i look forward to this sub-forum each day. i start and end my day with it. so many wonderful commentators contributing to it. not to look too far ahead and with so many chapters left with this to cover. but after 81 chapters, i think it is 81? and only then i would hope a new sub-forum delving into chuang-tzu could begin. thanks you tao bums for the tao teh ching sub forum. not sure why you didnt already have one? but glad you waited on me to start visiting this site before you began it. ; ) hahaha

i am a simple minded creature. but how i like to look at the diference between knowledge and wisdom is that wisdom is the use of knowledge for it greatest good.

big dipper or pole star stepping is great stuff. i agree it came from taoists and may be more ancient than we can ever know. i have heard dong haichuan was one of 3 students from the same teacher. i have heard that li yuen while wandering thru the mountains looking for herbs while he was still a young man of 120 (which would be before dong haichuan was even born)was taught baguazhang by 2 very old guys. anyways it is great this beautiful and complete and deep! art is becoming more and more accessable.

i understand about being hooked on baguazhang. it is humbling and uplifting at the same time. as fascinated i am with taji quan and xingyi quan and i see great advantages to either of those systems , i can never get around to practicing much of them because i find myself always playing with the bagua... @kate , just out of curiosity which book?

i feel that whichever energy moving system anyone uses one must become adept in being able to lead the energy with their intent. also their intent is what defines the use of this energy i.e. for healing. it is usual that before one can heal another they have first healed themself. for me alot of this has much to do about feeling the energy. there is a basic diagnostic process and part of it is intuitive. at some point all of these systems overlap. the practioner must have understanding of what they are trying to accomplish.

do you practice taiji? i always recommend taiji even if i practice bagua. with bagua when i coil that is yin movement , when i uncoil it becomes yang. inhale is yin, exhale is yang. i wish to store all of my qi in the area just below my navel, close to my center of gravity. taiji gives birth to yin and yang movements.

i did some tm back in mid 70's/ i found results but it was my first experience with any type of sitting mediatation. focusing on one thing , like a candle flame for instance is beneficial. quieting the mind also beneficial. i do diferent type of meditation now and i probably should more often than i do. each session of meditation should give results, results are not always typical for each person.

@ramon25 somatics is our nervous system, right? some people think our nervous system = our spirit @cowtao the way i kinda agree @dawei a golden flower, maybe? @thelerner nature/truth @stigweard maybe it is a cup of tea what variety of tea are we sharing? @strawdog your view of the tao is almost exactly like my definition of wisdom knowledge, wisdom.enlightenment all diferent things enlightenment is not the tao either a common definition is it is the basic eternal principle of the universe @strawdog this is a very abstract and deep question . is anyone's answer wrong? yet the answers are not quite right , always seek the tao. what comes from the tao returns to the tao.
