[TBOPB1C01] Agrippa Book One Chapter One

Recommended Posts

The application of “superiors” in the “binding” of natural phenomena and other matters is a very important aspect of the practice of Natural Magic. In modern times, except for some people with, shall we say, uncommon sexual proclivities, binding probably has a bad name. There is of course a lot more to the magical art of “binding”, then is ordinarily considered, but as far as binding goes, who wouldn't want to live in a locale one found perfect, in an abode which one found “enchantingly” attractive, and do work that one found to be amazingly fulfilling? Any binding that falls short of this is just incompetent magic.

Of Bindings; what Sort they are of, and in what Ways they are wont to be Done.

Hmmm ... now I am contemplating I may have practised some 'competent magic' after all ! ( 4 outa 4 aint bad ;) ).

[Actually this caused a falling out with a group I was associated with ; on the one hand they seemed to think my view and practice of magic was ... :D:P:rolleyes: ... chuckles behind my back and comments that got back to me .... all that shit ... wiggle.gif

... and on the other hand they all seemed to want the 4 things above - couldn't quiet manifest it and couldnt understand how it managed to fall in my lap.

.... bye-bye then wavey.gif

Based on how you are quoting me, I wasn't sure whether I had written the above passage clearly enough so to avoid future misunderstanding, I added a little extra in order to make it clearer:

The application of “superiors” in the “binding” of natural phenomena and other matters is a very important aspect of the practice of Natural Magic. In modern times, except for some people with, shall we say, uncommon sexual proclivities, binding probably has a bad name. There is of course a lot more to the magical art of “binding”, then is ordinarily considered, but as far as binding goes, who wouldn't want to live in a locale one found perfect, in an abode which one found “enchantingly” attractive, and do work that one found to be amazingly fulfilling? This is how spirits bound should feel about their "binding" and any binding that falls short of this is just incompetent magic, and there will be trouble in the long run. The magical system of Geomancy is the practical key to good binding. (Emphasis added to note changes, ZYD)

So, you still may have been practicing competent magic, though it may or may not have been in the sense which I intended. On the other hand, some people are just lucky whether they practice magic or not.

I see that two ways ;

I 'myself' am an evoked spirit .... happily living those three things within Ungud's Dream.

My 'spirit friends' seem happy ... I even made them a nice house and make offerings.

Their 'work' has 'lifted them up' now they seem happier (less 'disruptive') with their tasks as they 'evolve'.

The same goes for my feral pets. .... they just got to find a way to get on better with each other.

[ Here the 'binding' - being 'feral pets' they are ' voluntary bindings' - now currawong will just come and sit beside me when he doesnt even want food ... we just hang out ... and he still does his 'job' fine. ... I have never been one to 'curse and bind by the names of God' ... I tried it a few times and the ones that I find do need that, I prefer not to work with. For my 'kin' ... and the 'spirits' and myself I prefer 'persuasion' and the idea that we are ' in the same boat together' ( oh .... I just remembered ... I saw that 'Life of Pi' movie for the first time last night :D )

As far as connecting all that to 'Superiors' in a local shamanic sense ... probably beyond the scope and time period of this thread.

Thanks for the feedback, Michael and Frater UFA. I will return to Agrippa in a month or so. Got school stuff to do at the moment.

Some of the better preserved frescoes in the Palazzo Schifanoia at Ferrara, Italy. Each of them is representing the correspondences of a star sign (here Cancer, Leo and Virgo) on the three levels of the world. On the bottom of each fresco we see mundane activities in the elemental world typically taking place while the Sun is in that sign; in the central band the iconography connected with the three decanes of the sign, signifying the celestial world; on top a Greek Deity corresponding with the sign (although not according to the Ptolemaic rulership system but to the peculiar correspondences in Manilius' Astronomica), belonging to the intellectual world.

The decans are also part of Agrippa's system even though their imagery diverges from the one used in the Palazzo which is based on another important book of Magic, the famous Picatrix.

The Palazzo is definitely worth seeing for anybody interested in classical Astrology or Magic, if you get the chance. I was there twice myself.
