I used to take Long Jack & Tribulis stack, great for energy and sexual performance but I found my blood

pressure was raised and often had headaches and pressure in my head. I take cordyceps for immune system and gladular health as well as Cod Liver Oil which also increases testosterone.

I took a few of the products from Biotest that include the herbs you mention. Definetly felt alot of energy but I don't think it is suitable or helpful for cultivation long term.

If your using them for workouts or sex maybe but make sure to be careful. I had problems with excess Yang energy and becoming overly agressive. If I made my living as a proffesional athlete or porn star I could see how it would be very helpful :)

I probably did very little zazen/meditation while on those products also. actually, John Daido Loori once said something funny that high testosterone levels are part of the problem here on Earth. Of course, we Taoists can make use of just about anything and it's more about balance rather than something being "good" or 'bad". So I think it is really an individual situations. Perhaps soemone with very low testosterone levels would find tribulus or Long Jack helpful.

T-nation has tons of articles on this I would go there for info(though they are probably atleast somewhat bias towards those products being very good)

I'll stick with theanine and green tea .I need to mellow out more not go to war;)

What can be found within is what is important. Sometimes external elixirs might make sense depending on where one is. For some, they work well and for others, it will prove unfruitful. Perhaps it is better for us to pay attention to what is coming to us and using intuition to follow what is right for oneself.

With that said, I have found that the Red Reishi Mushroom or also refered to as the herb of immortaility, is looking to actually help a male adept to decrease testosterone levels.

I read recently that for a man to become enlightened, he must become like a woman (energetically speaking).

So sense you asked for opinions, those are things that come to my mind.

All the Best!

I'm wondering if these products are actually replacing the lost jing faster or is it something that can eventually lead to some kind of burnout...because, yeah, being a professional athlete and porn star feels pretty good..

I think that's true to some extent if you sublimate your sex drive..more details to follow..

These yang tonics are basically stimulants; they excite, bring to the fore, the energy that you have stored in you (yin). The usual, more basic, problem with men is that we already stimulate too much; we can't stop. So, we burn out our yin (reserves of energy), and then have difficulty being yang enough (cause our yin is depleted) and go looking for stimulants so we can feel all yang again. .. which will just deplete us more.

If we could learn to stabilize a bit better, we'd never get in such a wretched situation. Not an easy task for most men, and so the discussion goes on here and at HT.

Still, if you're going to take yang tonics, couple of things:

1. Do so sparingly, not too often.

2. Take yin tonics, nourishing herbs. Plato keeps pushing Ho Shou Wu, and he's right. It really is one of the best nourishing herbs (technically a blood tonic, but also known for nourishing kidney energy). In fact, I'd suggest starting a program of Ho Shou Wu first, for several weeks, and see if that doesn't solve your situation. Likely that you'll be nourished enough so that when you want to start your engines, the tank 'll be full and it'll all be good. But it takes some time to store yin. Yang tonics are more instant. Like, its easier (and faster) to spend than save.

Thaddeus,

So far all my little "Operation Yang" programs from herbs to sungazing to extremely active retention have crashed and burned... now maybe I'll try being a girl like Matt and Winn suggest...

I have best results with yang tonics if done occasionally. That way I can enjoy their rush but not get hinky.

I like your suggestion of cultivating the feeling of being a sexually active alpha male and that feeling is what our biology is driven to strive for so it creates a good inner tonic for the system. In reading "Our Inner Ape" we have two close primate relatives: the chimps and the bonobos. The Chimp alpha male burns through his yang quickly out of stress, tension, and paranoia. Viking kings usually died before 31, and chimp alphas don't last long either--fun while it lasts, but unsustainable. Bonobo culture is actually ruled by the females, with not nearly as much fighting, the reigning alpha female can stay on top for more than just a year or two, and the book suggests that our genital size seems to indicate that humans are more naturally on the bonobo side of the equation--more lovers than fighters but that we are flexible and can operate on the extreme fringes of yang and yin behaviors.

Nice thread!

Awesome analogy..

In addition, the best Yang tonics I have taken are Dragon Jing and Gecko Rockclimber from Dragonherbs. The Biotest formulas with Tribulus and Eurycoma(Long Jack) are very powerful but I found too Yang to be taken long term. The Dragonherbs formulas(especially Dragon Jing) are quite Yang but still feel balanced. And just like Kieth says Teeguarden says to take yin tonics like He Shou Wu to supplement yin. I usually have a couple bottles of Dragonherbs Super Shou Wu in my kitchen for whenever I feel the need for more Yin.

Tao in a Bottle is a shen stabilizing formula Shou Wu is a jing tonic.

"Tao" is my favorite if I only took one of his products that would be it. Also, I think regular qigong practice takes care of alot of the jing and qi develoment(along with meditation).

Jing tonics are probably less and less necissary if you practice cultivation/do retention etc whereas Tao I find to be very helpful toe very day life awareness, stress reduction etc.
