  1. Learning lessons does not end. There is no stage of life that does not contain some lessons. As long as you live there will be something more to learn. This is so true, it took me a little while to learn this. Is the girl in the picture your daughter? I think when we had our daughter is when I truly learned this. I really believe we have just as much to learn from our children as we have to teach them. Some of the things we think we have to teach them are really only closed mindedness and intolerance. It isn't until you observe how open minded your children can be that you realize that your reality might not be the true reality, it may just be how you were brought up! I've come to believe that the wisest men will have no answers, in the end they will only have questions....
  2. A question for taoists

For me daoism is the ability to keep your mind open and willing to accept new ideas and thoughts. I'm sure it would be nice to have black and white ideals for doing a report on daoism, but the reason many of the posts are kind of vague is because that is the whole essence of the religion. It is what drew me to it. There are no rights or wrongs or sets of rules. The only rules you will encounter are the rules of nature, the farther away you get from these rules the farther you will be removed from your natural being and natural calmness. It is not impossible to survive in this setting, but it is more stressful and more difficult.

Thanks for all the tips everyone :-)
  4. Meditation

I am a fairly new Taoist, I have found that I already believed basically everything I have read about Taoism up to this point and I am very excited that I have found it. Anyway, I want to experience the benefits of Meditation, but I am having trouble finding enough silence and stillness in my life. Don't get me wrong, I love my life, but with a 50-60 hour work week and a wife and 3 year old, it is not easy! Does anyone have any tips?
  5. Yesterday I went to the fair with my wife and my three year old. We rode various kiddie rides including the merry go round and a school bus that goes up and down, nothing major, just kiddie rides. I noticed after we got home that I felt discombobulated the rest of the day, a little off balance, a little queasy, just not quite right. That got me to thinking, why as a kid could I ride practically anything and not only feel okay afterward, but actually feel exhilarated, yet as an adult a simple merry go round leaves me feeling off kilter the rest of the day? The answer is simple, I haven't done it in twenty years! We ( as adults ) take so much for granted and lose skills we once possessed as we get older without even realizing it. Some people would think to themselves, " children can do it because they don't know any better ", but is the opposite not true? Adults can't do it because we have pre-conceived notions of balance and control. Notions that obviously are simply not true, yet we make them true in our own heads. I believe adults do this in a lot of other areas also. We lose the ability to imagine, dream, and create. The older we get without using these skills, the harder it is to get them back. The reason I am drawn to Taoism is because it gives you the ability to keep your mind open as opposed to some other religions that are very intolerant and closed minded.
