    Lloyd, If my time is limited as usual in the morning I do The 1st standing med. from vol 6. 90 60 40 30, for 5 to 10 min and then the 4th and 5th med from vol 5. I also do a (previously posted) med from GM Doo Wai's youtube videos. It is short, sweet and packs a big wallop. So do the other short med's that I just listed (also the 5th med from vol 6. 50 40 30 20 10 is most empowering too). The beauty seems to be what Sifu Terry has posted here in the past, that "less is more". Thanks for your kind words John

    This is a very meaningful and revealing point in the dual / non dual nature of meditation and it's effects in the world of waking consciousness Steve. I have found out about this actual realization for myself over the years of practice and trying my own different times and frequencies on many levels of not only Transcendental Meditation, but with other traditions as well. Enlightenment is beyond our ability to fully grasp intellectually. Nothing is written in stone. I also know some other good stories regarding Maharishi and his outside interests too. Sifu Terry has asked me to share something with everyone here who has been following lately the discussion. In that I also have days where I only do three or four short groups of FP and Bot Dim Gum, Bak Fu Pai in a 20 minute or half hour time span before my work day. It seems that on those days I have some of my best experiences throughout with energy, attitude and physical comfort, and actual outcomes of that day (like today). In other words, I have a really good day. And I do the long form after at the end of the day (maybe with a few seated MSW). It seems to me that just a brief amount of the right combinations, often feels to be way more than enough to get through non stop of eight to nine hours of driving, conversation, lifting heavy luggage and a quick lunch as well. If I have the time before work to do more, I do so and it also works wonderfully well too. But the point here is that energy cultivation with celestial healing and martial arts is not necessarily a linearly restricted practice. A relatively little bit of time here apparently does go a long way. And in retrospect, I can easily see how it makes all the difference (in the world). Sincerely John

    Hi Loyd, great points and thoughts to ponder. I have found that meditation is not limited to time and space. If one is limiting effects to length of time, then how much is enough ? It is finding a balance for each one. I truly don't need to to do 2 hours to feel the energy. How does one standardize a "really strong energetic state" ? I just love to experiment and feel what doing the different combinations, along with varying amounts of time spent in each one. Sifu Terry has said in the past that it will vary according to each one's life experiences, states of consciousness and health conditions when starting to practice. 45 min is a long session for each meditation of MSW. Can you experience full benefits from doing shorter meditations for perhaps, 15 min each ? I believe so. I have given this a lot of consideration and practice to find that I am experiencing what I need to by doing what my inner guidance tells me with the FP (BFP, BDG). You can take any great lengths of time to do a meditation, even all day if so inspired. And if so, that is what you do. Do you have to feel obligated to do that all the time? I would definitely think not. Transcendental Meditation told it's people to meditate for 20 min twice day. Is that a universal truth ? No. One can do longer or shorter meditations after establishing a baseline of experience. FP is not a trap, it is liberating from suffering and limitations itself. I do what I can, when time allows. It all flows towards healing and support for the life I am living. If I stopped for some reason tomorrow and never did them again, all will be well. But I am enjoying doing what I know, when I am free to do it. It feels good and it does get better with time and realization, (and yes practice). But I would not put limits on spirit/spiritual energy. A Course In Miracles says that there is no order of difficulty in "miracles". Consider this (point) when you are looking for, a "tipping point". This is my understanding and approach to a continuum that I know to be Qigong/Yoga. I hope that this addresses your original question Loyd. All The Best John

    Hello Loyd, my FP practice schedule revolves around my ever flexible and changing work schedule. As a diabetic I still have to eat frequently, so that can hinder practicing at a moments notice continually. I usually get in 2 hours of doing different combinations of The Long Form Vol 4, some Flash meditations from vol 5, the BFP (Taoist Meditations) from vol 6. and two different meditations per day from vol 7 Monk Serves Wine. I practice daily (7 days per week). I'll also do Monk Holds Pearl in bed if I wake up at night and have any issues falling back to sleep. Best John

    Hello Jascha, I too recently learned the GM Doo Wai meditation that you mentioned previously and above. It does do just what you described, and in me as well. As Sifu Terry has also described in previous posts about the Bak Fu Pai and (Eight Sections of Energy Combined), they both work very complimentary and powerfully with the FP meditations and energy. I feel it as I described above. I have always been an athlete my entire life and this practice rejuvenates and energizes all endeavors for good and higher purposes. Learning new skills and reconnecting with older ones as well. My throwing arm (baseball and football), is back after being painfully restricted for several years. My abilities as a downhill skier and instructor were observed as being almost unheard of for a man in his 50's (as well as long distance rollerblading). My favorite exercise of all (hiking mountains), has become a joy of living with vast endurance and inspiration. But the inner peace through it all is the most meaningful experience to relate with others. This comes from health and healing, which the FP meditations give to anyone who learns and practices them.I think that Sifu Terry Dunn would be the best source of info on Eight Sections Of Energy practices as he knows many more than the one I practice from Vol 5. But that one (#5) is very effective and powerful. And again, thank you very much "bubbles" for your kind words. Best John

    Hello bubbles, The FP practice has made a very powerful impact on my life as a diabetic. My pain has decreased, and my energy has increased exponentially on many levels. The meditative state and energy cultivation has reached into my daily life and activities as a healing and empowering enhancement to say the least. My insulin intake has decreased as well. My outlook and performance with my work has been greatly uplifted and supported by the practice and inner experience of the mind body emotional and spiritual realization of expanded conscious awareness. I feel vibrant and youthful. Especially with a birthday approaching on the 31st (Aug). I bound up the 6 flights of stairs to my apartment several times a day with ease and swiftness. I wrangle heavy luggage and long hours driving (limo service, and in dress clothes too), each day with enjoyment and comfort. My mental clarity is sharp, clear and expansive, in my many conversations with passengers and quick decision making on the road. It is simple and sublime, complex in it's effects and experiential knowledge of application in every life. A profound feeling of gratitude and grace arises and grows out of learning, performing and living with the FP, (BFP and BDG) meditations, as well as being privileged to share this here with those who also practice this truly amazing and celestial art.     Yes "alles", I do have paintings there from before FP. But I had been doing yoga meditation since 1976, so all of my work has been influenced and inspired by the transcendent realm of consciousness. FP (and BFP) has given me added energy and inspiration to put out a lot more paintings with new insights to creative techniques. Thank you for your friendship and support.

    Hello ShivaShakti. Yes, do not skip volume 5. As I wrote, I do the last one on there (80 70 50 40 30) in a much longer slower form often 5 min sometimes 15 minutes. I do all of them very slow because they are designed to be performed at 90 seconds or longer (time allowing). The last one is from the 8 Sections Of Energy Combined (Bat Din Gum), and has a martial energy to it. It has to be experienced. You will be glad that you did. "Tao stillness" put it beautifully above regarding volume 5. John

    Hi Steve and tendou, it is a pleasure to meet you. My experiences of TM are unique and diverse in and of themselves from when I started practicing in 1976. It turned out for me personally that I was familiar with the experience of this new technique to our culture, having plumbed the depths of my own mind since early childhood. This was a spontaneous awakening of realization without fully understanding at the time what was unfolding. The benefits vary and are wide ranging for both types of meditations. Hopefully the main benefits of both lead all to a an awakening conscious awareness of that in and of itself. Yoga meditation is done while sitting and leads to a full experience of the cosmic/unity consciousness that transcends the practice and techniques. Flying Phoenix as well as Bak Fu Pai, Bat Dim Gum (and all of the other forms that Sifu Terry teaches as discussed on this thread previously, serve to bring about immediate and long lasting effects with our body, mind and emotional lives as they integrate on a gross level throughout our worldly interactions. Sitting Yoga meditation has enhanced my own experiential knowledge of Flying Phoenix and the related forms within Terry's DVD's. The actual effects of Qi Gong healing and martial energies are unfolding with me as I write this and live day to day (with diabetes). It is exciting and rewarding on a very subtle yet empowering level. "Sublime" as Sifu Terry says it so well. Applying the different meditations at varying times and circumstances brings on new and deeper insights to life and being human. The healing energies affect others as well as myself. The martial energies empower a balance of interaction with worldly as well as spiritual affairs. It is an observation that is also subtle yet very strong with awareness of things that would normally go unnoticed otherwise. My creative and athletic abilities are not only vigorously supported but surprisingly enhanced. To try and describe it to a lay person would be very challenging if they have no point of reference to relate to. It is a matter for everyone who is starting to practice and exploring the mysteries of their own being, to "just do it". The results will be healing and life supporting, but unique to one's own life experience. I know that the slower I move when practicing the Flying Phoenix and Taoist movements, the stronger the energies move through and around me. I have taken 15 min at times to even do the (90 second) 5th meditation of 80 70 50 40 30. The energies arising out of doing that in super slow motion have seemed to attempt to lift me off the floor and move me forcibly around from the standing position. How does one talk about that to just anyone else who knows not of these arts ? As for the sitting meditations "pitisukha", Sifu terry has recommended to those having trouble with the half lotus posture to sit any way comfortable and then to gradually stretch into the position over time.     Hi, my name is John Nesbit and have been a long time student of Sifu Terry Dunn's and of the Tai Chi and Chi Kung For Health series. I have been reading this particular (and Sifu Garry Hearfield's) threads for about 6 weeks now. My exposure to the Chi Kung for Health series started back in 2003. It is truly a multidimensional experience of transformative energy healing and life empowering cultivation, unlike any other I have seen or encountered in my 56 years. I came from a background of athletics and sports in the early 60's and 70's as a baseball, football, basketball and competitive wrestling world here in Western Massachusetts. When I was also very young I became aware of the Transcendental Meditation movement and later started practicing that in 1976. Later followed Reiki (level 3), Aikido and Zhan Zhuang. The Flying Phoenix Qigong is unique from anything I have ever done, (including many years of practicing The Five Tibetan Rites as well). My experiences have been filled with a wide range of energies and resulting effects, from mental and creative shifts of consciousness to phenomenal physical abilities in music and oil painting to downhill ski instructing. The experiences are numerous and vast in magnitude. I wish to share here in an ongoing conversation with the other members (and at Terry's request), my understanding of what The Flying Phoenix Heavenly Healing Qigong has opened up and brought into my life.     Hello my name is John Nesbit. I am an old friend and student of Sifu Terry Dunn's going way back to the 90's with Tai Chi For Health and then Chi Kung For Health. I have been reading and following the Flying Phoenix Chi Kung thread fro for well over a month now, and want to start contributing my experience and support for the other member's and Sifu Terry, as my experience with Yoga Meditation began in 1976 (and competitive wrestling in 1971). I look forward to getting to know everyone and learning more from the vast wealth of knowledge and experience that I have discovered here since arriving here back in June. Kind Regards John
