What is everyones thoughs on veggie/raw/vegan supplement shakes/substitutes?

Recommended Posts

I am considering getting these. I have been doing research a bit, talking to friends, doctors and today I went to vitamin shoppe.

Here is a list of the ones I am thinking of trying:

http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Organic-Protein-Grams/dp/B0031JK96C

http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-RAW-Meal-2-6lb/dp/B0031JK95S/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

http://www.amazon.com/Lifetime-Basics-Protein-Greens-20-5-Ounces/dp/B001EOKYHK/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I was also looking into herbal teas at vitamen shoppe and they have a variety of choices. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. What about vitamins, memory pills and so on?

Thanks,

Leon

That's good stuff. i'm a big fan of the whole Sun Warrior line (http://www.sunwarrior.com/).

As for herbs, what effect are you looking for?

I use Vega smoothie infusion - unflavored

Tastes good with a little water - doesn't need anything else,

However you can add fruit if you like :)

Can you just use those basic cups they provide you with, once you buy the powder?

The shaking cups? Can you use those instead of the blender?

Care to provide a recipe? Or something you use?

I just thoroughly enjoyed one this morning, J has been on a kick for these - it was funny we went out for sushi the other night and ordered a bottle of wine and the (japanese) waitress carded us - she looked at my license and made of face like 'oh okay, little older than I expected" but when she looked at J's the face was priceless, full of exclamation and she went "woh!" ('76 for both of us, but J's skin just shines anyway and could pass for 25 if she hides that one stripe of gray in her hair ) I asked her where she's been getting stuff, she said all over the place, spark people, etc and has been compiling a list of good recipes.

here's one she got started with...

I have a cheap little 16 oz blender, it allows fast clean up and to makes smaller sizes.

Green

1/2 banana

1/2 avocado

Handful of baby spinach

Enough milk to get it blending, few oz, I use 2%, almond or hemp would to.

Sweetner, I use agave a teaspoon, - honey, stevia or none

A few drops vanilla

Ice if banana or spinach aren't frozen

Blend til uniform color

Tastes delicious like a vanilla shake

Yes, I was inspired by Boutenko's books as well, they were a very entertaining read for me. Many people report improved skin on green smoothies. The only thing, I shy away from spinach because of its high oxalates content. I mean it's good once in a while, but I wouldn't make it my green staple.
