  1. Sorry if I hurt some sensibility if this is not the right place for my inquiry. I have been all my life seduced and spiritually fulfilled by the taoist understanding of phenomena related to Life and the Universe without really penetrating into any particular practice. Now I am approaching my 80th anniversary while in need to retrieve my physical and mental fitness. Right nowI am doing a basic Qigong routine but my goal is to develop a consistent Inner Orbit practice. I have found profuse instruction from Mantak Chia and others with many steps in the circulation of Qi, to other teachers indicating a very simple guidance with two steps breathing stages. I will appreciate your advise for an effective, not so intricate and meticulous Inner Orbit practice pointing the Qi or energy centers I have necessarily to deal with in order to activate the energy I need to be still healthy and aware. Thank you very much for your advise. Fer
  2. 2 steps forward and 1 step back

Hello all, I have been wandering around this site for quite some time and finally decided I need to join. Iā€™m not sure where to start but I feel frustrated. My teacher is a Kahuna master whom is also a teacher of qi. He is amazing and has taught me so much. He has also recently given me permission to teach. My issue is I became ill 6 months ago and with his help I was back to healthy again in no time. However, this past week all of those old problems (ills) have started to return. I thought I was done with this. A few things to note. - I have 2 young children and my daily routine has become less daily. I replaced it with yoga to prepare myself for full lotus position. - I know now this was a big mistake. My teacher has now left the country and I am a little lost. Any help?
  3. Rebirthing

Would like to know all people want to share about Rebirthing - stuff like reberthing and its conectiuon to qigong stuff (like the micro orbit - jing - qi - shen etc) stuff like - is it more powerful than qigong ? short range faster results than qigong ? long range ? what does it do qi wise ? why do you feel qi tingling all in the body when doing it ? when you finish do you need ot guide that qi to a certain location in the body like lower dantian ? everything people want to add about Rebirthing is welocmed
  4. Hi i read for some days about microcosmic orbit, jing, qi, sexual transmutation etc and im still very confused especially cause i read different stuff - would like to ask : * mainly what are the names of the "stuff" we convert when we do sexual transmutation ...... specifically what is the first thing we convert (what its name - is it pre heaven jing/ post heaven jing or something else ) ... and to what we convert it too is it to qi ? post heaven qi ? Zheng Qi ? ..... and what is the final goal of it after we converted it to the second thing (to bring it back to lower dantian from head ? to make it into void jing>qi>shen>void ? ... by the way the format of X>Z>Y>G>R is a real simple way that can make it very clear ) so would like to know what is the exact name of the "stuff" we are converting - meaning if its post heaven jing than write post heaven jing and not just jing , or if its yin qi or yang qi than write that and not just qi... and what is the exact stuff that it needs to be converted to through its stages including what is the final final stage it goes by ** I would love long replies that explain in detail it all (including the whole microcosmic orbit etc) .... but before that part i would love a section before that explains just the names of the stuff we convert - cause i mainly ask this question cause in different places they say different names (even by Taoists not other traditions even) and its confusing its not the same thing *** i would love as much different people here to reply to me with their view
  5. What is the difference between jing and qi ? im asking cause im confused a bit about it - i used to hear that jing is something you have from birth and you should try to preserve it and when you get old you are slowly loosing jing yet recently i asked here how to not get wet dreams (if i dont want to have sex or masturbate) and got an advice to turn jing to qi (if someone wants to add an explanation how i do that - can be nice) .... so by what i heared in the past it seems like a bad idea to turn jing into qi ... and if anything it should be the other way around ... would love to hear whatever info people can add on the subject of jing vs qi
  6. Apologies for a long winded post. I waned to enquire whether any of you have thoughts on combining strength training with internal arts? Let me explain what I mean by that. The style of taijiquan I practice emphasizes letting go of muscular strength (li) and rather use jin - I know different people/schools have different ideas about what jin is. In our system it is considered to be the power generated by accelerating Qi into the bone marrow and the lower Dantien. So we store power by condensing Qi into the born marrow - my Sifu says it is like burning gas to generate horse power. Eventually it is generated by directing incoming force into the LDT, which results in power/force rippling out like how a stone is dropped into a pool generates ripples. This ripple effect is capable of returning incoming force, and therefore ends up looking mysterious and woo woo. My experience is, that it took me a long time to get it to a point where it works, to drop my tendency to use physical strength (almost 20 yrs of daily practice now). There is a sense of freedom and relaxation, along with the sense of unbroken sheath of cotton or silk/satin under the skin. I think many of you know what Iā€™m referring to. Whenever I try to add physical conditioning to this, I feel suffocated; like the muscles develop in strength and begin to strangle the other type of ability generated in the body. So I stopped physical training several years ago. I revisit from time to time but give up after a few weeks because of what I described. As Iā€™m growing older, Iā€™m putting on more weight, as the metabolism is slowing down. I donā€™t think I can lose weight without adding some physical conditioning. What do the members on this group do? How do you balance your internal cultivation with physical conditioning?
  7. Here is a diagram from page 30 of the Zhonghe ji (äøå’Œé›†). http://repository.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/en/item/cuhk-44970#page/31/mode/2up (I couldn't get the image jpeg to load, it is a jpeg on the page but TDB's loader doesn't like the URL). The diagram has two parts, the right hand part is called, "verbal formula" (口čØ£) the left hand part is called "metaphor" (č¬å–»). On the right are three steps, at the bottom is the trigram kan (坎). On either side, it says, "When the body doesn't move, the jing coalesces/strengthens." (čŗ«äøå‹•ļ¼Œē²¾č‡Ŗå›ŗ). Then at the top, is the trigram li (離). On either side, it says "When the heart/mind doesn't move, the qi coalesces/strengthens." (åæƒäøå‹•ļ¼Œę°£č‡Ŗå›ŗ). There are 2 lines coming from the center lines on each trigram to right under the other, the one going from kan to li has a wu (ꈊ) the 5th tiangan (celestial stem), the one going from li to kan has a si (å·³) the 6th dizhi (earthly branch). On either side of the center it says daogui (刀圭) which means a tiny pinch (of medicine). Then the central trigram is qian (ä¹¾). On either side, it says "When the intent doesn't move, the shen spiritifies." (ꄏäøå‹•ļ¼Œē„žč‡Ŗ靈) or maybe, in keeping with leaving Daoist concepts transliterated, "the shen ling-ifies". On the left (metaphor) side, there are three corresponding circular diagrams representing the same thing: At top a white circle with black center (li), in the center a white circle (qian), and at the bottom a black circle with white center (kan). On the kan circle, above it, it says, "refine jing transmutes to qi" (錬ē²¾åŒ–ę°£) and on either side it says, "Inside the body is jing, inside yin is yang." On the li circle, above it, it says, "refine qi transmutes to shen" (éŒ¬ę°£åŒ–ē„ž) and on either side it says, "Inside the heart/mind is qi, inside the yang is yin." The center circle says "yuan shen" (元ē„ž). Above and below, it says, "refine shen returns to emptiness" (錬ē„žé‚„č™›). Each thing that must be refined and transmuted is done so by keeping the thing that holds it still. To transmute jing, this is the transmutation of kan, yang within yin, which is the jing within the body, it changes when the body is kept still. To transmute the qi, this is the transmutation of li, yin within yang, which is qi within the heart/mind, it changes when the heart/mind is kept still. To transmute shen, this is the transmutation of qian, the yuan qi, it returns to emptiness (shen becomes ling) when the intent is kept still. I have two questions: 1) ē„žč‡Ŗ靈. Ling is used as a verb, I think here it means that the spirit of the corporeal person becomes the ethereal spirit (returns to emptiness)? 2) Is it refining (bodily/after heaven) jing becomes original qi refining original qi becomes original shen (original being 元)? Or is it refining bodily jing becomes original qi, refining bodily qi becomes original shen, refining shen becomes ling and returns to emptiness? This is one of my favorite diagrams, I like the holding things still makes them change thing.
  8. Qi/Energy Practice Over Years

I signed up for this forum over a decade ago. At the time, I was studying both Buddhist and Daoist systems of practice. Over the years, my Daoist, energy, qi etc. based practices have changed, come and gone. My Buddhist practice has evolved quite a bit, but remains a steady core part of my life. I am wondering: for those who have engaged in energy-based practices long-term, what have you seen over the last decade or so? If you could beam back a transmission to your younger self, what would you say? What has worked and what hasn't? Have you discovered a simple, easy daily practice set?
  9. My newcomer post

Namaste friends, I have had this site bookmarked for a couple years and come here sometimes to read, tho recently had the urge to be more involved, so I made my account and am making this post now in the Newcomer section. What got me into Taoism was my instructor for Yellow Dragon Kung fu, he recommended some books on Taoist philosophy, and from there I had read more books and resonated with their content. Some of the books I like are the following: The Chronicles of Tao 365 Tao Fourth Uncle in the Mountain Bones of the Master Enter Mo Pai etc. Some of these books may not fall into the strict genre of Taoism (tho technically we can say everything falls into Taoism...) I got similar stories and vibes from all of these books, however. I look forward to discussing these subjects with all of you! Eternal Love & Light, Arya
  10. Let's Talk Heartfulness

I want to talk about my experience with Heartfulness. Now, I'm not talking about the form from Mindfulness in the book "Cultivating Heartfulness" that I've seen spoken about around Daobums, but something different that has completely changed the way I cultivate. Most of us are practitioners or at least know of the refining processes of cultivating and internal alchemy. We all know it to be an excruciatingly long and arduous process to refine our internal energies in order to produce measurable results. I have always been drawn to daoist practices from a young age and would meditate without even really knowing what it was, it just felt nice. But i didn't start officially Cultivating until just after college but i was underwhelmed by how little return you get for so much effort. I had processed far enough to have formed my Dantian and refined my senses enough to be able to detect spiritual energies and their movement. However, then i encountered a practice called Heartfulness that utilizes Yogic Transmission and this put my cultivation into hyperdrive! It would normally take me about two weeks to take in qi, extract the impurities, refine it into a higher form, and condense it into a pearl to draw up into the second dantian. But with Heartfulness, i was able to complete that entire process in One Day while i was At Work! I don't sit behind a desk, i work at UPS. I'm constantly moving and i was able to refine a pearl almost Passively while i was constantly busy. It felt like as long as i was doing Heartfulness, the energy would move Intelligently on its own to complete work within me, automatically. After a week of this, my body became stronger. I was able to walk around in 40 degree weather in shorts and a teashirt without getting cold and things that would normally hurt or bruise me would hardly hurt at all. I wanted to share this with my brothers here on Daobums so that you all could give it a try and share your results here! It's completely free, all the teachers are volunteers. https://heartfulness.org/us/masterclass/- This is the three-part video series that introduces the practice and helps you experience the transmission. https://heartfulness.org/us/experience-heartfulness/- You can follow this link and scroll down to ā€œTry Heartfulness with Assistanceā€ for a more personal experience with a real person rather than a video series, though I do recommend the video series first.

  12. Sanchin breathing kata

I'm blessed to have 2 dedicated & knowledgable karate teachers. one (SJ) primarily teaches us fighting. the other (SM) teaches us katas, tai chi & chi Kung (mostly katas, tho) as a traditional Goju-ryu stylist, he's asked us to get deep in "Sanchin breathing kata"(SBK). its a walking hard chi Kung form. SBK uses sanchin stance/slow movement/posture/abdominal breathing/opening the microcosmic orbit. i ask SM a lot of questions, study sanchin info online & study Taoist meditation books/sites/vids (mantak chia/dr yang). SM also instructs us in sitting and standing eight pieces of brocade chi Kung. i believe this is is to build our chi to move in daily life, during SBK & god forbid, if we have to defend ourselves. i'm wondering if any one on here has any experience w/Sanchin & it's benefits.
  13. Hi, I really like ASMR ( Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response ) videos and among the various youtube channels that make ASMR videos there is one that It ALWAYS make me "tingle" at the start, even when the audio is almost inaudible, it doesn't fail to give me a tingle. For example: So I am thinking...Perhaps it's possible to inprint some sort of "energy" on a video? Or her videos have some sort of very low frequency wich I find very comfortable with to trigger my asmr?
  14. Where is qi stored?

Yes, I know, stupid question, but I want to clarify some things. Normally its the lower dantien, but I stumbled upon some articles about the three treasures (jing, qi and shen). There, I read that they are stored in the lower, middle and respectively upper dantien. Can somebody explain this? (I'm pretty new to those elements som yeah...)
  15. Greetings

Hello The Dao Bums Feels like home here already. Almost like there's no use for words. I've had many great teachers, one of whom was a priest of the Quanzhen lineage. who have given me insight into the mysteries. Not the most strictly disciplined here myself, but have a lot of knowledge. Mystical experiences lead me to the Dao De Jing, and I am able to feel qi as magnetism between my palms. Went to Naropa University in boulder, co where I got a degree in Traditional Eastern Arts, Concentration Tai Chi Chuan. That is also where I met the priest. Im a quarter Chinese, my grandfather's jing. The Yellow Emperor's Y chromosome. Excited to talk and meet people here.
  16. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1353653 Detection of extraordinary large bio-magnetic field strength from human hand during external Qi emission It is generally accepted that more than 10(-6) gauss order magnetism was not detected in normal human condition. However, we detected 10(-3) gauss (mGauss) order bio-magnetic field strength from the palm in special persons who emitted External Qi ("Chi" or "Ki"). This detection was possible by special arranged magnetic field detection system, consisted of a pair of 2 identical coils with 80,000 turns and a high sensitivity amplifier. Each of the coils were rolled 80,000 turns accurately, and were connected in series in opposite direction, actuating as a gradiometer. We measure bio-magnetic field strength in 37 subjects with this detection system. The only 3 subjects of them exhibited strong bio-magnetic field of 2 to 4 mGauss in frequency range of 4 to 10 Hz. This magnetic field strength was greater than that of normal human bio-magnetism by 1,000 times at least. A simultaneous measurement of bio-magnetic field strength and its corresponding bio-electric current was examined in one subject. During exhibiting such strong bio-magnetism, its corresponding electric current was not detectable. Therefore, the extra-ordinary large bio-magnetic field strength can not derive from internal body current alone, hence the origin of the large bio-magnetism is still unknown. We suppose that the extraordinary large bio-magnetic field strength might be originated from "Qi" energy in the oriental medicine or in the oriental traditional philosophy.
  17. has anyone here been on retreats or met one of these guys ? http://www.pathgate.org/index.php/audio-teachings-by-lama-dondrup-dorje http://www.alexanderkrakolinig.com/about-me/ http://www.adlerin.at/kisem.term.php I'd like to try it for myself, also if you know other similar people that live in the EU (and have visited yourself) please drop a link or something. 18. Does anyone have any experience with convincing Reiki with Internal Alchemy and where the energy of Reiki falls in Dsoist modalities? I have my own thoughts as to what it is and where it falls but I wanted another opinion.
  19. I'm new to the game and I'm having difficulties establishing a firm daily practice. I understand the general concepts, but don't know the practicals. I'm more advanced in other forms of energy practice but I'm just beginning my journey into internal alchemy. 1) What's the fastest way to gather energy in the dantian? 2) How do you Cultivate Jing? Gathering Qi in the dantian is one thing but how do I generate life force? (jing) Or is it Jing that gathers in the Dantian... 3) I can sense energy, but I can't distinguish between the three types yet. Is there a practice specifically for enhancing sensing? Or is that just attained as you go kinda thing. 4) I'm trying to get used to reverse abdominal breathing but I can't get used to it. It completely disturbs my meditative state. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. It's different from "Reverse Breathing", right?
  20. New guy says hi!

Hello, I was referred here by a redditor after making this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/energy_work/comments/5fr8gs/whats_the_next_step/ I copied and pasted it below. I have high levels of energy which I meditate on and run through different circuits frequently. Some days I try to "burn" with my whole body at once all day long. I am familiar with rotating major and minor chakras on two axis of rotation, and the stimulating effects that has on the energy meridian pathways. I can feel where the meridians go and identify where acupressure and acupuncture points will stimulate. I can warm myself when cold and heal myself. During intense energy meditations, my point of awareness isn't at the third eye, it's wherever I'm focusing, and I can look around and see the energy fields of my body, the chakras, the meridians, the physical anatomy as well, and it's all dancing in all colors of the rainbow, and is accompanied by beautifully harmonious astral music. I don't believe I've had a full Kundalini experience, but when I do connect the tail of the snake through my root to the earth, or the "below", and run the head of the snake through my crown to the "above", it feels like going super saiyan, especially if I'm cycling with the whole universe, fully open, sending and receiving to infinity. Am I right in thinking that I should be putting more energy into the environment now? Feeling my surroundings and working energy with other people? So far I can put up a strong shield, I can "feel" people, whether they're close or far, and send them energy, having beginners identify the areas I send energy to and whether I'm sending energy or pulling energy. All information on energy work I've found thus far teaches how to do these things I've become familiar with, but on my own I've started to find things I haven't heard about before, like seeing the energy and hearing music. Does anyone know where I can progress from here? Any high-level books I could read? What else is possible?
  21. I have found the similarities between the Indian/Yogic/Vedic and the Daoist internal traditions extremely heartening. Here are two systems, both going back millennia in antiquity, having developed with some cross-pollination (via cultural exchanges in the early history/late pre-historic periods perhaps), but generally independent of each other during the formative periods (more than 5000 years ago). The one missing link was that the Indian system clearly categorizes Prana as having five constituent winds - Prana, Apana, Samana, Vyana and Udana Vayus. Each of these have specific roles to play in the human bio-energetic system (and the psycho-physiology as well). Then as I was reading Damo Mitchell's excellent book on Neigong (Heavenly Streams), I found a section that is pretty much articulated in this blog post as well -- http://www.scholarsage.com/five-elements-2/ light shen yi po zhi hun colour red yellow white blue green movement expansion division contraction sinking forwards element fire earth metal water wood The overlap (and biological functions of these) are stark with the Pancha Vayus. Good illustration is provided here -- http://sequencewiz.org/2014/09/03/5-vayus/ Would love more thoughts on this.
  22. Hi there, I'm a follower of the Eight Pieces of Brocade (Ba Duan Jin) system in Qi Gong. I'm self taught and have been doing this for almost 2 years. I earnestly try to calm my mind and sense the Chi running up my spine. Very occasionally it runs through my head and if I hold my tongue on my upper mouth I believe I can sense it running down back to the Dan Tien. The other line I've very definitely sensed is down my arm to my hand, especially if I'd done the "tapping" Qi Gong routine. So that's 2 of the 12 I have definitely sensed. How easy are the others to gain a "glimpse" of? Qi Gong gives me insights into my, or rather the human body, almost every day.
  23. Body Cultivation

Hi i am new to thedaobums and i was wondering if anyone knows how i can get access to body refining techniques that use qi. Such that uses qi not to gain muscles but to release impurities and make the skin tougher.
  24. Emptiness embodied

My teacher emphasizes emptiness. The feeling we get when we are doing taiji forms or qigong etc - that is emptiness. It feels like something, but perhaps it is the absence of something we feel. Thoughts?
