Scared about my heart

I know that in Taoism, control of blood flow is one of the practices.

 

More recently, I've started to feel my heart beat. It started as occasionally, and now more frequently, despite my mind.

 

I get very anxious and fearful when I feel it beat, in other places when i feel blood pump it isn't as alarming, but it really causes stress in my mind when I feel it in the area where my heart is.

 

I already went to a doctor, and he checked for high blood pressure - it wasnt that.

 

I want to know what you can recommend to me to ease my reaction to this and allow it to be, allow myself to sense it with less resistance.

Next you can try an acupuncturist.

 

People here aren't going to be able to give you good recommendations, because we can't diagnose you. Plus a lot of us speak like we know more than we do, and we might actually hurt you.

Hello Awake,

 

Consider having an ECG and based off those results maybe even an echo-sonograph. (Cardiology Department)

I can tell you now that this can be hereditary or anxiety and stress induced.

Funnily enough the same could be said for almost any dis-balance : )

 

I know the sensations you are experiencing and it's an annoying disturbance.

 

However, If you get quiet enough in body and mind you will naturally feel your heartbeat, also during excitation. So it's perception is not always related to a condition that should worry you, but it's best to check things out, this way you will know what is going on and after a *cough brute diagnosis some of us here more competent on the matter may be able to provide some less invasive advice to help remedy the situation.

 

Go ECG >> SONOGRAPH to make sure it's all good.

PS: The reason for my palpitations were adrenaline during anxiety attacks, living in a hostile environment. So moved to a new country and started meditating, all gone now : D

What Scotty said is good advice. But, to go out on a limb here since I have experienced the exact same thing... I do feel that it's trapped emotions, pain, sadness and such that you are becoming aware of, basically all that pivots upon fear. If you can clear your heart consciousness, your emotions through practice, I feel this will go away, as this is my experience. I do also recommend some sort of energy or acupuncture healing, of which I have done both with successful outcome.

I had the exact same thing many years ago, and was really scared and conscious of my heartbeat at all times, wondering if something was wrong. Nothing was, but I went and saw a cardiologist to get cleared, and literally as soon as my mind was eased, it all went away. Go see a cardiologist. I'm sure you're ok, but you won't be at ease until they reassure you. I'll bet that's all you will need to do. If you want to do more, do the TCM and energetic stuff after the cardiologist has said ok. If you don't see the heart doc, there will be some doubt at the back of your mind no matter what you do. :)

Yeah not all doctors are alike. Seeing a specialist is always a sure way to know you aren't just throwing away your money...because if you go to a family doctor or something, you will get a huge bill for inadequate care. At least get a huge bill for adequate care.

The times that happened to me I just went to the E.R. and pleaded indigent. I got all the care I need in order to understand that it was psychological and not physical. Though over time, I'm sure it could become physical if one's psychological state kept putting stress and tension there?

I would recommend pretending that the space of the heart is filled with love, peace, and relaxation and breath contentment into your chest as a practice, even using your hands over your heart. That works for me.

I worked in cardiac nursing for a long time. I have worked with patients with all kinds of heart conditions from heart attacks, to heart failures, to irregular heart beats, to transplants to open heart surgery for blocked vessels.

 

Getting advice on a forum is not going to help other than know that people support you. There is so much info one would need to know that is missing from your report to give you pertinent advice.

 

I can tell you that there are some higher esoteric cultivation practices that incorporate learning to listen to the heart beat and then repeat a phrase with each heart beat to bring in a certain quality to meditate upon.

 

If the problem you perceive is because you now can hear and feel your heart beat I would point to that you are becoming more sensitive to feeling your body. That is a good thing. Some day you will be able to feel your liver and kidneys and so on.

 

So when you listen to your heart beat use a phrase or mantra with the beat. "I am peace," works well. So each time your heart beats, time the phrase "I am peace," with it.

I wonder if the Buddha saw a cardiologist before he attained Nirvana. :lol:

 

It's his freakin' heart, you silly man. He should see a cardiologist. Being a fundamentalist TCM'er, how would you tell if he had a lethal problem with arrhythmia? Even young athletes die of Sudden Cardiac Death. Are you prepared to diagnose and treat that?

I think there has been a lot of good advice on here. 1. Cardiologist, 2. Acupuncturist, 3. Your probably just becoming more senstive to what was already there. All those things have been already said and I agree with all of them, and though I'm not a pro so don't take this too seriously my intution tells me its probably 3. but I'd still start with 1. to rule out any possiblity of a more serious problem. ;) good luck

Qigong practice can make someone more aware of their body and what is happening inside of it. Probably just you becoming more aware of your body. I can count my heart beats quite easily just by sitting and paying attention. I've had my heart checked several times, as it is part of the medical exam required in order to get a work visa for China. Not failed any of those exams, so there doesn't seem to be any problem.

 

To be sure there aren't any problems, and to put your mind at rest, the very good advice of seeing a heart specialist has already been given. I would second that.

They burn their livers due to excessive fire (mind) which in turns backfires the heart itself, and then boom! They are gone.

 

I would suggest you to do a liver cleanse and calm down. Drink tea and chill and worry less about what others do.

Are you a TCM doctor with clinical experience, or are you just relaying theory that you have read?

I think this sort of discussions only serve to fuel my ego, which is not the case, but anyway I will stop.

 

So that would be, no, you have no qualifications in TCM and are not recognised by anyone. You have simply read up on the subject, dabbled a bit and believe your own publicity.

I myself had a heart arryhtmia, which I believe I inherited from my father. One day at the park as I was walking, I discovered I couldn't walk more than about four steps uphill without feeling like I had run the 660.

 

When I finally took myself to the family practitioner, they took my pulse and discovered it was about 133, did an EKG which confirmed arrythmia, and sent me to the emergency room. All this led after about 6 months to an ablation, where they go in through the leg veins with four catheters and zap nerves on the heart wall to interrupt the feedback that causes the arrythmia. Spent one night in the hospital because they worked on both chambers, and I'm good again, I don't have to take the digitalis that my father used for the last twenty years of his life.

 

For the most part, I can't sleep on my left side now, because the heart beat is very loud if I do. Seems like I have more feeling in the vicinity of the heart. I see a cardiologist, had an EKG last time around and everything is fine. Sometimes I am more aware of my heart now, and sometimes I wonder about the rhythm; what I do is take a quick pulse. It's amazing that the heart can seem arrythmic to me, and yet the pulse is just fine.

 

Of course, this is just one condition, and as everyone here on the forum says, there are 'way too many variations; Western science is pretty good at diagnosing many of them. My favorite practice lately, stay with the mind, and realize that the location of mind moves. It may go to your heart, it may go to your imbalance, it may go to your balance, it may feel like you are viewing the world from the back of your head, it may be that you are absorbed at a dark area roughly located at the tan-t'ien and shifting, it may be the seat of your pants, it may be a bluejay outside the window. Something like that, without exclusion.

The important thing here is this. There is a place for both Chinese and western medicine. The idea that one is better and should be followed exclusively is folly.

 

I will be having lunch tomorrow with someone who has more than twenty years experience in medicine, with degrees in both western medicine and TCM. His opinions are valid and worth listening to because he can recount the patients he has treated and the different methods he has used. He certainly doesn't believe that western medicine should be ignored.

 

I have witnessed my neigong teacher tell a patient that they should have surgery, and then come and see him afterwards for treatment.

 

From what I can recall, Michael Lomax posted on this forum one time about an experience his teacher, Wang Juemin, had. A woman came to the qigong hospital. Realising that she had bleeding on the brain, Wang Juemin had an ambulance called. The woman was taken to a hospital where she had surgery. Apparently she would have quickly died if not for the surgery.

 

No good doctor of traditional methods would ignore the benefits of western medicine.
