  1. I was wondering if any one knew about the effects of amanita muscaria if one practice tai chi and/ or Taoist practices. I know that most drugs are yin base so unless you are practicing magick you cannot take it, but amanita muscaria seems different because it seems to access the subtle energies. I want to know if anyone has taken amanita muscaria and knows if you lose your chi from it?

  3. I've heard a few people say something about how full lotus helps when conserving jing/sexual energy. I see absolutely no reason why a particular sitting position would do this but then again I'm not all that knowledgable on the subject so I really don't know. Anyone know if there's any truth to this and if so can you elaborate?
  4. Taoism vs. Daoism

From what I've gathered Taoism and Daoism are basically the same thing; just different translations of the Chinese word. I've heard a few people say they are a little bit different though. Are they?
  5. Does anyone know of a source, in print or online, for finding Taoist mantras and sutras, especially those for particular deities? Preferably in English, but latinized Chinese would be okay, too (both would be best!). Thanks!
  6. Home Taoist Altar

I'm considering making a home Taoist altar, but after doing a thorough internet search, I can't find out much information about what to use and then how to use it (chants, etc.). If anyone knows about these things I'd appreciate any information that you may have. Thanks in advance
  7. What is the official terminology for the spiritual eye in Taoist literature? Where can I read more on the Taoist interpretation of this vision? My interpretation of the spiritual eye, which may be wrong or superficial. "The Trinity is reflected as spiritual-physical feature in the physical self, since it is seen as the spiritual eye, a tri-colored pattern of a golden circle surrounding a field of deep blue with a five-pointed star in its center. This is a reflection of the life-energy that enters the medulla oblongata, the negative pole of ego-consciousness, and is seen in the positive pole located between the eyebrows. The golden circle is the higher astral sphere of consciousness, the blue field inside the circle is the sphere of Christ-consciousness and the white center star is the highest sphere of God-consciousness. When this spiritual eye is beheld imperfectly, it is seen as a dim violet light with a faint surrounding circle and center dot."
  8. All right guys and gals, I have to ask you this: Do we have "taoist immortal lovers" on board, a loving couple which practices taoist alchemy together with the goal to raise up together and exist forever in happiness as immortal lovers in the realm of the taoist immortals? ...one of my not so obvious traits is that I'm pretty romantic, haha! And I think this would be a pretty awesome goal to achieve.
  9. Hey dudes, I've read enough frustrating threads where there are big misunderstandings because people use old cryptic terms like "jing", "shen", "yin", "yang", "yuan chi", "immortality" and so on. In different schools and lineagues there are different understandings of these terms which eventually lead to strong misunderstandings and this prevents a mutual understanding and a fruitful discussion that could further a deeper understanding of the truth that lies behind the goals and methods of those old traditions which are occupied with achieving "immortality". Some guys even just want to mesmerise other people by indulging in cryptic terms and statements, which only prevents any progress at all. Therefore I want to "cut the crap" in this thread and want to try to analyse with you guys/gals the goals of and the methods that lead to immortality of the different traditions from a modern pov, in modern terms and with logical understanding to carve out the similaries of these different traditions to be able to conclude a synthesis which explains logical in modern terms what immortality is and how it can be achieved. ("Cryptic" terms can be used in this discussion, but please make sure to explain them appropriately, so everyone can understand what you mean! This thread is thought to lead to further and deepen understanding, not to spread mysticism!) Let me try first: 1) What does the traditions mean with "immortality"? Immortality means the survival of the conscious functioning personality forever and beyond bodily death. So this seems not to be a given in the theories of these traditions compared to the theories in the abrahamic religions for example! This goal means either that the personality survives in some sort of stable personal energy field that will "hold it together" or that the person's body doesn't die or that the person even transform its body into energy and includes this energy to create "a stable energy field". Other traditions claim that the conscious personality could "endure" when it fuses with a greater energy energy field that permeates the universe ("tao"). 3) What happens to people who don't achieve that goal? Their conscious personalities cease to exist, one way or another. This is the end result of a life-long leaking out or wearing down of the person's energy and usually happens at the point of bodily death. Some traditions claim that the conscious personality simply goes out like a flame (which could be compared to the dominating opinion of modern science) or that their energy scatters completely and therefore their structure get's destroyed, others claim that they get born again as other persons or animals with a wiped out memory. Other traditions claim that only a "downgraded" version of the personality survives death as a "ghost" who is very limited in its cognitive functions. 2) Why and how do the traditional methods actually work or are supposed to work? The "energy" of a person is thought to be limited and to leak out via sexual activities, mind activities and simply all activities in life. Therefore the traditions have developed their theories of how to stop the leaking out (via methods of "consolitation" of energy) and of how to refill or restore the stock of energy a person has to the level of a newborn or even beyond. "Consolitation" of energy would mean for example to store energy in a closed room (like "tantien") or to fuse different volatile energies which tend to "evaporize" or "leak out" to a more stable energy ("the fusion of shen and jing", "kan & li") or to a primal precurser source energy of these energies. "Refilling" or "restoring" energy can include "reversing" the energy flow from out to in to bring in outside energies into the personal energy field or by the transfering of matter into energy and infusing it into the personal energy field or stock. Please share your own insights and opinions! The more these are thought through and explained in modern terms, the more helpful and understandable these will be for the other participants of the thread!
  10. Hey guys! Lately, I've been struggling about what my belief falls under. I have made a post in my introduction to this site that stated this question, and I will quote it below: I've been looking things up and it is pretty confusing. I also associate myself with atheist pages on facebook and they do say I can be a Buddhist Atheist but not a Taoist Atheist because apparently Taoists look up/worship deities? Also while I'm at it, I do have a question regarding homosexuality. What is the general view of homosexuality to Taoists? I will struggling following a belief that condemns love. I know Buddhism is rather alright with it albeit there is no firm statement about it. Thanks in advance!
  11. What is the most accurate (most 'chinese-like' the way Chinese understand it) translation of Chang Tzu? Can someone link me to it on Amazon, B&N or ABE? Thanks

  14. Taoist Kunlun Mountain School, Dayan Wild Goose Qigong One of the most famous qigong schools in modern times is the Taoist Kunlun mountain school of Dayan Wild Goose Qigong. Dayan Qigong began to be developed in the Kunlun Shan mountains which are to the west of China and north of Tibet, during the Jin Dynasty 1800 years ago. Since Kunlun Shan is traditionally a place of great spiritual power, the inhabitants of the Kunlun mountain range were Daoist monks, and they shared Kunlun Shan with the Bar Headed Wild Geese, which are also spiritual symbols and birds of great ability and longevity. The monks would observe how the birds moved, lived, rested, recuperated, etc. and they began developing exercises and movements based on how the bar headed geese behaved. The monks combined their knowledge of Chinese medical principles and spiritual meditation with the bird's natural movements to create an extremely powerful, graceful, and natural system of healing and exercise. The wild goose system was inherited by the 27th lineage holder Grandmaster Yang Meijun who began learning at 13 years of age, from her Grandfather who had learned it from a Taoist monk from Kunlun mountains. Info on Kunlun Shan mountain range, including some of the largest mountains in the world Kunlun Mountains - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Dayan Wild Goose Qigong was kept secret, taught only from teacher to disciple once per generation. The 27th generation lineage holder was Grandmaster Yang Meijun. Her life was legenary, she lived in a very difficult and dangerous China, and yet still lived to be 108. She could see a person's Qi, and she could emit 5 types of flower fragrance energy. She could easily emit energy to make a person shake. She could see and receive messages and read thoughts from a long ways away, as her sky-eye (3rd eye), and sky-door (at the top of the head) were opened due to practicing every night with her grandfather at 3:00 am. One time, I think during war, she was buried alive by soldiers. She used her abiltiy to use very little oxygen and to breath through her skin and pores. They thought she was dead, so they buried her alive rather than kill her. When they left she was able to dig her way out. After the cultural revolution Grandmaster Yang Meijun decided it was the right time to make Wild Goose Qigong known to the world, and she began to open up and teach publicly. It is so cool how these are movements of developing energy, and cultivating the bodies functions and systems, based on the movements of the Bar Headed Goose. The Bar Headed goose is a very special bird. It is a symbol of lengevity. It can fly higher than any other bird I know of, and travel over 1000 miles in a day. The Bar Headed goose has been seen flying over Mt. Everest. The ancient Taoists of Kunlun Shan knew the special significance of these birds, and mimicked the methods of energy development that the birds performed naturally and instictively. Some people may not be aware that animals naturally and instinctively are practicing Qigong all the time. it is only humans that need to learn, or re-learn, how to do it. Animals are already in tune with nature in their proper way. They can posses fierceness and strength to do things humans just can't. This is primarily due to their use of universal life energy from the universe. They know what to do and when, and they are aware of many things. They naturally open, close, and connect their acupuncture points in the way they move and the positions they sleep in for example.
