  1. Protection from leeches

Sure . But I am not talking about that . I am thinking more like, after all that was done and the young lady in question had been to docs. psyche, had meds, to no avail. Waking up in the middle of the night, and thinking 'Oh no, not again ! ' and desperately trying to prove to yourself you are asleep but cant wake yourself up.... then a demonic version of yourself comes into your bedroom, and starts ripping parts off you, and eating them, and you can feel that, And then your mum finally wakes you up because you are screaming .... isnt just a matter of what you suggest .... although 'personal issues' might come a bit closer. In the case of a 'real' leech salt and blade work fine too ! That's not an 'over reaction' either . The magical blade also represents the balanced mind. Or this could be used too
  2. Protection from leeches

a blade or fingernail for your variety and a 'magical blade' (copper or iron ) for this variety ........
  3. Protection from leeches

Throw some salt around . Then get 'a blade' between you and their attachment .
  4. Whats real ? That it is a real body , that it is a dead preserved body, that all the stupid story that goes with it is real ? The stupid story that is trying to negate all the proof and evidence of history, archaeology, etc to make a new woo woo history fro the earth and its peoples ... by offering up one example of this 'immortal' ...one case of ( pathetically based ) ' hard proof' to negate all the other masses of hard proof that say the opposite. This is a symptom of collective madness .... that whats what it is ! If one person went around touting these ideas, they would be considered a candidate for the 'holiday camp' ..... not nowadays, its called 'occult' or 'new discoveries' [ A bit like, in the old days if a guy with half his hair shaved off, unshaven and raving madly and abusing imaginary friends while he walks out into traffic would get taken for a visit to 'holiday camp' . Nowadays its just some hipster stockbroker on his bluetooth. ]
  5. Oh man ..... I never watched more than a few seconds of 'Jedi Gym' before .... but now ..... that guy that popped the ball ... the one with the little helmet on top of the big head .... Oh ... Jesus ! I'm tappin out - but it won't stop ...
  6. dont you just want to charge into the middle and ......
  7. I think I know what you mean without Vid .... but dont even know the term myself , to type in for search . ' defecting 'block' that continues as stike ' ? cant find one ? ? ? Is this relatively unknown ? Hmmmm .... like Master Ken " I like that it is unknown ... keep it that way .... then Australia-do-te can whip their arse ! "
  8. I never heard my last Aiki-kai instructor mention the world 'ki' ... nor give any explanation of those 'energy exercises / warm ups ' that Aiki does, what they were, what was supposed to be happening or what they were supposed to be doing, or what one was supposed to be visualising , etc . Why was I told 'it is rude to ask ' ? Why did the instructor not seem to know ? Why are they teaching things that seem wrong and inefficient ? (yes, I did learn a lot of an Aiki -kai instructor about sword, but he closed the club eventually, on the last day, he was still very curious about me, when others had departed he wanted to 'see if you can kill me' 'outside training', he attacked, I evaded and just held my sword out sideways with the tip resting between his ribs over his heart. he was surprised and "Oh ... I am dead." To me it was the most obvious and basic technique ... and his attack was bad and unrealistic ... 'too much dojo' . But where is it going ? On a more serious note ,,,, GtW ..... check some of these out , Peter Goldsworthy (indeed it is worthy gold ! ) ..... boy did it answer a hell of a lot of questions for me I had about discrepancies, confusions, and a whole lot of trips I thought was going on .... but couldnt identify. Peter has done a brilliant job; " Transmission , Inheritance and emulation. " http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1053310
  9. yes. A few times I have tried to get this across with sword as well, with 'body motion', the concept of ' cut / exit ' a kill should be done while exiting out of range. Not much point ducking under and slashing the belly if the dead guys sword continues with momentum to cut you. I like to cut, if I can, eg', lower part of kill zone on sword cutting and checking the others arms, while the upper part cuts the neck ( cutting up or down) while you are on the outside, turning and exit while you are checking the others arms and preventing a follow with your blade, and exit out with a sliding cut to the wrist, etc. Kaokirutsuki - sliding cut / thrust to the face , is an excellent example of this; the attack is a 'floating sword' technique, one 'blocks' and deflects any attempted counter as one is cutting , double punch can work the same way (as can single punch ) First 'count' ( 3 moves) of the first kata ( Hien / Pinan) is also a good example ( well, if you got the right bunkai ) 2nd move can be simultaneous block punch ( same guy that got the mouth elbow also disputed the efficacy of this technique ... Dude, if it is simultaneous block counter ... you have to simultaneous attack / counter ! ) Another point I often make with sword and body motion ; dont flail you sword around , many of your cuts can be with minimal arm movement, its the body movement that does a lot of it. Check some of Mr Sugarno's move /flow / body motion ( I trained with his son a bit ... he used to attend school when he was younger in my home town ... he taught me proper 'floating' technique for ' Kaokirutsuki' ) .... using 18 Jo kata bunkai against bokken from 2;30
  10. ' Variation ' ? and, like much of karate , was based on the sword equivalent ; ( I went to a great seminar given by Dave Brown - Aiki - kai on how much of aikido and karate are based on sword movements . Dave did a lot of cross training, including with 'Hard Style' karate . )
  11. <posting probs so I split it > Then we tried this; I did the 'block" as above but used the 'offside' hand extension to knock the incoming punch up and moved in using the block as an elbow to the face, as I was moved into a forward and low ZKD , it was a little low, near the chin and my forearm rammed into just below his shoulder joint on his upper arm, He goes : 'I reckon I could have punched around and got you in the head with my other arm then ." "Okay, let's amp it up " ... he came in fast and I responded fast, prob was as he punched around his head followed around a bit and my fuller force upper 'block' powered by momentum and sinking into ZKD hit him elbow first in the mouth ! He staggered back, somehow no blood and still had all his teeth . Well , that was an eye opener ! But wait, lets add a bit more ; with reverse ZKD ( now my other leg is forward ) and slow it down but keep the flow. This time, slower and more carefully, he rolled his head back with the elbow, to avoid another hit, but as I retracted my other arm to my hip, I gabbed his left arm/wrist and pulled it in to hip, he went down and I stopped his fall with my arm just as he was about to land back first, arched over my bent and extended front leg . Deflect, 'enter' elbow strike, take down, back 'break' . We didnt try it full speed. PS, the leading first hand deflection could also strike in while deflecting, with fingers thrust at eye. Also, we only practiced this as defence against oitsuki , that's a 'qualifier' in itself. ~ next week , 101 uses of 'gedan bari '
  12. Okay, let's play with it ( I will be Master Ken ) Consider; many techniques a la JKA seem partial and misunderstood or held back , like the use of retracting hand when punching. Now, when I was first taught the Upper block ( a la early Shotokan / JKA ) it was even 'worse' ; 1. Assume left Zenkutsudashi, left arm in downward block position, right fist at hip. 2. Slide right foot into and next to left, keep knees bent, extend left arm straight out and up at 45 degrees palm open fingers together and extended. pointing up. 3. Slide right foot forward and out to right ZKD , retract the left arm to the hip ( while making a fist ) while the right comes forward and up following the path of the retracting other arm ( when I asked about this I was told it was to 'sight the block' ) and end up in right ZKD in the classic upward block pose. What the hell did I know ? I was young and never done martial arts before (just a bit of wrestling at the Police Boys Club ) . Now aside from this being maybe somehow beneficial for beginners there are obvious problems with it. The shotokan instructor we train with said they dont do that right hand extension first anymore. I asked him to go into full strong ZKD in a pose like he was punching ( oitsuki ) to my head. I slapped his hand away and said try again, stronger. he got really strong and I pushed it away, stronger and I moved it off line with one finger then: "If I can just slap the hand away or duck or weave and slap ( or duck, weave , 'block and sting' , ie. hit with a knuckle on a pressure point at the attaching hand wrist arm ) why do this massive overpowered and dangerous block ? "
  13. HA ! Riiight . Friend showed me a photo of Sikiran Grand Master relaxing at home in a spar, with a high holster (above the water line ) with a pearl handled silver plated revolver in it. You think they dont have .45s there ? Anyway ... carry on ... experience is the better teacher anyway .
  14. Here is Master Sokken ( he still has a student actively teaching in Australia and in some other places ) it is a demo / kata of the central form of 'Okinawan Crane' . the family fighting style, that his grandfather used as personal bodyguard to the last three Okinawan kings . Then the Japanese dissolved the kingship and ended the Okinawan 'Samurai' family traditions .
  15. When I started Shorin Ryu thats all I heard constantly ! I even got stopped sometimes and had my shoulders massaged and ' "Relax .... relax ........ now try again ." I was never much good at sidekicks. A guy in the Sikiran group I was in for a while was ..... ooomph ! , couldn't stop them ... or even see a lot of them coming .
  16. yeah .... different culture .... dont take a karate or aikido 'knife disarm' to the Philippines ! Those guys scared me ! Some had scars on arms and across face from real fights Compare ( if you have done any aikido ) , tanto usage and style of attack and defense in aikido to this 'old guy' @ 1:50 Certainly . My understanding was it was his son, and to do with changing a specific terms in the writings into ' love' 'harmony; and such things. This was a post war necessity in an occupied country. People associated with 'aikido' before then, including Ueshiba, were part of a group that was going to play a part in the new Japanese Empire of domination. I have been told about Aikido's peaceful techniques , yet one can find some photos of the Master himself practising the art ; dodge bokken blow and jam end of fan spikes into attacker eyes , stuff like that. There are pages and pages of great info on this on Aiki web by a qualified researcher , fascinating stuff; history, the dynamics of transition, and inheritance in JApanese MA the all important cultural issues of honne and tatemae , etc plus that group of 'political' associates of Ueshiba back then were doing some pretty rad Shinto 'spirit / kamie ' stuff . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honne_and_tatemae all play their part They will punish you in training for that ..... you gaijin spy !
  17. PS. you do realise the style you wan to do is based on Shorin Ryu dont you ? Warning : Joining the Japanese military may be hazardous to your your longterm health as well.
  18. Well okay then ..... and thanks for your input
  19. Sure, I could have put up a vid of a karate guy beating a boxer , but that one, I thought, was a good demo of the issue I was talking about re punching with some forms of karate teaching .... teaching it as 'self -defense' ( when many street fights, in my culture, seem to rely on boxing, and flailing and grappling .... if anything ) . I know a guy who can cream me with his fists, he is actually a bare knuckle champ from a pretty rough place in the outback. But another third friend of ours took some very brief and basic self defense off me. He flummoxed the other by 'sort of accidentally' jabbing a finger in his eye as his hand flailed close enough to do it, the other ( who was little drunk and insisting on a 'friendly box' and actually just starting one up ) , being a boxer and being used to gloves threatening him just wasn't expecting it . Later he warmed other people " Dont pick on him, he's crazy ! He poked me in the eye ! " And that is without even attacking him 'downstairs' not one of those Karate / TKD guys sent for a knee attack or a foot sweep or a lock up / take down, a flying technique. Once, at work there was a friendly between a chinese martial arts choreographer and a well known boxer / actor on down time. Many times the boxer just kept back punched at the attacking hand, foot or ... he got 'nailed' a few times * , and a few times it went the other way. ,,, a draw I would say. But in a fight , anything can happen ! Anyone can win .... ya never know . * The way they worked the safety issue was to pull the blow just before contact, They were good sportsman and each acknowledged a hit, when it happened , with no ref ,,, some, I didnt even notice myself, to fast !
  20. Excellent post Michael ! Take another Dan , and they kept getting punched in the head by boxers Cross train folks - cross train ! Yep, Thats one reason. Many Okinawans went to south China to polish their skills , and some came to Okinawa . was Chinto from South China ? Kwang Shang Fu (Kushanku) was , supposedly , the one whose visit and teaching resulted in Kusanku form and kata . The other day I watched a youtube some karate style Vs some other karate style ; " Begin ! " Both assume a short zenkutsu, hands up and while maintaining position begin hopping up and down at each other in the stance . < presses 'stop play ' > Yes, good observation ! There was fighting though ..... real and nasty . One 'master' claimed defeat on another by climbing up a tree. laying in wait for him, then dropping onto him as he passed below, breaking his neck ! One just cant envision Master Funakoshi behaving that way ! This has been up before, and you are prob familiar with it, but its a neat little demo of what is behind Okinawan 'form' , and many may not realise what happened or what is going on in 'karate' . but still, even this is not anything goes (as it is a sport with rules) ..... you get hit in the nuts and then get time to recover ! ? ! ? ... not in real fight ya dont ! Yes, that is spreading. We got one permanent student that is an instructor for Shotokan ( shhh ) ... and the occasional visitor instructor ( I told you my story about being asked to show another one some stuff and to 'park out the back and come in the back door " ... he again, I am not trying to make a 'business' out of it . [Time for another Nungali story ; this above guy has a club with a name and a sign and everything , its on his car too, and his wifes car, a little gay pink metro courier thing . Well, one day, his car must have been off and he borrowed hers . I saw it stopped ahead at the traffic lights "Ahhh , there is that car ... and now he is driving it, and its full of big guys crammed into it." So I pull up near it - on his blind side. The other guys look like other karate instructors to me, its Saturday, so probably all going to some tournament . One looks at me and I sneer at him. He looks angry so I sneer more, look at the pink car, and show him my limp wrist, mouth " so and so's karate club " reading the side of the car and mime LOL . Now he looks furious and I glare back at him and mime "Pull over and I'll have ya ! " Now, looking like an enraged bull he tells the others, the other three are now at the windows gnashing at me Theh the driver ( the one I taught some some stuff too , looks over ferociously, then recognises me and his face goes " Arrrr faaark ! " and I can see he is telling the others who I am ... they all start laughing and giving me the finger and waving sais at me ..... then I did a wheelie and burned them off at the lights, then cut them off in a lange change with them chasing me ... and laughing ..... hmmm , I wonder what any onlookers thought Yes, they didnt actually do 'sparring' at 'HQ'. One guy didnt understand that and when visiting Okinawa, after training (and this isnt in a dojo or anything ) he just shaped up to teacher , he thought it meant spar, teacher thought it meant fight - he immediately lept at him (not hopped ) let lose with a flying right roundhouse kick (feint) and landed with a left roundhouse kick to the outside of the others knee. Oooops ! Big misunderstanding ..... the guy had to get taken to hospital. " He want to fight me .... fight ME ? ! " " No no Senasi ! He didnt mean that , he meant spa .... like sport ." " Spa ... sport ? No ... train or fight , that it ! " ... Better, not best ; You heard this one yet ? A town had a boxing instructor, a karate instructor, a judo instructor and an aikido instructor. One friday night at the pub, all hell breaks loose . The boxing instructor is in a corner punching out anyone near enough to threaten him. The karate instructor is kicking people in the head, the judo instructor is throwing people left right and centre .
  21. This is ancient ... and Kanezawa was my first teacher;s ( iron rod neck guy ) instructor. Consider that a ritual . In such competitions I have even won against guys that would have creamed me in real life, as I did the techniques the way the judges (JKA 'inspectors' ) wanted and he didnt. I got points and he didnt . he got so infuriated during the match they actually stopped and warned him if he hurt me or used an 'unapproved technique' he would be disqualified from the whole tournament ! Those guys got away with some throws and grappling due to their high dan ranking, there kepe a fuller range of techniques - not for below 3rd dan ... back in those days . My instructor and Shorin ryu incorporates them from the beginning , but really one should enter this type of training from black belt level - or equivalent .
  22. Many Japanese ( remnant JKA) karateka learnt the hard way ... they got KOed by boxers because they ... well, had a shit punching technique. I can counter just about any 'demo technique' from my instructor, just by keeping 'hand up' retracting the non punching hand to the hip is asking for it ! Unless you do it when it is supposed to be done . But that is Shorin Ryu ..... you cant compare us to those other ones that practiced a degraded form . It mostly comes from white crane style, mixed with some grappling, throws and takedowns from traditional Okinawan 'wrestling' . In Seito Shorin Ryu (my present instructor's style) the central form is hakatsuru - crane form. he learnt it from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nishihira_Kosei who learnt it from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohan_S%C5%8Dken ( who left Okinawa and was not effected by the 'degredation' * and he from his uncle and he from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohan_S%C5%8Dken I would go outside of modern JKA karate for that I started with a mainstream 'famous' Shotokan teacher ,,, he looked like he had a steel girder connecting his head to shoulders , occasionally it moved rear wards a bit, especially when watching a front kick, even from a distance ! Another guy, known as a deadly fighter (even though quiet old ) , watching him deal with a punk at the pub. Punk throws a left jab, old guy moves nothing but his head to the right - missed. A right jab, same other side. Then "Okay, now its my turnnnn ..." before the nnnn s had finished , wham ... KO flat out. Old guy takes a pack of cigarettes out of punks top shirt pocket, takes one, puts the pack back, takes his lighter, lights fag, decides to keep the lighter, and turns to walk back to the pokkies , then stops, looks at the whole pub and "Any one else got a problem ?" The whole pub .... Many a time I have counfounded a training partner in karate with a very simple counter or technique. Another variation was a guy from another style training with me ; " I cant handle this, why do you shape up like that. I was always told to keep my guard up to protect my head, you just stand there with your arms dangling , whats with that?" Me; " Well, have you been able to punch me in the head ? No. Actually, I want you to attack my head, thats why I am standing here like this, even angling it forward a bit, like a sucker. But you might notice, when we close, I do have hands up (and 'legs up' for low defense .... well, legs up when needed ... otherwise it gets really tricky ) * from real fighting art , to decimation of form and teachers due to WWII invasion of Okinawa , to the victors asking the defeated to teach them their secret fighting arts - yeah riiight ! ) , to it being turned into a P.E. format for Japanese primary school students, then to a sport with rules and restrictions .
  23. So, for training , I came up with this solution, and worked on the 'stick' instead, (after a few trials of "Owww ! That still hurts bad ! " through to it being too flexible and wobbly, I came up with this .; Carefully selected piece of bamboo, uniform and right width ( for rigidity and a bit of weight ) Inside a tight fitting piece of electrical conduit pipe ( safety as bamboo can split and shred , and also adds some strength ) and then inside some hot water pipe insulation tubing ( padding ) Make the last layer longer than the others (padding for thrusts ) and insert a rubber stopper into the end of the conduit, glue and squeeze the foam over the stopper. They last a fair while and are easy and cheap to make and replace. No thrusts to face or throat, a trust to the throat can be lowered to the chest, but considered as higher. No lasting damage , but you can feel it when you get hit,
  24. Stick fighting drills are fun ! But fighting, you either use full armour (restrictive) , no armour ( crazy ) , pull the blows ( not realistic - but thats what we do ,,, e should probably use gloves though ) , or part armour ... seems the best BUT ; watch from 23:28 - 24:33
  25. Hanging Gardens of Babylon

some background on the original concept .... pairi daeza - ' Paradise ' . " The Achaemenian kings took a personal interest in gardening. " http://www.heritageinstitute.com/zoroastrianism/garden/
