Magick forum

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

just thought I would drop a quick liner to invite people who is interested in magick to participate in the forum http://salomesrevenge.freeforums.org It is a follow up of the Baptist Head, which closed a while ago and a bunch of nostalgic participants decided to open a new one.

Apologies for the rather spamy post, just so you know I'm not selling viagra  !

Cheers,

Well they better teach a spell to make my penis stay hard. And possibly get bigger.

Because really, that's the only reason I ever join forums. I just don't want it to LOOK like that's what I'm after, so I make sure the forum has spiritual overtones :ninja: But really, it all comes back to my insecurities about my dick.

And with 11 posts (at the time of this writing) you can't possibly be a spam bot. Unless they have evolved to get past the buffer forum, and apologize for their activities.

And if they have gotten to that point, perhaps they have developed a consciousness, a conscience, and possibly remorse. Which would all be rather interesting in and of itself.

Welcome home!

P.s. I believe Mantak Chia talks about that in one of his books actually :ninja:

Be careful when playing with fire.

Just in case.

What happened to Trunk's homepage?? It's gotten all flashy ads that don't seem to have anything to do with AT. Trunk? Surely you'd get more cash if you sold a range of books through an Amazon affiliation service or something? Or maybe not, I have no idea what those people pay to have their big flashing 'play now' buttons on websites.

It's a very good site BTW, don't let the excruciating homepage put you off :-)

Right. This is where I remind myself that this point in time would come (actually I'm just currently experiencing deja-vu which a lot has been written about but I'm damned if I know, really :-)) when I read someone writing a glowing review about AC and I feel compelled to say that a) he ripped off tantric\kundalini teachings and B) (my personal speculation) possibly during a bout of K syndrome, did some rather horrible things (apparently). I still don't get why he had people following him into that sh*t. But hey. We could have the whole cult discussion over.

When AC was around, as far as I know, there wasn't anybody really teaching kundalini stuff properly (theosophy was around, but ehem ehem), so one could say that he did his best to make it accessible. Plus, again as far as I know, he never said "I made this up" regarding yoga practices etc. so never quite ripped off anything at all.

:) :) :)

That being said, a) he was nuts, and everybody knows it, altho he didn't do many of the terrible things that are attributed to him. B ) why am I defending him?

Well I did come across some of 'AC''s 'stuff' online. It seemed very similar to some tantric stuff/golden flower I can relate to. Anyways what I mean is if you do practice(s) then you can sort of of read through the stuff and go 'ah yes'. What I mean when I say he 'ripped it off' was that I think he took it from the standpoint of 'what powers can I get from this' and was premature in both his practice and establishing himself as a teacher. IMO K practices are like a hedge. Doesn't mean you'll get it it if you do them. You can also have it happen without doing anything at all (apparently :ninja:)

If you think of his context, culture and mindset I'm hardly surprised he dreamt up devils and such in full K. I think it's not worth 'making things accessible' to people in every case. Look at Mary Jane. Possibly ritual use, now serves to blunt (sic) sad lives.

What stuff was wrongly attributed to him?

Things like killing babies, rape people, drink cat's blood, that sort of thing.

From what I know he was a complitaced, egocentric, good fella, who did some really great stuff, and some not so great stuff. I might be wrong, but this view is certainly more useful than "mmm he fancied babies! his stuff is crap!" (unless it gets me fancying babies!).

For a positive interpretation of his work you can have a read at Alan Chapman's stuff. And there is also a nice documentary called Enigma - Aleister Crowley, featuring Lon Milo Douquette. This is the trailer

Cheers

Thanks I will check it out. You know, I'm just as wary of positive spin as I am of negative spin:-)

Truth is around there somewhere but when the people are long dead, how does one go about finding it out?

nah! His comments about sacraficing babies had to do with "retention" or in his case; "anti-retention"... ie, he liked to let his "babies" get sacraficed for pleasure... ya dig?

Yea, he was a jerk! ALso a junky and and bisexual... but if you read his stuff he was f'ing brilliant. Responsible for bringing attention to a lot of practices we wouldn't know about today if it wasn't for him.

He deliberately provoked people by making comments to offend their sensibilities... remember; he lived in Victorian England, a place where piano legs had to have covers so as not to be "indecent"... sheesh...

If you actually read his work he was a Christian. He just hated the organization that uses that name.

Read The Eye In The Triangle, by Israel Regardie for the best analysis of the man.

For a system of Slow Sane Self reflective magic I like Franz Bardon.

Abardoncompanion.com has in depth commentaries on his system as well as free mp3's of some relatively easy techniques.

Michael

disclosure, I'm not a current practitioner.

That's interesting I doubt deliberately provoking people gets your practices any more than the flip off. I wonder if Victorian England was a repressive as all that or whether they were just paying lip service. I suspect the more prudish and repressed a culture, the more it's actually crazy underneath, but I digress:-)

Still, I'm interested in what AC actually did or did not do in terms of reprehensible stuff because i think that while he had every right to do what he wanted to himself, he didn't have the right to drag anyone else in without their full and enlightened consent. So yeah it would change my perspective on him if I knew. As an aside, this gets into the idea of dissasociating people from their practices or teachings and perhaps looking the other way when they do obviously reprehensible stuff. But I think we've had that discussion already?

I concur :)

Though I'm not a practitioner either, if you are interested in magick from a western, Hermetic paradigm, Bardon's Initiation Into Hermetics gives you the building blocks from the ground up in a no-nonsense, practical manner. Branching out to other people with theory, rituals, and history is great. But Bardon will provide you a great foundation to build up the rest of your knowledge.

As another resource, I suggest http://williammistele.com/ as William Mistele seems to gear his flavor of practices in a more "watery" oriented way, as opposed to some of the more "fire" oriented aspects (drawn from yoga) espoused by Bardon and other occult writers from the west.

IM by no means his biggest fan... like I said, he was pretty much a jerk on a personal basis (from the sources, it seems); but I dont think he ate babies and tortured puppies. Although there is a story of him killing a cat, which i find very disturbing, as I like animals, especially cats.

I was really into his stuff a while back, but much of the western "magick" stuff is very much in the HEAD. Like memorizing all the Kabbalistic correspondences... ugh!

I'd rather do some qigong.

Still, I do live in my head a lot so I am drawn back to that stuff a lot. Like this am, spent my morning free time reading The Baptists Head instead of doing any physical exercise...

And I have heard good things about Franz Bardon. Been meaning to check him out.
