Here because of Gary Clyman

Recommended Posts

Hello Tao Bums World,

I am a young taoist pursuing the way. I have decided to join this forum because of a promise I made to Gary Clyman in exchange for showing me his techniques. He said that if his stuff was for real, then I should post on the Tao bums to tell all those "assholes" it was for real.

Now, I am not Clyman. I was not hypnotized by Clyman. I do not care if anyone takes classes or receives information from Clyman. I am not one of Clyman's students. All that said, the guy is legitimate. You may call him an asshole. I probably would. But, he has powerful internal power. He threw me against a wall with one wave of long power, on the floor, and gave me several punches each with a different feeling in the chest/stomach. These 5 strikes corresponded with the five elements (wood, Earth, water, fire, and metal). He named them before he hit me. I know that what he showed me was real because I had experienced other Tai Chi artists do similar demonstrations of power to me. Clyman's was just more of the internal power.

Regardless of what you think about the man, please remember that the Tao gives rise to both pleasant and unpleasant personalities. I believe Gary Clyman is a good person. His approach and way of speaking may offend some sensibilities, but the guy knows what he is talking about. He is open to demonstrations, he has nothing to lose.

That is my peace. I am happy to be apart of the Tao Bum community.

Peace,

Shawn

Hello Shawn,

welcome to the taobums! :D

Thank you very much for writing here about your fascinating first-hand experience with Master Gary Clyman and his awesome internal power!

Gary's Mind Light Nei Kung is the most powerful and most direct way to create and store up internal power in your body! I agree to Gary's opinion that his system is the most powerful Nei Kung system on the planet! B)

Hi Shawn,

In Gary's techniques that he showed you, did he physically touch you with all of his techniques? Also, can you feel the flow of your internal energy?

Thanks, Jeff

Hi Shawn,

Why is Gary particularly worried about what (some of) the Tao Bums think of him & his Powers ?

From everything I've read he certainly has a great ability to control Internal Energies.

But the "problem", if there is one, seems to his attitude to anyone that dares to question him or his techniques.

He's seems a bit like Marmite, you either love him or hate him, but people usually cannot just ignore him.

I'll admit that I'm extremely interested in learning a bit more about him & his teaching methods.

But I won't worship or trash him because of someone else's views or judge somebody I haven't actually met in person.

To learn about the theory of Gary's Chi & Nei Kung system, you can simply read the first chapter of his "Nei Kung Bible" and his complete "Chi Kung Bible" online for free:

http://www.chikung.com/wp-content/files/chikungbible.pdf

or buy and read Waysun Liao's book "Taichi Classics" via amazon:

Gary's website is http://chikung.com

Just go to the source and study Waysun Liao

Hmm..maybe then you won't get what you really want:

To all,

I know Gary Clyman quite well. While his personality sets alot of people off he has some of the best martial tai chi I've ever seen. If you are in Chicago and want to see what real tai chi looks like go see Clyman. I never met anyone half as good while in living in Beijing.

BTW, Waysun Liao is no longer teaching the material he taught to Gary. As often happens as teachers age they find a new focus for their efforts. If you want to get the martial side of tai chi from Waysun's lineage you'll need to see Gary. Gary is very honest about what he is and is not capable of doing and I've never met anyone who doubted his skills who actually met him. Many people do not like Gary because of his personality. Too bad for them. I've often seen Gary repair the damage caused by other less concerned teachers and I've never seen him permanently hurt anyone either.

Out of a handful of teachers I've met who "had the goods" he is one of the most giving and certainly more concerned with his students' well being than most. He is quite intense. That is the reason why he is good at what he does. That said he is neither crazy or dangerous to the people around him. He just despises time wasters and chases them off.

I have met at least a dozen or more of Liaos's students including those who have been practicing for over 30 years. It looks like this to me:

20 years ago or more he was teaching good stuff. I haven't seen any students who have been with him for less than 10-15 years who have in significant skill. Some of the older guys are really good and really nice. I know the training is very different than it used to be, because the older guys told me so.

The newer students seem to be way way off in some fantasy land. The older ones seem to have some base in reality. I don't think Liao actually teaches any Taichi anymore. If he does, just barely. It's all student teaching.

I think anyone with a solid six months of Jiujitsu could take out virtually any of the students who have less than ten years of taichi practice under there belts.

Even the guys who have been with him for over 20 years still say he hasn't given them everything which is very interesting since Liao himself was in training for less than 10.

I have touched hands in a teaching environment with Liao about half a dozen times. He is really really good! And, yes soft like a willow. Truely amazing. Very powerful.

To Liao, from his mouth, as I understood him say it, the purpose of taichi is to purify and return to the Mother, the Dao itself. I believe that is true.

It is also a nice excuse for students who don't want to face reality. They can just pretend that their taichi is good because they are "returning to the Dao." When someone puts them on the ground or into the wall they can respond with "That was really physical," or "Taichi is not a martial art," or any other nonsense that will help them justify the fact that they don't have anything to show for their training. I feel really sad for them. Especially because Liao is so good.

So better learn from Clyman if you want the Nei Kung stuff!

But Waysun Liao's first book "Taichi Classics" is from the 70's and still contains the good Nei Kung stuff, therefore I recommend it!

To Jeff,

Yeah, Clyman did push me with his hands when he applied long power. And yes, I can feel and project, to varying degrees, internal energy.

I have not met Waysun Liao but often when teachers mature they look at different aspects of teaching than power and machismo, so maybe it does depend on what you want

Well, if someone wants Internal Power, then he needs the way and the knowledge that Waysun Liao taught in the 70's when Clyman learned from him and his instructors. Clyman is the only source left for that knowledge (besides Liao's book "Taichi Classics", which is not intended to learn practical but theoretical). Waysun Liao isn't teaching anymore anyways besides the guys on teacher level and besides one seminar a year as far as I'm informed. His Taichitao Center promotes and teaches now Tao Kung instead of Nei Kung:

http://thetaobums.com/topic/28273-new/?p=432289

The experience is such that I practiced Tao Kung about 14 years and just in a fortnight after starting Nei Kung my life changed dramatically. I would highly recommend jumping on The Nei Kung bandwagon , in other case you will just waste your time burying your head in a heap of 3rd grade of exported chinese Qigong stuff.

Please.visit www.chikung.com this is the fastest and safest route and your hard earned £££ will be saved at least.

This is pretty interesting, because in Taichi Classics Liao claims that creating, storing up and refining internal power is the very core of taichi. Neikung is simply the "inner work" in taichi to do just that. And even in his new books, he claims that having Jing (internal power) is the prerequisite to be able to do any spiritual / healing / feng shui work! So if that's true, why doesn't he teach anymore the Nei kung to get the Jing? Also, Jing enables you to project a strong signal outwarts and to be able to feel the power waves of the universe (Tao) and is therefore the base to communicate with Tao and therefore for getting results in Tao Kung. What's the point in teaching Tao Kung but not Nei Kung to get the Jing first?

Hi Shawn,

Thanks. Also, have you worked with any powerful energy healers in the past? I would be interested in the difference of the energy feel.

Thanks again, Jeff

To Jeff,

You got me there. I've never experienced powerful energy healing or met a real healer. However, I have experienced people trying empty force on me and inserting small amounts of internal energy. The empty force stuff feels like a wave gently pushing you. To be more precise, it feels like your own internal energy is pushing you backward as if your were unconsciously doing a tai chi "roll back" movement. The small amounts of internal energy just feel like a tingling or an electric buzzing.

I'd be interested in finding out the difference in Clyman's stuff and in the energy healing stuff, too. How about you? Have you experienced internal power within yourself and others?

Cheers,

Shawn

Howdy Shawn,

welcome to the site. I've trained with Gary as well and while you'll probably not experience a more huge ego in your life, the man does know his stuff- Jing. It is a little bit sad that he gives a crap about what a couple of internet 'critics' mention on the net. The weirdest thing about this guy is he gives out his stuff for free! Dorion posted it and on youtube

Do it and figure it out for yourself if he's doing it wrong. And if he is, then make a video and show him up.

Rich

Well Waysun Liao seems like the kind of guy who knows what he's doing, maybe some of your assumptions about the superiority of Nei Kung over Tao Kung are incorrect or there is a very good reason why he teaches that way now. Maybe teaching that sort of power too soon just goes straight to the ego and makes you into more of an ahole rather than liberate you to the Tao. I don't know, but I wouldn't judge the way Waysun Liao is teaching on the say of a couple of martial guys who already have their heads full of what Tai Chi should be about before they have mastered it.

Hi Shawn,

Yes, I have experienced various types of "energies" in my body and others. I have found four main different types (or frequency ranges). None of them really require physical contact, that is why I had asked my previous question. Also, I do not have a martial arts background. Do you? Could it have just been a very fast push?

Regards, Jeff
