OSHO meditation resort/spiritual communities

Recommended Posts

I have an ego problem. Ive been working at self-destruction for about a year and half now. Ive seen what it means to break free from it. The ego problem is simple, and so is the solution. It can become seemingly extremely complicated/confused when you throw in family, strong emotional currents, and other mind-clutter. Breaking free for me is process based. You repeat the process until you clear the clutter. I see the clutter for what is now, but it easily refills, being around my family and other people with whom I share a large amount of past. I need to get out and go somewhere else.

Does anybody know of places where there are emotionally mature people and it is possible to live or work? Where people know about things like Qi? Im looking at the OSHO resort, it looks promising, but it will be an expensive trip and they dont pay you to work/live there. Any other communities or places you can stay and live with mature people?

Born in Tibet Lord Jigten Sumgon (Rinchen Phel or Ratna Shri in Sanskrit) was an emanation of Buddha Shakyamuni and was considered to be one of the greatest disciples of Phagmo Drupa, who named him as his successor.

Founded in 1994 by the Venerable Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche, Chicago Ratna Shri Sangha has sustained itself with regular practice in the homes of local practitioners and teachings given by the precious lamas of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, who have been invited several times yearly.

Under the guidance of our spiritual director, Drupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, we are striving to establish a strong center dedicated to serving the Chicago area as a place for teachings, practice, contemplation, and meditation. Under the guidance of Drupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, our goal is to sponsor regular retreats, teachings, and to maintain our regular weekly practice. The Zen Buddhist Temple of Chicago is one of the oldest practicing Zen centers in the United States and the oldest continually-operating Chicago area Zen center. The Temple was founded in 1949 by Zengaku Soyu Matsuoka Roshi, whose family in Japan has a history of Zen priests dating back six hundred years.

Daikaku Kongo Roshi (Richard Langlois), Matsuoka Roshi’s disciple and dharma successor, became the Abbot and served in that post for 28 years. Kongo Roshi vigorously carried on the Zen traditions and teachings emphasizing the pure zazen (meditation) practice of shikantaza (just sitting) until his death in 1999.

The Zen Buddhist Temple of Chicago, inspired by our history, continues on in our tradition of promoting and supporting strong Zen practice.

I can't know for a fact that All are mature, but I am sure that many are.

Of course,...that's why my complete expression was:

"For example, I would say that the complete list left by xabir2005 are all immature, in that their focus will be upon teaching you the Tradition that they were taught. They will point you in many directions, except the one you currently wish to travel,...thus hoping you will "settle" for their Tradition, which after all, is the "true Tradition.""

I am actually familiar with a few of those listed organizations. Some would even suggest that they are great for beginners. My opinion is quite the opposite.

Check out LifeSurfer.org. They're in Chicago, they have a monthly Full Moon meditation that is right out of Osho's play book. While he's not a role model for me, I really like the free style of his meditations.

Also, great list Xabir. I've listened to lectures and read some of he works by Rev Kubose of the Chicago Buddhist Temple, he's very good.

They're also having some Osho classes starting next week.

About Osho Active Meditations

If you want to live a more fulfilled life, first you will want to know your potential, who you really are. Meditation is the methodology of the science of awareness.

Many meditative techniques require one to sit still & silent. But for most of us accumulated stress in our bodymind makes that difficult. To let go of our tensions Osho Active Meditations have been scientifically designed to consciously express and experience repressed feelings and emotions to learn the knack of watching our habitual patterns in a new way.

Details about each meditation offered, click here.

I did Osho Dynamic meditations for a while, they ended up making me more angry and unbalanced and when I did a bit of research my experience seemed to be common, I couldn't find anyone who practised them long term with great benefit.

His meditations were an experiment in the 60's where he meshed together Sufi, Fourth Way, Primal psychology and Buddhist meditation into one technique to try to create "Zorba the Buddha" out of his students, but it's unclear if he really knew what he was doing. I think you are better off going back to the source and practising the paths Osho took his techniques from which are usually created by knowledgeable masters of wisdom rather than Osho's mishmash of techniques put together.

Osho's central message is no technique and non-action.

IMO, techniques and rituals are there to mirror to you aspects of yourself you are unwilling to even admit or look at. They are there to create aspirations so that you may eventually drop them, and as a consequence drop all aspirations altogether. Techniques are just catalysts.

Well, you found finally one. Me. I did Dynamic every day for 3 months at the ashram in Poona back in the late 70's and it was truly transformative.

I think he's got a couple of them. What did the ashram meditation consist of, if I might ask.

Thanks

What did the ashram meditation consist of, if I might ask.

Osho's Dynamic Meditation has five stages, all done blindfolded to some driving heavy beat music. (Best to get their CD if you really want to do it.) When you read the description, you will probably think, like I first did, that it's totally wacko. Especially at 6 am like they did it in Poona! But that's a good time. Still close to dreamtime, your rational mind usually hasn't got a great grip on you yet!

In the first 10 minute segment, you breathe in and out through your nose as fast as you can, pumping with your elbows, and concentrating on your exhalation. (Have a tissue handy) After ten minutes of this, the music changes, and you go into the second stage.

Second stage, 10 minutes, catharsis! You just explode into whatever you're feeling, which has been energized by all that breathing. Screaming, laughing, sobbing, pounding pillows, gibberish, rolling on the floor, stomping, whatever comes up you act it out. If you don't feel anything you pretend and act that out, which will often surprise you at the intensity of what emerges from what was originally just pretending. The music changes again, and you shift to the third stage (this is the one that can be hard to shift gears if you've really gone into the catharsis.)

Third stage, 10 minutes. You raise your arms over your head and jump up and down, shouting Hoo!...Hoo!...Hoo! each time you come down hard on your heels, letting the sound hammer deep into your belly. (This is the one that takes incredible physical stamina to continue for 10 minutes full speed. It's actually a kind of sufi technique. When your body gets strong enough, this can feel like you are BEING jumped, ecstatic. ) This ends in a loud command "STOP!!!!" followed by silence. You freeze in whatever position you are in, theoretically standing with your arms over your head for the next 15 minutes.

Fourth stage. You stand there for 15 minutes in silence. You just watch.

Then the music comes back, and you get the fifth stage, where you get to dance. Celebrate! (For some, they're just celebrating that it's OVER!)

15 minutes of great flowing music. If you have really gone for it through all these stages, you won't believe how free and light you feel. Well, anyway, that's what happens to me.

I love Dynamic.
