the Lowroad comic

He stopped making that one and put all the comics in one file and uploaded then somewhere, it's a good read, too

His current comic, Leth Hate, is supposedly about this dude who hates everything who is also dead

But no one cares about him because all the interesting stuff happens to this geeky succubus he lives with

Nothing uber sexy happens so it's just a tease most of the time, it's also very funny

Fun fact: I think questionable content is boring and it sucks

Wow, you posted two of my favorite webcomics, Sinfest! Dresden Codak, which I fell in love with because of both the style and the writing...and one I was shocked to see on your list, Gun Show.

You even posted one of my all-time favorite panels from it! The dog on the plane cracked me up.

But the Anime Club is the most brilliant series in his comics, in my opinion.

*lights a pipe and sits down*

hm yes, the anime club is a great satire on the geeky anime culture

there is always a Mort who is not happy and Mark with whom Mort argues with

there is always some elitist anime club somewhere

and there's always someone talking about Naruto

many memorable moments are in there and reading the thing is... completely not life changing

As Clyde said once, "She took... all these horses"

How about another comic no one ever heard about

http://www.bobwhitecomics.com/

THIS ONE

Bobwhite is a comic by Magnolia Porter

about2.jpg

And

quail.jpg

This one one of these complete comics that no one is going to mention ever again

When I first found it I didn't even try finishing it because it starts off slow

But I kept seeing it and one day decided to finally read it and it was great

It has a lot of great situational stuff and characters are different from the usual suspects

Something I should have mentioned in the first posts if I cared enough back then

A great way to reread a webcomic is to read blog posts at the bottom on the strips

This one doesn't have oh so many blog posts but there's one big at the final page

Finding out about the artist is one of funnest parts of reading webcomics

So go ahead and start reading http://www.bobwhitecomics.com/?webcomic_post=20080728

20080820.jpeg

Protip: Hover your mouse over strips to read notes like at xkcd

Fun fact: There's a comic a billion times worse then Questionable Content but I'm not going to mention it ever ever because I'm still trying to get over it
