Unethical advertisments on the Bums

Recommended Posts

I have a huge, huge problem with the fact that there are adverticements for scientology and for hypnotizing people without them being aware of it themselves on the Taobums site. It pops up from time to time. Scientology is a brutal cult that rips people of their money and puts them in debt. Just research a little bit on the net and you will find that out or yourself. I thin thetabums should not such things.

Hi markern, yes, can confirm personally that CoS is a mind control, money making cult.

And BTW, LRH had some questionable companions when he started into his occult

research....His Magickal Career

Hi Spirit Ape, agree that in retrospect it was an experience in which a wiser soul would not get involved, but having learnt from it, and hopefully wiser, it would not be compassionate for me to take the attitude you suggest.

Whatever anyone thinks of Crowley, it is very telling that he considered LRH a nut and pegged him for a conman just from reading letters about him....

Crowley rarely had nice things to say about people.

Someone I met online said that their parents used to take LSD with LRon and that his drug experiences played a major role in the creation of the organization .

That's just how it is with Google ads. Google decides what ads belong on which web sites by matching the content. If they have decided that Scientology ads belong on Tao Bums then it must be because they think people who come here are likely to be interested in it and they can prove it.

Not exactly.

Each company can buy to link his ads with certain words and words combinations.

The company that offers more for that string (word combination) gets it.

In this way words that are irrelevant, hardly used, cost less.

Words that are common, with a huge traffic, cost much more.

While this system works fine for google, and it is quite fair toward the companies, it has the negative effect that there is little control google or the website owners can have over the ads appearing.

What you are describing is more similar to the system used by Amazon. Now, that is more fair. But unfortunately AMazon does not offer advertisments for third party.

The fact that a word is linked with an advertisment has been a problem before. I don't remember the details but there was a car brand that started advertise when someone was making a google search on the name of a competitor car brand name. They sued, and lo and behold, they won!

I don't know how google managed that situation after.

In any case for what google can control, if someone discovered that taoists being into celibacy, and similar, are probably an easy target for porn ads, you would find all sort of adult ads appearing. (actually I am not sure, there might be an "adult" filter, but you got the idea).

Scientology people have simply paid more than everybody else to have their ads appear on people who speak about taoism, meditation, and anal-breathing.

Honestly there isn't much that Sean can do about that. He could take away the advertisments all together. But any other form of ad-hoc ads will require a huge invest in time.

Actually, in his diaries and other texts he spoke quite highly of people he respected. He was simply equally harsh when speaking of those he thought were crooks, frauds or simple idiots.

It is quite amusing that "L Ron"'s religion is so anti-drug when he had a history of drug use and died with boatloads of psychiatric drugs in his system.

In reading Crowley I found very few people that he had nice things to say about, and a lot of slander about others.

But then the guy was a pedophile and a liar, so I don't think highly of him. Have you read his Autohagiography? I think that was his best work, though I have read most of what he wrote.

Liar? Perhaps at times, though not likely any more often than most. Pedophile? Where do you get that from? He was many things (and many of them not very admirable) but that is one that is something of a stretch.

Yes, Confessions was quite a read (years ago), and heavily imbellished. Much of his supposedly "inspired" works and his more technical guides are much more useful and most are very well done (admittedly much of it was information lifted from the Golden Dawn, but he streamlined a bulk of it). He spoke quite highly of a number of people he found accomplished (including himself). Though, as you have obviously noted, he spoke quite loudly about the flaws he very often saw in others (and, again, himself for that matter).

You can block Google ads by specific keywords, I think...

As for trademark ads, you can't place Goggle ads for trademarked items if you don't own the trademark. It's automated within the system, so your ads by default will not be displayed.

Some of Scientology ideas are not that bad... they put a lot of positive effort into reveling the dangers Psycho Drugs prescribed by psychiatrists Here is a pretty good documentary they made:

Their organization is pretty f.ucked up, no doubt. You can take anything positive what you can and leave the rest.

Anyone who wants to gain from what little there is in Scientology to benefit from would be far better off looking into the FreeZone, instead of the Co$. They keep all the practices, but drop the Org.

Some of Crowleys poetry, often written under a pseudonym, contains some obscene works, one theme that is in at least a couple of them involved some type of pedophilia. Sexual acts are also frequent topics his poetry, however the man had virtually no prohibitions or morality in any codified sense and was prone to experimentation of many natures that would normally repel most people, including animal sacrifices even when rather young, which he mentions in his writing on his life.

If the adds help pay for the site then I am in favor of them i suppose, but I don't like the history of Scientology either.

They must have added this after the trial, then.

Not that I pay much attention, but it seems like the banners adds have recently changed (thick black theory and some other thing with a couple embracing on it) Upgrade perhaps.

I heard L. Ron Hubbard created Scientology as a bet between him and another scientist. The bet was to create a religion and see how many people would actually believe it. L.Ron Hubbard obviously won the bet. He wanted to come public with the truth, but was approached by those who felt so strongly about the religion, that he couldn't come clean.

hahaha

Peace,

FYI, Adsense publishers can block any individual ad if they choose to do so.

Absolutely. Imagine you have a commercial site and your concurrents adverstising on your site. That's not possible. So you can ask Adsense to block URLs of your choice.

Heres an interesting quote about ALL spiritual advertising in history ever!!!

Q: But other teachers, like J. Krishnamurti, describe a journey of discovery, that through awareness and free inquiry one can find out ...

U.G.: There is no transformation, radical or otherwise. That buffoon (referring to J.K.) talking in the circus tent there offers you a journey of discovery. It is a bogus charter flight. There is no such journey. The Vedic stuff is no more helpful. It was invented by some acid-heads after drinking some soma juice. J.K. is more neurotic than the people who go to listen to him.

U G Krishnamurti, Mind is a Myth, C.1

Not my opinion so don't shoot the messenger ;)

U G means SOMA juice. He mentions it a many times in his conversations, he also says that a lot of what was written was actually peoples ambitions rather then what they actually had achieved. i. e. a fabrication.

Actually, you are "mis-remembering" his speak at a science FICTION writers convention. There he stood before other writers and said that writing for pennys a word (they were basically paid by the character then) ws stupid. That if a man really wanted to make a million dollars he would start a religion, that is where the money is. Around a year later he published Dianetics, which would be the foundation of Scientology.

"L Ron" was not a scientist.

When he wrote the higher OT levels (like the stuff with Xenu) he wrote that the teachings shouldn't be restricted, but he himself kept things quite concealed from all but the highest in his inner circle. One example was the fact that he was using a high number of psychiatric meds before he died, despite not allowing others below him to us any of them. He was anything but a benevolent man by all accounts.

That's how I remember the story going. The book Cults of Unreason painted a pretty dark picture of him. Critics and ex-members were attacked by any means possible, usually harassing lawsuits. I think they've mellowed out since then, but the best expose is still South Park's :).

Back on subject.

This site and the internet as a whole gives out so many things freely, so I don't get too upset over the light visual spamming that goes on here.

If you see a nasty ad and you are also endowed with inhuman motivation to prevent it, what you can do is very very carefully right click on the link (do not click the link) and select Properties (in IE and Firefox). Then in the dialog that pops up, select the entire huge ass link there and PM me that. I can specifically blog ads from certain domains from showing up, bother otherwise Pietro explains the situation very accurately.

Best,

Sean

"The Tao that cannot etc etc..."

"In the beginning..."

Nice one.

Edited for punctuation.

If people are stupid enough to get involved into that stuff then they deserve it!!! :o

don't think so. ignorant people do not deserve to be punished by things like that.
