What are your favorite movies (or tv series)?

What movies have really inspired you to practice?

Which movies inspired you to start and which inspired you to go deeper, and go back to the mat?

Thanks for all the input :-)

Once in a while I'll get into a nightly binge of Dexter. Jet Li's Fearless and then Bruce Lee movies sometimes inspire me to do more conditioning and working on my kicking more.

The old T.V show Kung-Fu with David Carradine is a complete classic that I absolutely loved watching when I was younger. It really shows how someone can be a warrior of true peace and compassion. I think this show really put the love of asian ideology into my subconscious and helped lead me to the path of internal alchemy along with continually trying to be a being of love and compassion. Also the Dragon Ball and DBZ series are not only super fun to watch lol, but also have very cool depictions of chi power, energy development, meditation, connectedness with the universe and more. I personally found that together, both these fun shows helped shape my belief on spirituality and without them, I might not be writing on the Tao Bums forum right now. Interesting thought isn't it

Well when I watched Star Wars as a kid, it really opened me up to the idea that there was "something more" in the universe. It's also good motivation to practice when I go back and watch it, or read/play stuff from the expanded universe.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (tv series) also had a lot of cool stuff in it, from martial arts to meditation to energy work, which gives a lot of good motivation.

inspired 86 months of daily practice, and counting :)

Buffy? Really? How come (serious question)? I think I saw only one episode but I don't remember anything remotely related.

None really. Though among the many that are inspirational, I can relate to Waking Life for my lucid dreaming, and star trek for everything else.

Arrested Development was my favorite show of all time, but didn't motivate me.

Avatar the last airbender motivated me to master the elements and have glowing eyes when I got pissed.

boy in striped pajamas really got me to lol.

well all the movies I watch are just another piece of the puzzle, just like reading a book. If I can use anything from the experience of either then it was Totally worth it.

So, so far we have:

Dexter

Jet Li's Fearless

Bruce Lee movies in general

Kung-Fu with David Carradine (this seem to have inspired many)

Dragon Ball

DBZ (which I gather is a re-mastery of Dragon Ball)

Star Wars

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Buffy

Waking Life

(Arrested Development) In parenthesis as it was appreciated but not found inspirational.

The boy in the Striped Pijamas

Naruto

Gattaca

Lord of the Rings

A Man for All Seasons

Braveheart

Elizabeth

Kiss of the Dragon (Jet Li at his best)

Lion King (one of my favorites)

Kung Fu Panda (a very Taoist movie)

Samurai Champloo (very good series)

Schindlers List

Captain Picard from Star Trek The Next Generation

Music and Life from Alan Watts.

I will add to those

A Razors Edge from 1946, not because it inspired me but because it inspired a Taoist Master you all know ;-).

While for me I was inspired also from

Kung Fu with Carradine.

But more recently also from

Hikaru No Go

Anything else?

"POWDER" The movie (1995). Exceptionale!

Lines from it:

Powder: "She didn't go someplace.. your wife. I felt her go. Not away, just out... everywhere."

--------------------------

Lindsey: Its hard to believe that, all of that.

Powder: Its because you have this spot that you can't see past. My grams and gramps had it, the spot where they were taught they were disconnected from everything.

Lindsey: So that's what they'd see if they could? That they're connected?

Powder: And how beautiful they really are. And that there's no need to hide, or lie. And that its possible to talk to someone without any lies, with no sarcasms, no deceptions, no exaggerations or any of the things that people use to confuse the truth.

Lindsey: I don't know a single person who does that.
