  1. Hi I'm a newbie, I've started to get into Taoism only recently, and beside the confusion around lineages, efficient practices, light body, real/fake teachers, etc., something more foundamental isn't quite clear to me: what is the actual goal of cultivation and of Taoism more in general? I come from an induism background (I'm not indian, but I've been to India, had teachers, studied scriptures, practiced meditation, had great unexpected results, etc) and if you consider that tradition, even though nobody can't really describe well what Enlightenment is (for obvious reasons), at least a newbie can have some sort of idea. I mean it's also called with a name and a good description which is Turiya and Sat-Chit-Ananda. Then if you are lucky enough you experience what it actually means concretely, which is not a state of unchanging perfection where angels cuddle you and pay the bills for you lol, but of course it's pretty amazing compare to "before" so to speak. All this to ask you guys, what is the so called Enlightenment in the Taoist tradition? I'm asking this for 2 reasons: 1. I don't see the connection with endless cultivation, I mean to achieve what beside permanent peace, happiness, satisfaction? 2. If a person, as in my case (I'll spare you the whole story which started with a spontaneous kundalini awakening until the crown chakra and it happened out of the blue, but I've been extremely lucky and blessed, I'll be grateful forever), does feel, or "has achieved" if you prefer, permanent peace, happiness and satisfaction, what is the point of cultivation? I'm asking genuinely, these are not rhetorical questions. I see that basically in the end all traditions point to the same thing which is Pure Awareness, calling it with different names (Rigpa in Tibet, Nirvana in Buddhism, Dao in Taoism, Moksa/Turiya in Hinduism, etc.), so that's why I don't get the whole cultivation thing if you have to anyway "simply" dwell in this ever present Consciousness. Of coure there is no end to the Evolution, it would be naive to put a limit to the infinite, but I'd say it's much "higher" and healthy to be full of love, peace, compassion, kindness, etc. compare to being able to levitate, fly, light up things, or who knows what other siddhis there are... I hope I have been clear enough to give you guys the opportunity to shed light on. Thanks a lot! P.s. If you are wondering about my nickname, well yes I'm genuinely looking for a real efficient safe practice to see what light body actually means, especially if it improves compassion, kindness, love, etc. You are all welcome if you wanna share something
  2. The problem of language, especially when you write down something, is that it can be misunderstood very easily, for many reasons. However, with all conversations I've had in my life, of all sorts, whenever somebody asks me something, I'm used to answer to the questions, or otherwise I just say I have no idea, or that I'm not interested in that topic if that is the case. And I expect the same, especially when there are important or complex topics to be discussed. I've never tried to be deep, or to make bold statements, especially in the "spirituality area", if these are not backed up from my direct experience. Perhaps I have different habits and that's why for some people it may be normal to invest their time in certain answers, as if they figured out everything. Thanks for all your answers guys. Have a good one
  3. Maybe @ralis could add something to this conversation "What is Enlightenment in Taoism and the "goal" of Taoism concretely? Endless cultivation?"
  4. @Stosh Then maybe if you read the entire post, you would see I specifically said "I'm asking genuinely, these are not rhetorical questions" This is the last time I spend time answering you Stosh. I invite you to notice that anybody else like @nintendao @jadespear and previous replies were all constructive and helpful. Thanks again guys btw. You've actually been the only one who said nothing useful or on the topic of this discussion. If you can't notice that, what can I say... "starting out as if you have questions, and launch into instructions" I don't know what's in your mind, but if a person asks a question, this doesn't mean he/she has to remain silent, or he/she doesn't have to state something, or correct something, or give advices, especially if something is based on his/her experience. That is called freedom of expression as far as I know.
  5. I'm a newbie in thedaobums yes. This doesn't mean anything else. I actually see there are quite some people around here who enjoy wasting their and others time, basically saying nothing, or judging, or assuming, or saying things without any experience to back it up, to say the least. So I'm a newbie here, but I suggest the veterans like you @Stosh to invest their time and words better, because one of the good goals in life, and also in this place, is to help others. You must know that. Therefore please, if you have something useful to add to the conversation, it's awesome and all of us can benefit from that, otherwise a good silence is greater than many words. Your "just saying" and "should" and whatnot are not constructive for any type of conversation. And btw my answer (in particular the one I gave to @Limahong), as anything else, is based on my experience. That is like...how people normally do constructive conversations. Or are you used to "just saying" things based on nothing?
  6. Hi everyone, this is my first post, I'm glad I found this forum. It seems to me there is some confusion around light body/rainbow body and mostly how to develop it. Anyone cares to say something/give some tips and mostly to suggest some real practice to do that? I've been into other traditions and had lots of benefits to say the least, but I've never been into Taoism until recently. It seems there is more than a way to achieve light body in this tradition. Apparently it all comes around building up the energy in the 3 dan tiens. However, as I said and as far as I know, there are different lineages, drama, politics, and the outcome is that it's not clear at all what are the most effective practices to walk the path towards light body. It also seems this is a good place where to ask, so here I am! Of course the best scenario would be to find a good teacher, but as you know it's not that easy and there is a lack of taoist teachers, at least in Europe. I believe we could help each other though! Thank you!
  7. Sure, I agree and I'm grateful every single day to feel that way too. However you can't deny there are some differences between for example Ramana Maharshi and Eckhart Tolle, or between Jesus and Moji, I could go on... Moreover you can't deny there are certain phenomena as well as degrees of depth/abiding/consciousness, even though yes we all agree everything is energy/consciousness, etc. Otherwise we just use Advaita approach and we end the discussion in 1 second, with just one statement. That would be a very narrow perspective, especially once you have the experience of it because, if you are honest towards yourself and others, you recognize that even though everything is consciousness and you abide in Sat-Chit-Ananda, life goes on! And that's precisely the reason why a person, no matter how evolved he/she is, can always improve his/her way to behave for instance, to say the least. And that's precisely the reason why certain saints have some degrees of evolution and a certain behaviour, and others have different ones.
  8. Very well, now we are really talking, and things are getting interesting! This is a fascinating idea. When years ago a boundless ecstasy overwhelmed me, there was light as well. Due to the fact my physical body couldn't handle that ecstasy after a while (and I'll state that I'm pretty sure any physical body can't for long periods, at least at the current stage of evolution) I felt I was fading, so I had to lay down, and other stuff happened. However, I'm also pretty sure rainbow body didn't happen in that case for me. But, there may be some truth in what Ralis is saying, even though I feel it can happen even without going through ecstasy. The sky gazing is a tibetan practice as far as I know, it's super interesting to hear somebody who actually practiced it (and still practice?), now I don't recall the name of it though. I kindly and warmly invite you to discuss it, at least privately with me if you don't wanna do it in public. I can assure you my approach is different to say the least. P.s. I'm not surprised also jesuits are into that coz, as ralis said, they are known (even if I don't know a thing about them) for their perspicacity. And actually there is a connection with Jesus resurrection... @Pilgrim Thx a lot once again for all your inputs and for encouraging ralis to add more of his knowledge at the discussion @ilumairen Thx for that book input! @Taoist Texts It'd be nice if you could add some useful comments or share your experience. Otherwise you are just wasting time.
  9. @ralis lol I just tried to PM you but you can't receive messages. Thx for your response. You seem to know quite some stuff regarding light body and also the traditions where it's mentioned. Would you mind sharing in private (or even in public if you wish) some of your knowledge and/or practice and/or advices? thx a lot
  10. Thx a lot @ilumairen this is also a good and specific answer. And thx for the technical advice, very much appreciated. I dismiss what is generic yes. I'm more like "straight to the point" person, especially after years of practices, etc. And I recognize sometimes I'm demanding towards myself and others. If that is throwing a stone, then I'm guilty. I must say @thelerner did point to something specific like Kunlun, even though he wasn't much convinced. I've heard about Max, and I also don't know what to think to be honest. I'll research what you pointed out, thx again
  11. I'll message you, thx. Anything and anyone who feels to share is welcome! By practical I mean techniques which work energetically in you, through breath and/or mudras and/or movements, etc. Because I may be wrong, but you can't just visualize or imagine or hope or think to stuff in order to develop the so called rainbow body. It's... a thing... a real thing... I mean it also energy wise. Especially in tibetan buddhism. Are you looking for something similar @Taoist Texts or have any tips you feel to share?
  12. Yes in this sense I agree with you that this type of relations do help a lot, no matter the tradition where you come from/the tradition you resonate more with. I'm also interested to add a practical method if possible though Thanks
  13. Thank you very much, that is a good answer Fa Xin. And I'll follow your advice. Yes I've had couple of gurus in the past and had great benefits from each of them. Eventually you need to move on though, in my opinion and in my experience. And that is also what any guru would say. It's very interesting to see that also in Christianity there are certain ways to connect to "higher planes". About light body, yes I'd say it's something so also in my understanding (to higher degrees light takes over the physical body as it's happened to some saints in the past), although it seems there are also physical effects (feeling more energy coming from middle and upper dan tiens, love vibes, increasing of compassion, etc.). So it seems to be something rather real/practical
  14. Wow, I'm speechless. It's interesting to notice how somebody can easily say "Not how it works and totally wrong" without backing it up (and mostly saying you haven't any train nor experience in rainbow body). Does anybody here find that useful? For real? Extremely easy to throw a stone and hide your hand. And utterly useless for others as well. @dawei So far your answer was the most useful one since maybe others could see this post more easily and give useful answers if I knew how to move it. Unfortunately I don't know how
  15. Please tell me exactly from where you deduced that because I didn't offend anybody nor show lack of respect. As a matter of fact please check the answers I have received and tell me what do they actually explain. If a useful answer for you is 10 words or generic references, when we are talking about something quite specific as in this case, then we have 2 different ideas or expectations of answers. As I said other people were more than helpful, I invite you to give a look to my other post so maybe you see what I mean by that, since you seem to have already figured out who I am, how I behave, what's my birthdate, etc. Talking about humility.... Plus if I had my own ideas why do you think I'd ask in this place? To waste our time? What are you guys on today?
  16. Well, if I knew how it worked I wouldn't have asked. And I'm open to anything if anyone care to explain in details, not just writing couple of generic sentences. I'd very much appreciate some to the point answers instead of assumptions or judgments. Because I'm pretty sure we are here not to talk about ourself but more to ask useful questions and expect useful answers. In my other post people were actually helpful and gave appropriate answers... @Earl Grey you are more than welcome to share your knowledge and/or experience Thx
  17. What did I miss exactly? As far as I know one of the probably most effective practices involve the developing of the 3 dan tiens as I stated on my first message. Once they merge together so to speak, light body occurs. And as I said it seems you need certain practices to develop it, or at least these practices facilitate that. Apparently it's not an actual body even though it seems there have been certain "saints" in the past who achieved that level where the physical gets overwhelmed by light. There are degrees for sure, that's kind of obvious... Actually I didn't say you would need 18 useless hours of meditation to do that, or that it happens upon awakening. You mentioned that, for no reason. I mean, what are you talking about? I think my post and my questions are pretty clear, but so far I see only general talkings in these answers to be honest.
  18. Fa Xin, if by guru yoga you mean going to a guru/master/teacher, listening to him, following his advices, etc., that is very well known in any tradition. However, as Shadow put it, it seems to me he was referring to something else, more like interaction with angels/energy beings, but I could have had a wrong impression. Thelerner, times have changed, now many things are different, even in the so called spiritual world. So it's not mandatory anymore to beg outside a tibetan temple while sweeping the floor for years. As it's not necessary anymore to find a Guru to realize your real nature. Luckily. You can still go to another city with a horse if you wish, but you can also choose to drive a car... Dawei, I don't know how to move this post. Shall I create a new one in Newcomer Corner with the same title? Pls let me know thx Spotless and EmeraldHead. I may agree that somehow the so called light body may "awaken" during the way by itself. But since it is known there seem to be certain practices which help doing that, that's why I'm asking. I think you are all missing one point though. If a person asks for a practice for light body, and more in general if a person is doing a practice to build it, please don't assume that this comes from an egoic desire (as if it'd be cool to have one light body lol) or that it means the person is not aware that life goes on and you should behave nice, develop compassion, wisdom, kindness, etc. regardless, or that this person doesn't dwell in peace and bliss. Maybe or maybe not Mostly because anyone has his own theories also about Enlightenment, reincarnation, ego, etc., but what makes the difference is always direct experience. Thanks for your replies
  19. I'm sure you know light body/rainbow body/diamond body/whatever the tradition's name body is a thing. According to tibetan buddhism there are (at least) 3 "levels" of rainbow body indeed. To "achieve" that, you need to do certain practices. Real practices which produce real effects. Never heard of interaction with so called beings to develop light body lol I don't know about Abrahamic religions though. Do they have practices which can build it up? Sounds strange, or at least unexpected.
  20. @Shadow What's the Angelic current? Sounds new age stuff lol What does "So that is a hou tian thing" mean practically @EmeraldHead ?
  21. Sure @Limahong , even though it would require another post. I'm just saying often bliss is thought to be ecstasy, or some sort of ecstatic state, like the peak of an orgasm. Well, in my experience it's not. I've experienced ecstatic bliss and also ecstasy (in other words in my experience there is a difference between bliss, ecstatic bliss and ecstasy), but any experience as it comes, it also goes away. There is only one thing always present before, during and after. And yes Sat Chit Ananda is a great description of our true nature, probably the best one, but it has been misunderstood starting exactly from ananda-bliss, which is normal/easy to misunderstand for many reasons. Bliss is permanent contentment, satisfaction, fulfilment. No fire works or orgasmic pleasure, although you may compare it to the feeling after an orgasm, not to the peak though (the orgasmic peak is a form of ecstasy, an empty one since it does empty you instead of fulfiling you forever like divine ecstasy).
  22. Too many answers and also good answers so I don't know where to start. I'd need hours if I had to reply to each of you lol So I'll just say a big THANKS!!! I do actually agree with @Pilgrim again, mostly due to my own experience, which cannot lie. Sure there are and there will always be things to face in daily life which can be annoying sometimes, that's.....life That's why it's nice and also useful to dwell in the "unmoving centre" as you called it (yes about the term "bliss" there is too much confusion, better not using it) However, eventually, you just flow with it whatever may arise, and that's why it's not difficult to deal with "dense people" as Pilgrim called, but of course you prefer using your time to do other things, in the same way you prefer to have your car fixed now and not in a week, if you have to choose. Ultimately, nobody knows and can't know if there is actually a "fullest" enlightenment. As I said the infinite doesn't know a limit, plus it's evolution's nature, but the difference is that at a certain point you just flow like a piece of wood carried by a river. And that's fantastic, at least for me. In the end, even if I didn't study nor practice it, we could say also Taoism, with all its practices, lineages, stories, etc. is a way for that, it just depends on who is "using" it, as somebody stated. As always things happen the way they need to happen.
  23. Fair enough, but for example all forms of buddhism have as "goal" Nirvana. So, would it be correct to state that Taoism aims to realize the Tao (which I guess can be read as tibetan Rigpa, hindu Moksa-Sahaja Samadhi, etc.). And if so, then why all this cultivators looking for special abilities instead of the main purpose (the Dao) ? Again, not asking rhetorically. Just to see what I'm missing. Because in other traditions there isn't this strong will, or at least it's not that evident. And mostly it's been clearly stated to refuse all that. In taoism it seems almost the opposite (in the sense that it's always been very much encouraged as far as I know), that's the confusing part, among the rest.
  24. Thanks for your reply, it's very much on point. Sure it would be pointless to claim that I have achieved something, it's like claiming somebody gets enlightened. It doesn't mean much since enlightenment is Life itself indeed and it's all there is. But we have to use some words to understand each other. About Kundalini (which happened many years ago and it was just the beginning of my path) I honestly don't know what to say or think. Too much has been said, too much confusion nowadays. But I'd like to know your view about it for sure. So in the end it's as you said, I'm here because the unfolding brought me at this point, and as I'm free and open to anything, I'm asking to see what is that. Mainly because there cannot be a limit to compassion, kindness, etc., so if certain aspects (like light body for instance) can help you improving those good qualities, then why not? In my experience there is permanent peace, joy and satisfaction, but luckily I haven't been blinded so I know with all myself we can always improve ourselves, we all have flaws no matter how evolved we are, and mostly we can always behave better and better. It's simply evolution. Hope others will give their answer to those question so we can dig a bit more
