Cordyceps : Zombie Fungi

Recommended Posts

First thing that I think of is the cordyceps used in TCM. They're on the rise along with use of other herbs.. May or may not bare much significance, being it's another species.

But this video makes a Zombie Apocalypse alot closer then expected, or a threat to life.

Here's the video.

I find is pretty erie, although intriguing. Wondering at the end, but not sitting in wonder.

Check it out.

Hey neichuan,

the cordyceps that is mass produced for use in chinese medicine and available on the internet is grown under artificial conditions, no insects are harmed in it's manufacture. :)

The wild harvested stuff in lazy's link is crazy expensive, 1 kilogram of wild-harvested Cordyceps costs about $250000 ...ouch :o

No wonder those kids were skipping school to go find the stuff...there's gold in them hills

Backpacking in Nepal may be an idea. :D

I have never tried the "real" ones. I use the Nevada grown ones

for about 2 months each year.

Something similar happens to certain human ethnicities, Indonesian in this case:

"1. In November 2007, a new video of a 34-year-old Indonesian man named Dede Koswara with a similar disease appeared on the internet. His story has appeared in the Discovery Channel and TLC series "My Shocking Story" ("Extraordinary People" on UK's Five) in the episode "Half Man Half Tree".

2. In 2009 the Discovery Channel episode "Treeman Meets Treeman" reported on another Indonesian man, from the same region as Dede, who also has the disease and was given a similar treatment for it."

Source: wikipedia/epidermodysplasia verruciformis

The video about cordyceps stated that "there are thousands of different types of cordyceps fungi and each remarkably specialises on one insect species." In the case of the Indonesian victims there are similarities with the cordyceps-insects infection.
