Scarlet Imprint: Occult Literature

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever read any of Scarlet Imprints books on the occult. Just looking at the books they seem like some really hardcore core and radical shit, way beyond my current level of the understanding in this area. But at the same time some very deep and sincere works that are the result of actual practitioners. Anyone have experience with their books?

Here's a link to the podcast which I found the site from: http://occultofpersonality.net/scarlet-imprint/

Thanks for your insights.

One of the things i find interesting which they talk about in the podcast is they view each book as a "Talisman" and a magical work in and of itself....which i have found very true in my readings of any book coming from a real practitioner...they can be powerful forms of transmission, which is why they created the books so beautifully and ornately, but at the same time have cheaper versions for those who just want the info.

I love their work.

I have 'At the Crossroads' which is a compilation of articles by Grimiore magicians who made there way over into studying African Traditional Religions {ATR's} and how that effected their practice and perceptions of western magick.

~ Really worth buying, especially if you practice Evocation or plan to.

The ATRs have been practicing conjur magic in an uninterupted stream for 1000s of years. They have much Knowledge on the subject.

Here are 2 interviews with Scarlet Imprint authors: Jake Stratton-kent and Nicholag de Mattos. I enjoyed both of them a great deal. Both seem to be a balance of academic as well as occult/practical understanding, which I think is something that is not often found in this area of study. Enjoy :)

Hey Seth, had a question, all of these publishers like Scarlet, Hadean, and Nephilim seem like there really pushing the mysteries forward. I am wondering are the books still readable to some one like myself whom has very little experience with western esoteric jargon.....do you need to have a thick background to understand what they are talking about or are they more earthy books that anyone can read whom has just a little bit of knowledge?

Basically in what style are they written? Your opinion would be much appreciated in this.

The compilation books are highly readable and informative. Brilliant for new people and the rest.

Their Grimoire books {that I have seen} also tend to be good for anyone, but especially those who wish to practice...

And yes, I feel that those publishing houses are doing wonders for the Occult revival that is occurring at the moment. It's very exciting.

Real Magick, free of the banality of the teen witch/victorian prudery/ceremonial pompousness that fills 99.99% of books on the subject

I do my best to support them by buying what ever I can from them, and telling others about them :)

True Grimoire is great. I love J.S.K.        I don't have crossed keys yet but will very soon

I dont have these either but also will soon. But Conjur Codex is great, {I don't have the emerald edition yet} and so is 'At the crossroads'.

I dont have any of their stuff from what I can tell, but they have some nice looking editions...

I'm a sucker for biblioporn like that... Those sexy spines, textured pages... mmmm hrrrrhhrmmm... 3:)

Hehe, I have not read them yet. They are on my backlog of books to get round to reading.

In my skim through them they are certainly history but not in the way of 'this was printed then and then this happened and so on...'

Its more like a journey into the {sometimes pre Christian} world view of magical practitioners themselves, and their roles in society and the ways society was structured around them.

That seems important to me, as it helps strip much of the Christian and modern dross around practices like Necromancy, and helps one see the context that the practices we have we actually done in...

No, but I am considering getting this ... The True Grimoire ... it looks like an intelligent work on the subject .

Thanks for the link.

Do any of you guys read Patrick Harpur?

I have heard nothing but good things about Kent's works. What I think distinguishes these works from others is that many of the practitioners have very long and intensive experience in the field in which they write about....as well as the ability to write in a reputable and scholarly fashion.

Just listened to this new interview with Nicholas de Mattos on his book about Obeah Sorcery. The interview was a bit glitchy....but I still enjoyed it immensely, well worth listening to. :)

I would say that Kent is one of the best you can find for modern published works on such topics :). However also have to say that they are still books (Jake's research, other books and exprience), and not an in person teacher with a handed down lineage. Get in person teachings whenever you can!

I'm not nearly as impressed with Frisvold, as he added far too much extra stuff on.

I recommend the Peterson edition even more so :). Peterson translates a few different Verums and combines them into his book. It is purely Verum, whereas Kent uses a lot of Frisvold's stuff in his, which is a path unto itself. Then there is also that free Verum PDF (perfectly legal) floating around, which is still my favorite.

While you are at it, there is the Gran Grimoire, if you haven't read through that yet. The Trident edition sucks though, very poor translation. There is a good free edition of this floating around, which is by far the best one I have seen Just print it out and bind it if you don't enjoy PDFs ;).

Both of these books contain some good old stuff before the Christian magicians changed them too much, they are true classics!

It arrived today :) Only had a flick through so far.

Good company ... book produced nicely ... only the cheaper ones left, the expensive ones must be excellent quality.

Got here quick ( I thought ), sturdily packed and when I opened it nicely wrapped in tissue paper like a birthday present

.... black tissue paper :D ... house mate goes ; Ooooo spookey!

Wanted to say I just started reading Serpent Songs and I am deeply impressed by the work, nothing like anything I've read before. This is my 1st book from Scarlet Imprint and definitely not my last. :)
