  1. Just finished a two and a half hour flying Phoenix session outside with the full moon. There’s something special about practicing under a full moon in general but especially with flying Phoenix. It’s blows me away every time. Whole body buzzing.
Anybody else get a session in tonite?

  2. Does anybody know is it beneficial to continue fp practice if one is under emotional distress?

Going through some stuff and really dont wana halt my practice but i know ive read in other styles that it is not recommended to practice if one isnt balanced emotionally.

    Appreciate any responses

  3. Has anybody practiced flying phoenix with a blindfold on? Would there be anything wrong with doing so?

Ive been practicing FP for almost three years now and acouple weeks ago i finally learned the long form. I used a blind fold to help me get more confident with the moves. Particularly the step out and lift leg/step out. I found that using a blind fold allowed me to go even deeper in and move even slower with little to no tension.

The only drawback i can see is you cant open your eyes immdiately after the third closing breath.

    Appreciate any feedback

  4. The one I use is an app unfortunately but it works great and is very customizable. It is called "insight timer". It also offers guided meditations and community also. Worth the 5 bucks I think it was. Dharmacrafts.com also sells a nice one but believe its like $108 (which is crazy, I hope it makes a cup of coffee too...).

  5. Ive found this meditation helpful from time to time.

Take a moment and feel your physical body and settle in

Then feel whatever emotion you have. Whether it be anger, happy, sad etc. Really Take it in.

Take a breath and express compassion and understanding to yourself

Then feel that you are not alone. Feel the presence of life all over.

Take a breath and express compassion and understanding to all.

    Repeat

Can you feel lunges in your knees? I don't know if what I've been feeling over the past two days is healthy. Unless I'm holding the pose too long? (5-10 secs)

Certainly can feel discomfort from lunges in the knees but you dont wana feel pain. A lot of great stretches were mentioned. Perhaps best to do what works for you and that may help with stretches that are more difficult down the road.

I would definitely recommend checking out tre exercises too. Basically you do a few leg exercises to exhasust leg muscles and then hold acouple positions that induce tremors to release tension. These will start in your legs and within time work all the up to shoulders. Unfortunately there is no longer a full video available on youtube.

Thanks, does this happen to work the upper back in unison? I'm thinking because of the twist at the waist.

I assume thay you go down like a lunge, pause, then twist? I notice that the knee doesn't touch the floor, so it must take some building up to...

Yea that is correct. I was told theres a muscle in there that could be stretched with that and regular lunge (psoas major I think). And is responsible for alot of lower body pain. It may help to be near a table or something the lowered hand can use as support. Just a lunge stretch can also be helpful.

I seen a art doctor (active release techniques) and he recommended that stretch, regular lunge and 2 other stretches I'll post images of. I did them for about a month along with tre exercises and my regular tai chi and qi gong. Helped me tremendously. This is just my experience. Take with a grain of salt. Everybody's different.

  8. I would consider Grandmaster Lu Zijian a master with great "vitality". Theres several clips on youtube of him performing his practices at 118 years old!

Theres also a video of him smoking cigarettes over 100 and with his girlfriend that was half his age. He attributed his longevity and health to practicing internal arts and qigong.

Or perhaps he'd hit the gene pool lottery.

    Hey guys,

I'm having this issue that i'm hoping I can help be using a healing method of qigong. (This might be the wrong section, i'm a bit out of it at the moment).

Recently i've been doing Life Force Qigong by Chris Bale. I like it because it's short and simple, i've looked at other things and struggled to understand it or do 40+ minutes a day with also doing the gym and other things.

Anyway, i'm posting because i'm hoping some kind of healing qigong will help me. I've got some kind of infection recently, several tests everything has come back negative so I don't know what it is. But it is basically a pain in my groin area, some burning feelings in my penis. I took some antibiotics for it but then it seemed to get worse after briefly getting better. The doctor gave me different ones and another test that come back negative for everything. In frustration of it being pretty bad 2 nights ago I started taking those antibiotics after trying to do other things like different herbs and also a subliminal to boost my immune system which I feel has helped. I've also found it hard to think properly, waking up with fatigued muscles even when I took last week off the gym, random anxiety.

But after 3 days on them it seems to have gotten worse. 2 nights ago it was pretty bad in bed, enough that I could barely sleep and feelings that I just want to die.  Last night was similar. Also along with not being able to sleep I started shaking, was cold. Had my electric blanket on for ages, and even went to have a hot shower then got back into bed just hoping for some relief. I've also been trying all kinds of things just to get some sleep so I can forget for a while. Chamomile tea, melotonin. None of them are working right now. I also have had a tight chest.

I'm hoping in the end after a week of use antibiotics do take care of it. I'm going to the doctor about the tight chest today as it's got worse (the first one I could get into so soon) as it might be a reaction to the antibiotic. But seeing this stuff has got worse from following the other doctors advice i'm worried it won't help.

But there seems some other issue. I'm wondering if it's candida as i've had alot of issues with that but never in this specific way. I thought it was an STD at first but the way it first started doesn't seem to go along with that and 2 tests were negative.

Speaking of candida which if it's not related it's still something I want to deal with. I've literally spent like thousands of dollars trying different things to deal with it to varying success. Since i'm in better shape and lost weight and eat healthier it's alot better. But still flares up sometimes. The best thing I found was himalayan salt flushes which helped me get energy back after trying so many other things. But if any of you have done these, especially regular ones know they are horrible to go through. And since i'm on antibiotics I don't know if they will conflict.

So i'm looking for the best qigong for healing that I can do by myself at home with a dvd or whatever. The one i'm looking at is Chi Kung for Health by Terence Dunn. I have the first dvd and have ordered the rest. Would this set be suitable or would you guys recommend something else?

My most pressing issue is dealing with the pain and horribleness of whatever is going on in my groin, to get some relief. And also the problem in my chest.

Then the longer term issue is dealing with the candida that i've tried almost everything to deal with and made some progress with but not fully.

Yestarday I did the warmup and the first exercise from Chi Kung for Health Volume 1 - Five Standing Meditations. The practice guide says to start with 1 standing and 1 sitting a day but I only have the first dvd for now. And I think it's good to start small to get in the habit anyway, so i'm starting with that.

My initial report is I felt a different kind of energy than Life Force Qigong, it felt stronger. And some energy around my head and eyes like I was wide awake and more alert and my eyes even felt more open. I was shaking during it which made me wonder if it was the qigong or the qigong interacting with my issue (as I was shaking in bed). I felt a little worse after it, but then after sitting down for a while I felt a bit better. Though unfortunately the burning is back and I feel worse again. But it was a taste of it and i'll continue it daily. About an hour later my chest felt better, but today I didn't feel better after doing it. I actually felt so weak I struggled to do the exercises but I made it through.

The doctor hasn't been much help. He actually seemed confused especially when I went back a second time and just gave different antibiotics. So i'm looking at other avenues. I also have a session next week in a healthfood/alternative healing type store where he hooks me up to a machine to see what's going on and finds out what I need to deal with it. I didn't get the name of the process (i'll report that after I go for it) but I seriously didn't care, the guy asked alot of questions and seemed to be knowledgable and i'm open to whatever can help. I've known the owners of the shop for years and they don't seem dodgy or anything so I think I can trust it. I'm also considering acupuncture/chinese medicine.

Not sure what else to say. Sorry about the long post but this thing is doing my head in. I can't even use sleep to 'escape' and get some relief. At first the day was the relief but since starting this second round of antibiotics, day 3 today.. and it's actually got worse. I'm so fatigued and tired but just can't sleep at all.

I tried to goto the gym hoping some exercise would help me feel better, after like 2 light sets I left because I got lightheaded. I don't want to take more time off the gym but I might have to.

I've also been looking at different alternative healing audios, energetic clearings and such. I honestly don't put much stock in that stuff but right now i'm willing to try just for some relief!

    Thanks for reading.

Flying phoenix is defenetly a solid practice for boosting health and wellbeing. I've had a lot of success with it. I would also suggest something like elderberry for what your describing. Either a syrup or gaia has extract capsules you can open and take under the tounge for a more potent delivery. It's very good at taking care of viruses in the body, clearing mucus in the body, boasting the immune system and a number of other things.

    Yes, it is.

Edit: Sorry, and also ofcourse welcome LightShadowDao18. I would love to hear your experiences with FP so far as I practice the same every day but unfortunately only for about 20-40 minutes a day at the moment.

    Greetings

My experiences have been pretty great so far. I'm on my 308th day of consistant practice that I slowly progressed to how long I practice now. One thing I've noticed in particular is my bodies ability to adapt. I work rotating shifts and ever since I've been about 3 months in I can switch shifts with ease. It use to be very difficult and hard on my mind and body. I've also noticed improvement in the flow/relaxation of my tai chi practice. FP has certainly taught me to go slower in all aspects of my life.

  12. Ive been practicing flying phoenix for a little less than a year and also following the blog here on the dao bums for some time. After it going private recently I decided to go ahead and get membership and perhaps participate in the blog. The blog has been a big help throughout my practice of fpck. My current practice is about an hour in the morning and an hour in the early evening alternating with exercises from volumes 1-3. Ive tried a lot of different qi gong and also practice tai chi and fpck has truly been life changing and eye opening for me. Something about it makes it easy for me to practice consistently. Where ive struggled practicing other styles daily.

    thanks

    joe
