  2. Hello, I am wondering where to begin on understandings the basics of yin yang energy flow, like where does it come from, where does it go, in what order, etc. etc. etc. I have felt both the energies move within me, but I would like to delve deeper and understand their natures truthfully. Please let me know if anyone can point me in the right direction in a simple way...
  3. Greetings and Salutations

Hello! I study Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and found this forum by asking google if Vladimir Nabokov ever studied daoism because he is quoted as saying โ€œDoes there not exist a high ridge where the mountainside of scientific knowledge joins the opposite slope of artistic imagination?โ€ This quote made me think of yin and yang and the Chinese words representing a mountain with the sunny side and the shade or dark side represented. Of course, anyone who has absorbed mountain peaks may be struck with the idea of the whole being made of at least two distinct sides. And the forum made me introduce myself in order to read more. So here I am.
  4. Yin and Yang separate 'things'

Do you experience that Yin and Yang are separate 'things'? Any more, I see them not as separate, or opposing things, but as the expression of Tao, interpreted as varying degrees of polar extremes and appearing separate based on a perspective, which is shaped by human senses and cognitive filters of family, culture, etc. For some time now, I have not been able to reconcile any 'things' that are separate. The ten thousand things... are they separate? For me, where I am now, it seems not. They are more like facets to the gem of the expression of tao source and each facet may have the strong illusion to my senses of being separate, based on how I may perceive it in a given moment, yet remain unerringly part of source, never separated from it, nor independent of it. And for the record, I have no intentions of deleting or modifying anyone's statements in conversations I initiate, ever. If something breaks the rules of the forum, I'll let the mods handle that. Speak your mind freely in any thread where I am the OP, please... how else do we get to the solid potential truths if we don't wade through some muck?
  5. Hello everyone! My question is - what concepts does one need to accept to call himself a Daoist? My answer would be simply - "The Dao produced One, One produced Two, Two produced Three, Three produced ten thousand things." My understanding is that that metaphor denotes periods of creation in the Universe. Dao = Primordial being One = Existence Two = Yin, Yang Three = Yin, Yang and Qi, however, this is disputed Ten thousand things = Everything that is Am I right or wrong? So accepting those basic concepts: Dao, Yin-Yang, Qi and perhaps the Three Virtues (compassion, humility, moderation), one can call himself a Daoist. There is also the difference between philosophical and religious Daoism, which sounds like a Western misconception. I believe every Daoist is partially both religious/spiritual and philosophical. I sincerely doubt that Daoists agree with everything Lao Zi, Zhuang Zi or Lie Yukou said. What are your thoughts? How would you define the basic concepts of Daoism and how would you define a Daoist? Thanks in advance!
